Smart move by him to get away from that O line
Could never figure out why Hack and Connor Cook have been rated so high for draft ( I know Hack has dropped somewhat). Never see either of these guys have good games and it's always a ton excuses. Both like robots who don't see the pass rush.
O'Brien was an awesome coach for him. Franklin did not utilize him the right way as his offensive style did not truly mesh with Hack's abilitiesHackenburg was great his freshman year. Franklin absolutely ruined him.
Unfortunately next year I don't think it matters, their line backing unit will make them a top 10 defense again... Year after though we can get them

I agree QBing in NFL sucks but I also think OL's are as watered down as QBs and a good NFL QB better be able to play well when getting rushed because s high pick will most likely have a crap OL. Like the QB from Memphis - looks like young Big Ben the way he evades rush and makes big plays.Yeah but the NFL is starving for pocket QB's so if they have the physical tools teams will take shots on them and try and develop them into quality NFL starters. There's just not enough quality QB's out there that can play the pro game at a high level. League has become terribly watered down at the QB position. Actually, the level of play overall in the league has dropped. Amazing how their product will never hurt by though. The TV contract money, fantasy sports, gambling, licensed team gear, etc. It's almost like they are saying "lets see how crappy we can make our product while still increasing our revenue". It's become that easy for them.
Just declared for the NFL draftAny word on Austin Johnson? Will not miss going up against him if he declares.

It's his own fault he had the opportunity to leave
Hackenburg was great his freshman year. Franklin absolutely ruined him.
He just declared and hope the Giants pick him up. We need a disruptive force in the middle of the lineHope Johnson goes, they lose some good players on Defense.
Entire post game press conference was transcribed and he starts off by thanking Coach OBrien and former OC John Donovan, who was just fired at the end of regular season....On other hand, Hackenburg does not mention or thank Coach Franklin at all or once in the post game press conference (I only read what was written, so if this is accurate, it says a lot).....but it tells you all you need to know about where Hackenburg's mind has been for a long time. Also places an inordinate amount of pressure on Franklin to produce next year, because the results from Hack have been underwhelming (regardless of the excuses with the offensive line) and the backup actually looked better running whatever offense they are trying to run there.
Hackenburg better produce at the next level or he will come off looking like a somewhat entitled 4* recruit that didn't play as well, once OBrien left. Maybe OBrien drafts him for the Texans, but PSU as a program has to look at the last 2 years as disappointing. Austin Johnson, the DT also declared for the NFL draft after the game as well, he's a player that looks like he'll have a long NFL career.

They lose 1 DE, both DT, 1 safety and 1 CB. Defense takes a big hit. We lost our starting QB this year, how good was that? Their OL stays with 1 OT Leaving. So they lose Zettel, Nassib AND Johnson. Three very productive, veteran DL. I think Penn State's offense will be better next year but they appear to be losing A LOT on defense.
+1. He even thanked the video guy and a "communications specialty", but no mention of Franklin.Wow! That statement says it all.
I just read Hackenberg's statement....that is too funny!!+1. He even thanked the video guy and a "communications specialty", but no mention of Franklin.
I feel like Cook looked better than he is because his receivers bailed him out. A ton of those third down ball against us were overthrown and Cook's WRs bailed him out by snagging them.Saw Hackenberg make any and every throw possible against Wisconsin during his freshman year. And Cook made any critical third down throw against us this year. Two of the best single game performances I've seen in the past couple of years. These guys have great arms, decent mechanics and are leaders. Think they both have good opportunities to make NFL rosters and develop into good QBs.
IMO, Hackenberg will never make in the NFL. He may have certain "measurables," but his mobility is limited, his accuracy is mediocre and his ability to read defenses seems weak.
Franklin didn't ruin Hack, the kid had no protection. Funny thing is I think State Penn will be better without Hack. Franklin system works with a mobile QB, which he will have next year.Hackenburg was great his freshman year. Franklin absolutely ruined him.
McSorley seemed to provide a spark and looked pretty good. Saw that happen in another game too.Franklin didn't ruin Hack, the kid had no protection. Funny thing is I think State Penn will be better without Hack. Franklin system works with a mobile QB, which he will have next year.
