Basketball Rutgers versus Michigan State at MSG -- Jan 25th

This is ridiculous.

For NET purposes, this will be called a home game, but it won't be played on our home floor (like the game in Feb 2023).

Last games vs MSU:
1/25/2025 - MSG
1/14/2024 - Breslin
2/4/2023 - MSG
1/19/2023 - Breslin
2/5/2022 - RAC
1/28/2021 - RAC
1/5/2021 - Breslin
12/8/2019 - Breslin
1/20/2019 - Breslin

It will be 4 years between MSU visits to Piscataway. Of our last 9 games, only 2 have been at the RAC and 5 and Breslin.
and 2021 was a covid year so no fans at the rac....so only 1 game at the rac with fans out of the last 9

Incredible and this is fair or good for RU how?

It's not fair. Life is generally not fair.

However, consider that the RAC is sold out for the season and even what single game tix remain are also apparently are being held back and not sold. There will be a significant amount of RU fans that want to see Ace and Dylan in Scarlet. If RU is playing any type of decent ball at all - this may just be a sellout at the Garden and packed mostly with RU fans. Showcase for the players and national media. Attractive to future recruits- and potentially an electric atmosphere with close to 20K screaming fans. While it may be unfair from a scheduling / NET standpoint - I'm very much looking forward to this event.

Hope it doesn’t cost us a win.
I hate giving up the home court advantage we have established.
I’ve seen RU fall one win short and not make the tourney.
I hate to see a loss effect our seeding in the B1G tourney.
I’ve seen NCAA change a neutral site game to a home game.
I’ve seen B1G refs make astronomically bad calls against RU.
I’ve seen RU beat Indiana and then Indiana gets a better seed and RU gets a more difficult play in game.
I’ve seen one of our better players get injured at the Garden which haunted us for two years.
It’s ridiculous that MSU manages to avoid the RAC/JMAC again.
Fans can also sell out The Pru against Princeton so there is a chance to see Ace and Dylan in Scarlet. That’s how it should be a neutral site against a non conference opponent.
Fear what bracketologists will say if we lose to Bama, Houston and God forbid MSU or ND on a neutral floor.
I’d much rather take my chances for a good win over MSU at the RAC.
Last year we were losing to MSU at the half. Last few MSU games at the RAC have been RU blow out wins.

No doubt it will be fun but at what price.
Hope it works out.

Pike in the past repeatedly indicated his displeasure at the MSG games.

Pike wanted this game and fought for it.

I'm honestly fine with a showcase game at MSG, even though I disagree with the NET decision that they will be counted as home games - not sure why it had to be MSU again, though.

We going to get a couple MSU away games at Little Ceaser's Arena and avoid Breslin for 4 years?

Of course Pike is saying that. I dont believe him

I’m sure he wants the exposure for them but the real question is why in a year where we are a high profile opponent that will draw - why couldn’t one of our road opponents take a turn at hosting us at a local high profile arena outside of their home court too?

All fine.

Do it with a NYC team as suggested previously.

MSG ——-> Yes, every year
B1G game there ——-> No

Fixed it for you

I mean he's getting this one from the program. To your point I don't listen to his opinions on players
well I dont think Pike is going to say anything but the company line here...at the same time somehow RU wasnt able to yet again get another non conference games in the nyc area against a big name opponent which should have been pretty easy to get

+1

Was hoping MSG would do something like the old Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadum.

Would be nice to be included in that one once in a while but we could/should be playing a local there almost every year IMO.

Its a trade off. RU got into the Big Ten for ONE primary reason: Geographic location and delivering the NYC Metropolitan media market.

The trade off is that RU has to play the occasional Big Ten home game in MSG rather than the RAC.

That's just what it is. Live with it and be happy we are in the Big Ten.

Would be interesting to read the terms and conditions of the basketball season ticket purchase.

Does it indicate all “regular season home games” or all “regular season home games on campus”?

Not to victim blame…..but……fans have made it known we’ll just pay a random amount as specified by the AD without actually knowing how many games they are getting.

Hard to blame the AD when the fans have allowed it for years.

You are kidding yourself. I would bet Pike told Dylan and Ace he would try to get them an MSG game if they came. MSG is a very hard venue to get, and you have to offer them something they are willing to host. MSG is not selling us. They do not need us. We are selling them.

First off - The MSU game in 2023 at MSG was a Rutgers home game that was given up
(although NCAA still considered it one)
The 2020 game at MSG vs Michigan, was a Michigan home game given up

Also - MSU has played at the Garden a LOT more than Rutgers over the past few years, so it’s like a home game for Izzo

The last 2 times MSU played at the RAC, it was a complete destruction, so RU does give up a big advantage..

If things work out, it will be a NY coming out party for Ace and Dylan
Imagine if they both go off on Mich st in front of 16,000
or so
It would be epic
Think big

Pleeease Rutgers or Court Club, run buses from The RAC. I hate mass transit, but very clean bus from The RAC is ok to deal with.

I like the idea of a conference game there and don't mind losing a game at the RAC. I do think it's a Sham that season tix holders get screwed out of a game they pay for and the computer metrics nonsense counts it as a home game

Lol I think this game was scheduled specifically to troll you.
Lol! Hope you are well. Thanks! ;-)

On one level I’m happy it wasn’t UCLA as I want to see UCLA at the RAC/JMAC.

Still wouldn’t give up B1G home games and ticked Garden gets Duke v Illinois. B1G should have campaigned (Champaigned. ;-)) for RU in light of the past screws.

I don’t mind a “home” game at MSG, but if it is considered a “home” game:

1. Rutgers should be given 16,500 out of the 18,000 seats, and MSU should be given 1,500 in the upper corner of the arena, just like it would be for a normal home game.

2. MSU should not be permitted to bring its pep band.

3. There should not be any “green” Spartan signs or indicia anywhere in the arena.

In other words, the arena cannot be set up like one of the neutral site tournament games but then merely labeled a Rutgers home game. If the NCAA is going to consider this a Rutgers home game for NET purposes, then the arena must be handled like a RUTGERS venue. Period.

When Michigan gave up a home game to play RU at MSG, they were the home team as far as band and the primary screen. It matters little who are "given" the tickets. The market rules. Maybe Michigan was given the tickets but RU controlled MSG that day. Against Mich State, a RU home game, we controlled the arena based on the attendance. We will dominate the attendance again in this 2025 game.

But MSU had a good amount of prime seats at half court. We were upstairs in our own home court.
