Sunday begins the start of B1G season. Time to make some predictions vs a tough Gophers team that on paper could be a very close dual. If Colucci can avoid a tech or pin to Gable, RU might be able to pull the upset. Here we go:

125 Metzler Loss, MN 3-0
133 Suriano Win over Lizak, Tied 3-3
141 Lipari Loss, MN 6-3
149 Ash Major Win over Thorn, circled this match for years, RU 7-6
157 JVB Loss, MN 9-7
165 Glasgow Loss, MN 12-7
174 Scott Win, MN 12-10
184 Gravina Major Win, RU 14-12
197 Correnti Win, RU 17-12
HVY Colucci Tech Loss, Match Tied 17-17

Criteria gives RU the win, 18-17. Dual will come down to Colucci IMO. Anything less than a tech or pin vs Gable is an unmitigated success and RU wins the dual IMO.

Going to be tuff for Metzler not to get bonused. JVB is a swing match, I think he can beat Bleise.

Criteria in college almost always comes down to criteria C...total match points. Usually tuff to win that if we give up a tech. We will be underdogs, but should be very good dual.

Way to get the discussion started Matt.

Solid predictions. I could see McKee getting bonus points, but hopefully not. Glasgow appears to still be up in the air at the moment so who knows what will happen @ 165.

Glasgow won’t be wrestling this week ...who knows who we throw in at 165

Ouch....would not surprise me if Benner weighed in at 157 and is thrown to the wolves at 165, or if Olivieri can make 165.....either way probably giving up bonus.

IF Glasgow not wrestling, why not bump up JVB to 165

Seems like Glasgow had been injured for almost 2 full years. At this point some weight shuffling , depending on certifications and rules, might be necessary if winning dual matches mean anything .

IF Glasgow not wrestling, why not bump up JVB to 165

Because it is a bad move for JVB. He needs to beat Bleise for seeding, criteria etc. And he would have to weigh in too light to wrestle 165.

Not to mention, we really do not have anyone ready to go 157....Benner is not ready to wrestle Bliese at 157

the match is key for B10 seeding.
RU needs to pull an upset ro two to help seeding
It is about qualifying for the Big Dance...

No Bumping allowed (IMO)

Didn't you say once a wrestler goes he can't bump up or down for 4 weeks? That was good info, that I'm sure most of us didn't know.
PS- Harley , aka Mrs. Van Brill , might not like that idea,: -)

they are only allowed to cut a certain amount of weight per week.
That is why if they weigh in at 165, it may take time to get back under 157 per rules

Yes, Abro, college is different than HS. In college you can only lose 1.5% of your weight per week. So if he weighed in at 164, it would take 3-4 weeks before he could make 157, so he would have to weigh in at about 159 to be able to go 157 the following week against Wisc and Ok State.
That is a lot to ask to weigh in at 159 and wrestle up at 165. Just stinks the Glasgow injuries.

If JVB beats Bleise, I could see Goodale forfeiting at 165, banking on wins at 174, 184 and 197 provided Ash and Suriano TCB vs Thorn and Lizak.

Sunday begins the start of B

125 Metzler Loss, 0-4
133 Suriano Win over Lizak, 3-4
141 Lipari Loss, 3-7
149 Ash Major Win over Thorn, 7-7
157 JVB win 10-7
165 RU Loss, 10-12
174 Scott Loss 10-15
184 Gravina Win, RU 13-15
197 Correnti Loss, RU 13-18
HVY Colucci Major Loss, 13-22

Final: Minn 22-13

On paper we should get beat even worse. Utah Valley just got crushed by Minn 36-6. Plus the match is at Minn. I just hope everyone wrestles aggressively and we pull an upset or two. I want us to win but care more that we wrestle hard.

I'm in section 113 this year, but forgot the actual seat number, since we are new to 113. But I'll let you know. Look forward to meeting you, even though I don't know who the heck you really are. If you really the mom of a wrestler, please bring your husband, I wouldn't want my wife to be concerned, lol. I have more predictions too, you might enjoy them. Some will work out, others won't . That's the nature of the prediction game. Minn and Wisc we will split , with both being narrow margins. I'm curious, which of my predictions saddened you the most, and which made you the happiest? Whether my predictions make you happy or sad I am glad you pay attention to them. In journalism, I've read that 'lists' and 'predictions' garner the most clicks . Longer Op Eds not as many, except for the NY Times and Washington Post.

My biggest prediction is ….. RU will have 2 National Champs, and 3 All Americans this year, but will narrowly fall out of the top 10 again.

Other predictions:

Princeton - RU wins by 10 points
Nebraska- close loss
Iowa- loss by about 20, probably only win 3 of the 10 bouts
Indiana- win
Purdue- win
Ok St- loss by about 15,
Michigan - loss by about 15
Maryland - easy win

Last match I actually sat in floor seats ...section is usually 112 every other match ...if you really don’t know who I am then leave the VanBrills out of it ..it was ridiculous the first time it was said and now you perpetrate the same ridiculous theory lol...I’ve been called a troll , been called a woman and all I am is a fan who gives my opinion about weight switches and as in last year the RL fiasco that effected the whole team ..I believe in wrestleoffs and feel if a kid wins then it’s his spot to choose ..now we have some tough decisions because of tourney results etc so I believe coaches are the ones to make those decisions ...I’ve never knocked the coaches like some of you repeatedly have ..I know how this program has grown and the current coaches are the reason why ...I will repeat my one prediction tho ..Glasgow won’t wrestle this week ...too soon ...

