Rutgers vs Stony Brook preview

Damm poor shooting.
This team needs to take control early and make shots.
Very disappointing , but early enopugh in season to overcome a bad game like this with the proper ajustments.

now for the usual suspects who usually only show up to complain.
Your caring about the program would be more believable if you showed up opn this board top congratulate the team when it wins and you could even give constructive criticism on the play after the game.if you really cared about the RU WBB program
But that's not your MO and you seem to enjoy when things go wrong fare more than when things go the teams way.
Enough already been following this team for over 40 years and I am just stating reality; I have had the same criticism for the mens program many times; With the right hire which Hobbs made they have righted the ship and with the right hire the women's program can be revived but its going to take time because there is going to be nothing left here next year and the new coach will be building from ground zero; luckily in bball you can build it quicker as you only need a few great recruits and of course the proper coaching

There is a huge difference between a super-short rotation of 6 and playing 14 in the first half. That is insanity. Cut it to 10 max unless it is a blowout and you are clearing the bench.

Madhat, if our coaching staff does not turn this season around, I fear we are headed for a multi-year stay in the cellar if there is no coaching change. CVS is a highly-paid consultant if she is not attending practices. I don't think you can build relationships and form a team out of newcomers (which is practically what we are right now) over a Zoom call. It is up to the coaches who are in the trenches daily to right this ship. I would love to see them do it.

Not impressed with Coach Eatman. Please don’t let him be CVS’s successor. He has no idea what he’s doing.

I agree and not claiming recruiting won't be much harder because of the coaching situation.
But wins make that go away and the CVS -Tim relationship will be looked at as a stable one with a good season with Eatman as HC and CVS' possible return or not.
Winning usually cures the confusion that RU has now about the state of RU WBB program

A bad season this year, like you said, can be something that destroys the future, unless drastic changes are made and RU goesafter a very respected coach and one that relates wellk to the high school players and their coaches..
As far as I'm concerned, Tim and CVS bear responsibility for this season good/bad and if one deserves to stay because of a good season, both deserve to be back.
In Tim's case deserves to be hired as a HC at another program if Stringer decides to come back or be given a 4-5 year contract if RU does great and Vivian told to move into administration.

If team sucks this year, Tim is gone and CVS told administration is only position available because of the need for stability and recruits to feel the HC that brings them in will be there for their whole career at RU.

I'll defend Stringer from the hateful posters, but do understand that even with a leave of absence this season, the way team plays and W-L record needs to be tied to her and not have Tim take all the heat for a bad season.
I'm really torn about what should be done if Tim does a great job regular season and makes a excellent NCAA run, but feel if that's the case Vivian needs to step aside and become Coach Emeritus .
If that sounds cold seeing how Vivian has been HC for so many years and the face of RU's WBB program it is.

I understand the reason for her leave of absence and agree she has a right to do that, but her contract states that she could move to an administration position and , to me, that should give Hobbs enough leeway to reward Tim for the year he had and move CVS out gracefully.
Vivian if she accepted administration position this year could have worked remotely as an administrator , staying out of the coaching end and come back next yea if Tim didn't do well.

By staying away , fully, Vivian tied her future to how the team does this season and god or bad her future as RU's HC is tied to how the team playes this season and if TRim does well enopugh to get a HC job at another program or returns as her assistant along with being designated successor, or does so great that he proves he should be given the job outright forcing CVS to administration for he good of program

bad season he'll be gone.
Good one he'll be looked on as a good successor for Stringer.

I was at the game and it was very frustrating to witness. It seemed that Coach Eatman was more interested in the players learning the offense instead of winning the game. When we were behind late in the game he continued to use the entire shot clock instead of letting the players take the first open shot. I believe he is trying to run a complicated motion offense. Maybe we could run something simpler at the beginning of the season and let talent carry some of the load. I know we have talent of the floor with some very good shooters. Our defensive effort is on par with teams of the past. I will give us that. Just sharing some thoughts to bring my blood pressure down!

