Season Tickets

Rutgers won’t drop prices by a dollar. They’ll need to see empty seats for sure before they even think about it.

Personally I wouldn’t even think for a second about giving up one of my 100 level seats. And would love to take yours off your hands I’d even pay for them and let you keep your seasons ticket streak.

It has been such a chore to get to the early week night games and then see horrible basketball. Many of us need to strike a balance between work and home responsibilities while trying to attend all of the games that we pay for. When the product is not enjoyable to watch, what is the motivation to buy in for another season? I am a pretty loyal fan but this year really broke me. I will still watch from the comfort of my couch and pay below face value ticket prices to go to games I feel like going to in the future.

The rac is in a terrible location. In the middle of nowhere Piscataway. Combine that with the weird game day theatrics de-emphasizing the collegiate nature of it and overall poor fan experience the only thing that makes it viable is giving the diehards hope that the games will be exciting. Lethargic performances like we’ve seen at home the last two years will drive them away in droves which will add to the downward spiral as opposing fans take over the arena making a shitty experience even worse.
The RAC is a dump.

I heard two people in this thread say they were giving up tickets. Two. And I call BS on those two. They will be back. Anyone leaving isn’t a real fan anyway.
OK so now every season ticket holder is in this thread. You said it was all in MY head. OK. we'll see. I would also bet 100 level folks don't. But according to Rutgers all tickets for this year were Season tix. ZERO single games available. Want to wager on next season? I'll put up, will you?

I'm giving up my tickets this year. I left with T2k during the Fred Hill error and re-invested when Pike was trending up.

Part of the issue is the financial commitment and part is a poorly coached product. It's too many games and my schedule is too tight with my kids schedules and work. I don't really enjoy the games when I'm there and would rather tune in on TV at this point so I can turn it off when done. The TV factor actually makes this decision much easier for me as most of the games are on TV now and I don't have to rely on just listening to the radio.

I will be going to the final home games and treating it as my last hurrah.

I am sadly in the same predicament but this year broke me. Too much of a time commitment with work and family. Even my kids who enjoyed players from few years ago are no longer excited to go with me :(

My daughter and son-in-law (both RU grads) are offering to go in half with me so I don’t give them up. I don’t want them to pay so I might just keep them one more year., but it was me telling them I was done after 35 years that made me realize they even wanted them.

This season has been the least enjoyment I’ve had with my season tickets (6 years).

Least amount of games I’ve gone to and there’s been virtually no interest on this board when I try getting my tickets in the hands of Rutgers fans since December.

I don’t know if Pikiell can ever build a team again like he did with Geo, Ron, Caleb, Cliff, Mulcahy etc. in the NIL era.

Following a team every year that has 50-75% + turnover just isn’t fun, especially if we stink.

I’ll be keeping my tickets next year in the 200s but it could be the last. It’s not cheap to have season tickets and it’s a massive commitment, especially if you live an hour away.

Teams crying and begging for money has ruined college basketball. High turnover everywhere, free agency (whatever you want to call it) , coaches leaving/taking jobs due to donors alone, all of it sucks. Fu*k this version of college basketball. Plenty else to do.

BS. You enjoyed last season more? Last year everyone bitched the team could not score and they would rather lose in a high scoring offense. Now we have Ace and Dylan. There have been highlights all year. Maybe your expectations were higher and that’s what created the disappointment.

I said what I said.

This is the least amount of games I went to this year and it was by choice. And yes, maybe some of that is because we didn’t come close to expectations. Outside of a few games, this team lacks effort and a desire to win.

And I was definitely not one that said I would rather lose in a high scoring offense lol. I would watch the NBA if I wanted to see that.

It’s hard for me to watch a team that doesn’t know how to play defense or box out for a rebound.

It’s also not as fun to watch a brand new team every year with kids who are here for 1 year and have little attachment to RU, or freshman who may just ditch the program for a bigger bag after 1 year.

Watching Dylan’s and Ace was entertaining this year but most of their best games were away from the RAC. But I don’t watch college basketball to watch 1-2 superstars blow people away while the overall team plays like crud. Again, I would watch the NBA if I wanted to see that.

Sounds like the message board will be easier to read too. All the know it alls are jumping ship! The basketball IQ will increase significantly when that happens.
Stop being a know it all and think you’re some super fan. I will always be a loyal fan who donates to KotR. I’m a 4 sport season ticket holder and just don’t have the time, money or energy to drag myself to 15+ games a year of this ineptitude. Unfortunately, I will be a 3 sport season ticket holder instead. Maybe I’ll pick up some games occasionally. Change things up and maybe I’ll change my mind but I doubt it.

I enjoyed last season more. Lack of defense bothers me. Id rather watch Oskar and Simpson over Ace and Dylan. Thats just me.

I understand what you’re saying but imo it’s kind of poor form to call out Bailey and Harper. I know you’re not necessarily doing that. I’m guilty of roasting Dylan for iowa and maybe he wasn’t 100% I don’t know but in general freshman even superbly talented ones are going to hit a wall and aren’t going to be able to finish games consistent against 22 and 23 year old men. Baileys effort has definitely improved significantly. I think Harper’s has issues with his health. Whatever it is I think we should reign in the criticism. Just my opinion.

What I am willing to pay for seats would make you fall out of your chair. I can't get them because people have sat on them for 30 years donating the bare minimum to keep them. I truly hope some people puke out. I want those seats badly.
Let me fill you in …a lot of those 100s “die hards….” ….regularly sell their seats . I sit in 105 …and I can tell you that the seats around me (front , back, and side of where I sit, a good third are regulalry sold. I regularly deal with the enemy fans ….