I won't allude to the wrestler's family anymore, since you have so vociferously denied it, I'll respect your and the wrestler's familys right to privacy. The poster who accidently mentioned it is well respected here, but now I think he made an honest mistake, and since I respect him and the wrestlers so much, that's the end of it.
I think I now remember the prediction I made that upset you, and others- Utah Valley, right ? lol. yep, that was a bad one, they are much better than I thought. I honestly don't even remember what other predictions I made, since I post so much , on so many topics, in so many places.
But I have a lot of time on my hands now that I'm recently retired. So I indulge myself. I hope some of my postings are informative, others entertaining. I try to minimize my 'provocative posts, lol.

I suggest the two of you settle this once and for all at the proper time and place (during the break at the next home match). Three 1 minute periods. Billy G. as the guest referee. Crowd will be in a frenzy. See you there. $$$$

I’m game ..I wrestled back in 70s and still have some moves ..

I wrestled intramurals in the 70s, at Hackettstown HS, all the non wrestling team boys had to wrestle in gym, each class , fresh, soph, jr and senior class had to wrestle down to 1 champ in each weight class. My junior year I won my class , whatever the weight was then in the 170s. And if memory serves it was also 3 one minute periods, although everyone got gassed anyway.
So on a Saturday night, in front of a packed gym, the Freshman class champs wrestled the soph class champs , and the Jr class champs wrestled the senior class. Packed house, lol. I thought I was decent, even though at that time I knew little about wrestling, just having moved from Brooklyn, but I was a decent athlete in football and baseball. And I won my junior class , beating 3 or 4 other guys.
But come that big night in front of a packed house, I got pinned in the first period, and was so embarrassed I went right home after showering.lol.

Anyway, no singlet for me, lol, I prefer those new 2 piece gym shorts and T shirts, lol. And I can't make even 197 anymore. Probably not 220 either, lol.

Heck with settling this with Folk Style rules,.
I suggest a good old fashioned Sumo Wrestling bout (Complete with those Sumo Suits)

I'll sign up for those dual predictions in a heartbeat if we split Minnesota/Wisconsin. That would mean we go 5-4 in B1G and continue our dominance over Princeton.

Won’t fit in my Glassboro singlet and wrestled 98-123-130-130 for those 4 years ..lost district final and back then only winner went to regions so never got a sniff of boardwalk hall ..I can make 197 if needed ..just not eat for 3 days ...I’ll be ready if you are lol

157 JVB Loss, MN 9-7
165 Glasgow Loss, MN 12-7
174 Scott Win, MN 12-10
184 Gravina Major Win, RU 14-12
197 Correnti Win, RU 17-12
HVY Colucci Tech Loss, Match Tied 17-17

Criteria gives RU the win, 18-17. Dual will come down to Colucci IMO. Anything less than a tech or pin vs Gable is an unmitigated success and RU wins the dual IMO.

There is a reason Ashnault lost to Thorn a few years ago. He's that body type that gives him fits. Ash is on a different level this year so I clearly expect him to get his revenge, but I wouldn't bank on a major. Forget his name, but I know Ash had some trouble with the kid from Nebraska this year who has a lanky build and while Thorn is struggling this season, he's a better wrestler than that kid.

Gravina is not a bonus point machine in terms of points and given his rusty wrestling, I wouldn't bank on bonus from him either.

Ah, yes. Feel free to call me Mr. Duh!

It sounds crazy, but I like Ashnaults chances better given how crazy 133 is this year. Take away that 3rd period meltdown where he let Jordan back into the match, he will show where he stands vs. Kolodzik in February. While he has history with the Princeton standout including a heart breaking home loss a few years back, he handled him in his last meeting at nationals and Ashnault is wrestling at a much higher level than 2 years ago. Looks stronger and less fearful to "go after it".

You're probably right. His task at 149 will be a little "easier" than will be Suriano's at 133.

His muscle strength has been noticeable on his return. He is pinning guys and is reminiscent of Zain in some ways. I feel this year is his year over NS but would love for both to get it. When he got up on Jordan his foot came off the pedal so I don't think it's conditioning. Excited to see him against Thorn and I'm sure AA doesn't forget the match years ago where Thorn took it to him.

Skatzka is no easy out but if Scott manages to pull out a win it will show that he is a legitimate contender and should be given the spot till proven otherwise. Grello is healing in the interim

Jersey can you do me a solid, buddy? Don't call Ashnault, Ash, it conjures up all types of bad memories. I'm trying to forget the football season even happened right now and wrestling helps to sooth the pain.:)