I don't pretend to be a basketball coach, but the team seems more concerned with running a play than with finding an open shot. They are often open but never look to the rim. I wish I know what the plays are supposed to look like. As I heard from someone on the radio when I got back in the car, they are forgetting to play "basket"ball. It is very frustrating and the players look frustrated too. I really want to be supportive but it is hard to not say "shoot the ball!!!!"

Coach Eatman has no clue what he is doing how do your two tallest girls play a total of 12 minutes when the other team has no height; Sakima and Chyna I am sure will transfer out of here and you are going to be left with no one next year;
As for the girls learning the offense what offense is actually being run because I didn't see any offense; I bet half of our baskets were just shots chucked up as the clock was expiring and the girls had to shoot

Langford inherited an NCAA-appearance team, but she seems to have Stony Brook clicking herself, also. Pre-game, all the buzz was about her high-scoring squad; but that was a well-coached defense I saw too. Their switching was crisp!

And they handled the 55 as well or better than any team I've seen. IMO, that shows outstanding game-prep-effort for playing RU.

She might be a young talent that we should be watching. (We didn't do badly poaching from Stony Brook last time!)

Too early for this. Her first head coaching position. Was Associate Head Coach at James Madison, but I suspect that was after Kenny Brooks moved on, but I could be wrong.

I don't object to an up and coming young coach, but I think to be successful they need some major conference experience.

I’m looking at either Chelsea Newton or Tammi Reiss(head coach at URI).

Because people criticize or voice an opinion about the actions of Rutgers , a coaching staff , it’s administration , and yes , players themselves , does not automatically fit the word “ HATE” . There are those on this board , much more intune with the WBB program however don’t conflate criticisms with HATE . That word it seems has been elevated for the past 25-30 years by those who claim they will defend the team. Believe this for certain. They don’t care about your defending them.Only that you show up in the seats. After listening to Tim and watching Tim it appears needs to do a much better job getting the 6-7 newbies to play together as a unit. Remember these women came aboard to play for CVivian Stringer not Tim. We all will know within the New Year where it is all going.

Bob there are some who come on this board that for years have put down CVS and the RU WBB team unmercifully , many times without just cause, except in thir minds.
All criticism is not hate, but some have proven over time that they come on this board only to bash and seldom come on when praise is deserved..

So far this season, even the long term bashers have a valid reason to be disgusted and post that way.

get a broom and clean house, this is overdo
season ends on bad note,I agree.
Tim turns it around and team earns NCAA bid, house will be in order and no clean up necessary.

As of now: mop, pail , broom and dust bin should be ready to use.
If program turns it around, back to the closet for those things

Agreed. If the change didn't occur prior to the season or earlier there is little that can be done now. Ride this season out with Tim and see what it brings. Also be ready with a new staff because, this a young man's/woman's game, and there is a reason Tim has been a career assistant.

at one time I would have disagreed about career assistant being ready for top spot and their experience matters. All they need is a little time to settle in as the HC.
But the way Freddie failed as the RU MBB HC and me being wrong defending his hire and early results, won't do the same with Tim. Even if he has HC experience, because he has been an assistant for so long after being a HC.
It took me too long to realize most career assistants are that because they're not prime time players but great helpers.

But Tim is not a career assistant he had 2 runs ( long ago )as the HC
( most below was copied and pasted from link below it)

Eatman has had prior head coaching experience at University of Illinois at Chicago and his alma mater, Talladega College
He began his coaching career as the head women’s coach at Talladega College,Eatman guided the Tornadoes to a 20-9 ledger in 1989-90.
Eatman also was at the helm of the Illinois-Chicago program ( 1998 to 2002). During his four seasons with the Flames, he brought in two top 20 recruiting classes and recorded the program’s highest win total in seven seasons.

Agreed from what I know about Tim, met him twice, is he is a good guy and father. Just not the right person to be the face of the program.
