Schiano spoke well and was inspired but all he spoke about was the football team. I think he should of at least said the basketball team was playing well and that success for all of our teams should help our entire athletic program. This was a basketball game and our kids were playing outstanding and playing their hearts out and he never even mentioned the team or any of our other athletic teams. I think that was wrong. I sure hope things aren't always all about football going forward as that would bother me.

Hear what you are saying.

At the same time, football is not the same as hoops, as there are 9 Division one basketball programs in New Jersey and one in football.

Unifying the state is a big objective for him ...and that means making those schools fans who play division one hoops ...including the hall, get behind the state university in New Jersey football program

We know is behind everything this school does ...and this is the same guy who was in the stands visibly for many Rutgers basketball games, including our NIt champ game and the NCAA women’s champ game

He was enjoying himself cheering and clapping during the first half. I'm not upset he didn't stay for the conclusion.

I get he was trying to "unite the state" with the speech, but a "Now let's go beat Seton Hall" wouldn't have hurt. In my section there were enough blue shirts to be noticeable and a few of them were trying to boo during the entire speech and one guy made his way down to the landing just to continue to give him thumb's down during the speech.

He sat with the recruits for the entire second half. He was on his phone the whole time, but he was there.

He should have mentioned to basketball team. His job was to get the crowd going. Talk about football great. But if he could have said some inspiring things about the b-ball team it would have made the crowd go a little crazier and get them back into after half. Not saying they weren’t loud enough but it would have been a nice touch... Didn’t have to but it would have been nice. This is the difference between pikiell and Schiano

Geez, can’t you find something else to nitpick after the best Rutgers sports day in, oh I don’t know, ten years?

And, yes, there’s a big difference between Pikiell and Schiano. Pikiell sucks up to an athletic director who loves basketball. Schiano has to work for an AD who doesn’t have a clue about the role of football in every other Big 10 university.

This is the type of drivel one hears from a “ Rutgers” free board.Schiano talked about the Great State of New Jersey and needing everyone’s help and support . He didn’t mention football specifically but his plea was fair and everyone there at the RAC knew the speech was going to be geared towards our lowly football team. Let’s admit basketball appears to be making progress in Pikiell’s year 4 and Schiano needs to get football back and he will. The problem at Rutgers is fans and alums seem to get hurt feelings too easily...RUTGERS ALL IN ... the man can motivate.

My 3 favorite sports teams in this order are:
- Rutgers Football
- Mets baseball
- Rutgers men's basketball

So I admit I have more of an emotional investment in the football team. But I do have season tickets to both and live and die with hoops. I would like to see more of you "hoops first" guys doing the same.

Don’t think it’s a huge deal, but I certainly noticed that there was no reference to basketball, the game, SHU. Flip the script and put Pikes at a major football event and guaranteed he devotes at least a few seconds acknowledging the event and football team.

He could have but he didn't. Would have been nice but in the grand scheme of the day and the moment...he was focused on his message.....its ok fellas. (and I know 1212 gets that and wasn't bitching)

Completely disagree.

Coaches from different sports should support each other. Still remember years ago when Bruce Pearl was in trouble at Tennessee for pending violations. At halftime, I think, of the men's game, Pat Summit came out on some conveyance--can't remember what--wearing a cheerleaders uniform along with the real cheerleaders to show support for him. Memorable.

Seton Hall is located within the State of Rutgers Football too.
Have to admit, this is something I didn’t consider. I too was thinking he should have mentioned our basketball team, so this softens my stance a bit.

Maybe if he started off by saying, “I’d like to thank coach Pikiell and the team, and everyone who came out today for this awesome in-state rivalry game. And this state, the incredible state of New Jersey, needs all of you to bring your passion out to the Stadium come September, because we’re building something here, and with all of your help and support this state’s university, Rutgers University, will win championships...”

Especially being at a basketball event - you'd think the speaker what atleast acknowledge it. But im not bothered by it, because im not shocked Schiano didn't do so. Now I'd be surprised if it was Pike

Did he stay for the whole game?
Yes, we had a ton of recruits in the student section and Greg and Christy sat with them the second half. At one point, I think they were actually sitting in the stairs the place was so packed. One of the greatest Rutgers days that I can remember going back as far as 1976.:Rutgers:CHOP:

You have no idea what Pikiell would do. I do know how he had Hobbs’ back when the Schiano deal fell through. And, gee, he never mentioned “football”. Go figure, huh?

“Pat Hobbs is, by far, in 26 years of doing this job I’ve worked for eight, nine, 10 athletic directors, and he’s by far the best I’ve ever worked with. He has done so many things in my three years here for Rutgers.

"It’s a very difficult job any time you’re an athletic director. There are a lot of agendas. And he has been for the student-athletes, he has been for the coaches, my staff, the players in my program. He’s built new buildings, raised a hundred million dollars. I think what people forget about is all the great things, and we’re so into the negative. This guy’s great, and he’s a great person. And this stuff needs to stop.

"He’s done a great job and he’s going to go down as one of the best athletic directors Rutgers has ever had. And I hope you print that and quote me on that and understand the job that he has done in the last four years.

"There hadn’t been a new building built here since 1977. You just got into the best league in the country. Some teams in this league have been in this league for 125 years. We just got into this league five years ago.”

I was hoping he would mention Rutgers sports in general too... with a nod to the great environment at the RAC. Something like "If you think we're fired up in here right now, you ain't seen nothin' yet!" Would've been cool. Oh well... missed opportunity.

Smh.. Like the situations were anything alike. Was Pike inside of the football stadium, infront of a football enthused atmosphere - when he failed to even acknowledge the event going on? Not a big deal though. Im surprised anyone would've expected anything different

Agree. Thought the same thing. A no brainer.

I mean really! wtf ...is the point of your of your hobbs rant...hobbs never watched a college fb game ..........this not knowing college fb bs boggles my mind.....im a casual fan of cfb, and know who coaches who, and ect, ect,ect...but, hobbs is totally clueless........he's ,just hyper focused on all thing bb......why don't you just let it go, and join the team
if hobbs f's up he will be let go, or resign.......and now you want to call pikiell a suck up, to prove a point....get over it

His object behind the speech was to unite NJ sports fans into a cause they could all get behind. Not to alienate one side. Thus why he said, "we need all of NJ" it was a calculated move to talk football only as one side doesn't have one. Think before you bitch people, think.

Well considering the SHU fans in my section were booing him...

Bitching has always been the problem on this board... Rutgers sports nuts need to stop hating the good things and good stuff is happening...I 'm sure Pike and his team understood they weren't being slighted by Greg Schiano...both coaches seem in tune ...we should be too.
