A long long time ago
I can still remember how RU football
Used to make me smile
And I knew that if I had my choice
The Big Ten could make those fans rejoice
And maybe they’d be happy for a while

But every season made me sadder
And every poster made me madder
Bad news on my lap top
I couldn‘t take one more flop
I can’t remember if I screamed
When I heard that Ash would lead this team
Something touched me deep inside
The day RU football died

So bye bye dear old Scarlet Knight Pride
Went that-a-way to Piscataway
But the crowd they all cried
And them good Loyal Sons were drinking till they were numb
Singing “This will be the day RU died
This will be the day RU died”

Now for eight years we’ve been in the B1G
Not knowing what kinda hole we’d dig
But that’s not how it used to be
The teams that Frank led at the helm
Their opponents they did overwhelm
And shouts of joy came from you and me

And while the coach was doing fine
Big Ed said “Let’s go bigger time”
And in came Joe Pa’s Nitts
And gave us big time fits
And while we scheduled bigger games
The players recruited stayed the same
Do you recall who was to blame
The day RU football died

So bye bye dear old Scarlet Knight Pride
Went that-a-way to Piscataway
But the crowd they all cried
And them good Loyal Sons were drinking till they were numb
Singing “This will be the day RU died

Helter skelter the fate we were dealt sir
No funds were there for a practice shelter
Losing games and falling fast
Landing on artificial grass
Our QBs could not throw a pass
While our best were sidelined en masse

Now at halftime there were no adjusts
As the team still lost though tried they must
Coaches were hired and fired
But they never gave the results desired
Cause the players tried to take the field
To win but opponents refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day RU football died

So bye bye dear old Scarlet Knight Pride
Went that-a-way to Piscataway
But the crowd they all cried

And there we were in the Big East
A generation ready to feast
With no place else to play again
And so with coaches mostly bad
We then turned to a Jersey lad
And hoped he lead us to the promised land

And as we watched him on the bench
We sometimes yelled with fists all clenched
As he stumbled out of hell
To break our losing spell
And as our wins climbed high into the Knight
Greg tried to show our path was right
We saw ESPN laughing with delight
The day RU football died

They were singing . . . .

Greg met a team down on their luck
And we begged him to ignore the Bucks
But he just smiled and turned away
By leaving late he drew first blood
But in his wake we got a Flood
But the man we hired needed to be sent away

And in the streets the fans all screamed
For the success of Ash we all dreamed
But harsh words all were spoken
The program he had broken
And the players we all wanted most
The ones for which we all could boast
Are all now playing on the coast
The day RU football died
