Football Sean Gleeson officially out as OC; Nunz Campanile as interim OC

The Fridge was an offensive genius and a QB whisperer. Best offensive football mind we've had at RUFB, at least since I started paying attention a few years or so into GS's first stint here.

I would think there are others out there with an understanding of running an offense, like Friedgen. Or, if not, maybe RU can pay Ralph to come in and mentor our newest OC for 6 games, see if Nunz can absorb the genius.
Fridge was a great coach the short time we had him. Wish his health at the time were better and he could have remained with us. Was sad to see him go.

How the heck did we get here?

Went from hiring away a BIG12 OC,
Thinking we were gonna have a new innovative high scoring offense.

Year 1 - scoring TDs looking great....
This year, rotating 3-4 QBs in a single 3 down series. Firing same OC in year 3,

Now just hoping to hire an OC that can use personnel effectively & be competent. Ugh another guy punch.

GS is very good friends with RR… Currently the head man at Jacksonville State (Alabama) and undefeated.

He is a proven winner and OC/QB coach and has significant head coaching experience that would be an added bonus for that side of the ball.

He currently makes $500K.
He's a good football coach, but he brings a lot of baggage with him... He'd have to get by any "morality police" at RU (to borrow a term from the current Iranian protests)... The stories about him having his mistress on the sidelines at University of Arizona games were crazy, along with other issues and the lawsuit against him from his time at UofA, along with a few problems from other schools he's coached at...... (His Jacksonville State team is currently 5-1, having lost to Tulsa 54-17 three weeks ago.)

I missed the loss and must have read an older article. If we can get past the baggage… He would definitely get the O going.

There was something in that Gary Nova quote about Friedgen that seems useful today. He said something like RF focussed on what GN had confidence in.. what he could do instead of the stuff he had trouble doing.

Maybe we need to ask the players.. especially the QBs and receivers since that is the thing most in need of improvement... what they want to run.. what they have confidence in doing.. what they think will work. Get their buy-in to a new offensive game plan.. have them "sign up" to run those plays and especially to PRACTICE running those plays perfectly.

When we began the game with those sideline fades I said "FINALLY!".. we do something smart.. see single coverage.. throw it quickly to a spot.. let WRs make plays.. force the CB to cover perfectly.. throw it someplace the safety cannot get to in time.. throw it before a pass rush can be a factor.... in other words.. something we COULD do as long as we executed well. The defense had little to do with its success or failure.

Now.. with a little DECEPTION.. like looking off safeties and running counters.. there's a lot we can do to manufacture that same situation... and a lot more plays we can run. Using teh example above.. maybe there is no man coverage on the outsides... if you tie up a safety through deception.. there goes the deep help and you can make that throw again. That requires a bit more time and blacking and, especially, a QB who can sell a look elsewhere.

I think we can do that in two weeks.. one week to figure everything out and scout Indiana.. and then implement what everyone buys into.

I am really looking forward to this game.

Fans want urgency and accountability. We saw that with this move and yet some are still complaining. For that group — you may be proven right that Schiano won’t get it done, but it’s really weird that’s your focus when Gleeson clearly wasn’t making us better.
Rutgers fans hate 2 things the most:
1) change
2) the way things are