I’ll gladly say this because it doesn’t apply to me…and I’m not trying to be arrogant , but the donation level to keep them needs to go up, otherwise 1/3 plus will continue to be sold on the open market

I actually think a BETTER option is double the donation requirments for the 100s …but sell severel of them as half season tickets

I have said the same thing. Rutgers fans don't usually want to give above the minimum to keep their seats so RU has no choice but to raise the floor of the minimum giving level. Sure, some people will drop. Some people like me will scoop them up or they will have some left over but I bet the revenue amount is the same or more, which is a win.

It’s been a disappointing year but are we going to act like the last 6 years haven’t been amazing for season ticket holders? We’ve had like 15+ ranked wins, sellout after sellout, and one of the loudest home court advantages in CBB.

That said, I’m a homer and will be in my seats no matter what.

Has it really been six years? Three seasons ago that team absolutely imploded down the stretch. The rac advantage started to show cracks. Granted we lost Mag but that Minne loss on the road had nothing to do with Mag. Then while we accepted the NIT that game wasn’t fun. In the end the season wasn’t a fun one in total. Last season was a disaster and most just held on to get to this season. And now this season and we’re a laughing stock again. Now the 2019-2022 seasons, Chefs kiss. Not just in terms of quality, ncaa basketball, but in terms of entertainment. The balance of the pep band and music, timed well with game flow and really worked the crowd up. It was a party! Now it’s just poorly timed music on timeouts. Not much band and endless tshirt times and tv giveaways. I’ll probably keep my seats too, but the rac the last few years isn’t close to what it was 2019-22

I get your point but I’m not talking about season result. I’m saying as a season ticket holder the RAC has been electric and a huge home court advantage. Since pike, it’s gone from a ticket that you couldn’t give away for free to highly desirable. To me that is true even through the past two disappointing seasons you mentioned. We went 14-6 and 12-5 at home in those two years and knocked off really good teams in the process.

On the music issue/giveaways, I totally get where you’re coming from. In my opinion, those are things that become more annoying when the product on the floor is bad. If we were ranked right now and in the midst of a great season, my guess is that very few season ticket holders (if any) would be complaining about the pumped in music and t shirt tosses. Same with the horn in football. If we made the CFP you could blast that horn 100 times for all I care! When we’re icing a kicker on a 58 yard FG into the wind, the horn pisses me off!

No you’re right on those points. I hear what you’re saying. Sadly we’re back at “can’t give the tickets away” again. And I’m ok with some of the pipes in music but it just seems off. A few years back if we went on a run and the opposing coach called time out we’d bury them in music and get the crowd even more riled up. Now if the opposing coach calls a timeout cause we’re on a run we have someone getting an honorary award at center court and the momentum dies.

Nope, don’t like the horn at all in football. Ever lol

I'm not there yet, but getting closer. And it's probably the college game in general rather than our team specifically. Free agency is killing it for me. Not only our own roster turnover. Part of the enjoyment was looking forward to the matchups year after year, following the other BIG teams and how they develop. Now, I find myself asking my kids "wait, who did he play for last year?" about half the guys on the other teams roster.

We're all Rutgers fans, but this game is becoming far too much about the individual rather than the team. The way things are going, I wonder when we take the school names off of the jerseys so the players can use the space for even more advertising and self promotion?

Great points. It's just not the same anymore.

I'll add another one that's coming -- tournament expansion. Once that inevitably happens, the regular season will be seriously devalued. But hey, if we're gonna be bottom half of the league maybe that's a good thing in terms of Rutgers and making our seasons relevant beyond early February. Even if it's bad for the sport overall.

I have been a season ticket holder for 42 years
I have great seats behind the basket in the second row
Last year I was thinking about paying up and trying to get an additional first row floor seat if I could
I was thinking I would go up to a 40 k donation if I could get the seat
I thought this year could be special
Right now I'm thinking I'm not even going to renew for next year
I'll see how we do in the portal fist

Agree about the atmosphere at the RAC being destroyed by our own athletic department/gameday ops. They spend money on spotlights, truck with billboards outside, endless t-shirt tosses to the same 100 people. Yet, they miss the mark completely and destroyed what made the RAC “the RAC” by killing the pep band, blasting music like the stadium to where you cant talk to the person next to you, and making the crowd organic noise quieter. Also stupid timeout cadences, do the ceremony stuff in the first half, second half needs to be band and pump up the crowd

Lots of diversions about what destroyed the RAC. They are all very minor except for one. The product is what destroyed the RAC.
Exactly!
When the product in the court is good/great the RAC is phenomenal.
When the product isn’t good, the fans don’t show up or are less likely to be animated.
I don’t go back as far as others but this has been true in the past 30 years for sure.
(Same with football.)

I don't even think you have to go that far so you don't alienate your top donors with more seat donations (unless money going to NIL).

Just re-do the seats and start from scratch. It happens at big time schools all the time. Get the guys with the largest priority points down low. Give everyone a chance to get their PPs up if they want to sit down low by donating. If you really want to be smart allow NIL donations to count toward PP before you do this.

If you sit in the 100s and don't give anything more than the bare minimum...then you won't be in the 100s any longer.

What does a priority point translate to in terms of a contribution?
I think $100 donation = 1 point for that year and .1 life time.

You also get points for every year you're a season ticket holder so the people who have done the minimum now for 20 years already have 20 points plus minimum amounts life time, probably adds 5-10 points. It's very easy to mail it in and do the bare mininmum to keep those tickets.

Would work better after a very successful season
