The start time doesn't really favor anyone. Going to the west coast is never easy, nor is playing on the road against a pretty good team such as Washington.

I think Rutgers starts out pretty well but ultimately the opponent and adjusting to coaching changes play a factor. 34-10 Washington with the game being closer than the score indicates (think UW scoring 14 in the last 10 minutes).

Rutgers definitely has the chance to be much better this year but if they are I highly doubt it's going to be shown that much week 1 @ Washington. It'd be hard to show it that much at home vs. anyone even just given the changes. Give em a couple weeks and I'm sure they'll be playing good ball.
Washington has a home & away with Michigan in 2020 and 2021.

For now. We have a home and away with Virginia Tech those same seasons. Either that series or the Washington series will be dropped if the Notre Dame series is extended until then like I'm sure Michigan and Notre Dame will try to do.

I sure hope Michigan doesn't drop the Washington series. That series brings back memories of the Don James days when those two teams met up in multiple Rose Bowls during his time and Bo Schembechler. That and rescheduling on short notice is a b1tch.

Well then hopefully your AD has a set and declines a buyout.

Coming off an incredible 7-6 campaign and an unbelievable win against a Conference USA team in their bowl, the Washington Huskies are the darlings of the Pacific Northwest. They get to read every day the press clippings on how great they are, how they will win their division and play for the Rose Bowl. And now I just saw College Sports Radio ranked them #14 coming into the season, another bunch of experts in awe of those Huskies, they can pump their chests and just roll through the season now.

They start off with their little tuneup game in which they can read every day this summer how they are a 21 point favorite and can rest their starters by the middle of the third quarter, then bounce through the heart of their schedule.

But I just looked at that schedule, and it turns out that they don't play one of those FCS sisters of the poor teams that day. In fact they aren't even playing a MAC or Sun Belt level team. No no no when they look across the field on game day the patches on the opposing uniforms say Big Ten on them.

Oh I know they got all summer to prepare for lowly Rutgers. Yeah, and tell me have you seen the game film of a Chris Ash run offense. What about defense in which Chis Ash was the head coach. Yeah you may think you have some idea but I bet Ash will throw out stuff you have never seen.

Oh but Rutgers isn't really a Big Ten team. They are practically still Group of Five level right? Yeah I heard that one before, a couple of years ago when lowly Rutgers had to travel all the way across the country to the great state of Washington and play Wazzu. How did that turn out.

So read those press clippings. Watch all the college shows as they admire your greatness. We'll be waiting.

RU 27
Washington 17
I highly doubt coach Chris Petersen is going to allow his players to overlook Rutgers. If there's one guy that can keep it real and keep his players head's straight, it's him.

I think you're wrong and this is why I'm betting against the spread for this game: this will be the first game of the season for both teams which means the defenses will have the edge. Washington was slow out of the gate last season and although they won't be as bad in the early season as they were last year I think Rutgers has one advantage in the scouting report dept. seeing how Rutgers has an entirely new coaching staff ... new offense, new defense. That means no game film for Washington to study.
Dawg, please come around more often! You raise the football IQ of this board, just by posting. Thank you, very refreshing.

I would be extremely shocked if we can pull out the monster upset.

That being said, I would like to see us at least keep it a little close for most of the game even if they pull away in the 4th.

Agreed. Solid poster.

As much as I'd like to say otherwise, I think the chances of Rutgers leaving Seattle with a win are very slim (although that prediction might change depending on who our QB is and how he performs once practice starts up again). It will definitely be an interesting game though with all of the factors at play -- first game of the year, west coast travel, new coaches and entirely new system for Rutgers with no game tape for Washington to study.

If you lived out here you would know. Very heated rivalry with most Husky fans looking down on the "lowly" Cougs,

Yeah, I saw it firsthand at my daughters softball league this spring between the UW and WSU parents....not necessarily heated at those venues but intense. One thing that impresses me is the most;y very positive coverage that UW gets from the Seattle Times.

Washington gets all the press compared to Washington St. due to location. WSU is located in the middle of nowhere ... and I mean nowhere hence the reason they have such a difficult time getting top of the line recruits and keeping coaches. TBH I have more in common with the WSU fanbase then the present Washington fanbase. Mostly due to the change in demographics in the Seattle area over the past three decades. Seattle has been overrun by California transplants in the tech industry .. RE Microsoft. The crowds at the Washington games these days are more into taking selfies, texting, and drinking white wine. It sucks anymore.

I think I'll come back to this thread at the end of August when we know who our starting QB will be, and how the team is looking and update on injuries. Plus how our new kicker and punter are doing.
Were as much in the dark as Alaska Dawg at this point as to what to expect this early in the Ash regime from the team....I hope the results are as pleasant as early recruiting..

The UW/WSU relationship is very similar to the Uva/Va Tech relationship, as well as the Michigan/Michigan St. relationship.

Vegas now has the line for this game at 24 and some of the more ignorant Washington posters are talking mass sh1t atm. I really hope this game comes down to the wire just to give some of the asshats a reality check.

24 is a lot of points. I don't bet on Rutgers games, but this one is begging for it. I am thinking UW will control this game, but not sure I see a massive score differential.

I expect our D to be sound, if not slightly undermanned in the d backfield and lb spots. This will allow UW to score. I also don't think we are going to put up a lot of points. But, Ash will have them playing solid ball, not beating themselves.

Early prediction- 28-13

Sorry Dawg we got nothing for you to look at. Last year was a mess not worth looking at so I put this. We won't look anything like this, this year, and sadly we lost this game somehow.

Rutgers defense looked to be teeing off big time on Hackenberg. Washington gave up 33 sacks last season so if Rutgers can rush the QB like they did in that vid they have a decent chance vs the Huskies.

Dawg you playing Possum ?
You do raise a valid concern that Coach Petersen should have.
With Rutgers top D Lineman Hamilton ( best by far) returning after a year off and a possible healthy return of DE Turay coming off the edge, the Pass Rush should be a new weapon for RU in '16.

??????? When did RU play Washington??
For the record: beat George Washington, beat and tied Washinton + Lee and lost to Washington + Jefferson twice. (Once after winning by a shutout and playing them 2 days later) maybe it was exam time. This is something like the 100th anniversary of one of those games. Who remembers that ?

Washington returns four starting OL from last season and they should be improved but its difficult to say how much they will improve from last season. 33 sacks is a shitload .. in fact it was the worst in the PAC last season.

Yeah....my wife drove through Eastern Washington years ago and said Pullman was really in the middle of nowhere. Makes sense that when Rutgers travelled out the game was in Seattle to try and get some away fans in for ease of travel? I'm sure we'll make our way there one day on the way to Montana or something....I think Rutgers to State College is closer than Seattle to Pullman.

Definitely a lot of tech people in this area.....I work in pharma/biotech and am a novelty here though we were a dime a dozen in NJ. swing a stick here and you'll hit someone from Microsoft/Amazon/Google/Expedia, etc. We live in the Eastside though so a little removed from the Seattle progressiveness.

I did my basic training in New Jersey years ago at Ft. Dix ('82) and I never saw a venomous snake in my life until then. Watermoccisons and cottonmouths along with some insect that looks like a giant grasshopper that has a big ol shell on it. One landed on my shoulder when I was in formation and it scared the hell out me as did the lightening storms back there.

Also, isn't there current concerns on Injuries of the OL of Washington ?
Not so sure all 4 returning OL starters will healthy come Sept 3rd.

It's going to be hard to gauge Husky's returning players after a full year of experimenting with legalized weed, that is the X factor no one is talking about.
