Many of us said RU would lose more money keeping Ash. The decision to keep him is astonishingly penny wise and pound foolish for a department who should have that maxim etched on their door.

A rationale someone said here could be Hobbs views the buyout is tangible "$9mil cash" while the future loss revenue was still hypothetical.

Its easier to downplay and underestimate the hypothetical number when making decisions or running it past Barchi.

A simple way to look at it is that a big cost incurred (like a buyout) is going to be personalized to the AD doing it (especially when the guy doing the buyout did the hire), while huge revenue losses become just another chapter in the "Rutgers huge sports subsidy" story that doesn't get blamed on one individual.
