Seattle Times: Huskies, a 26-point favorite against Rutgers, eager for Saturday’s season opener

I have coached good and bad teams in my life and until Rutgers comes out and proves they are not a bad team this is how we are going to be treated.
Exactly. We just have to keep our mouths shut , let the team come out and play their butts off and pinch gh in the mouth . Give them a game to remember. Talking from our fans means nothing right now.

Why do we have to keep our mouths shut?
BTW- I do feel that it could be possible to get blown out but feel there is a higher % that we don't. We are still thinking we have a Flood run football team that had no clue on defense or how to compensate for weaknesses. I have a feeling a guy who learned under some of the best in the very best conferences, may have a better game plan.

26 points seems like an absurdly high number.
It was 25 points months ago. The fact it went up and not down tells you all you need to know. Take the points, this won't be a pretty game guys

Odds on the first game is always crap shoot. No one really knows how good a team really is until a couple weeks in. There are a lot of moving parts year to year in college football. To me, 26 seems high, but that's why they play the game. The spread is 5 points higher than our 2014 OSU game. I am more confident going to Washington, then I was going into OSU.

Pretty much it. Also look at our depth chart (or lack of depth chart). Strong first team, but if any key injuries or first team, we may be toast. At this point, on paper it don't look promising. But, that's why we play. Who cares about the spread and let's see how the team performs. Maybe our depth isn't all that bad.

OK well I'm going to call a little BS on this spread

I FULLY understand our predicament. New coach, new scheme, no Carroo, no QB, 4-8 season.

But what exactly did UW do last year to instill this kind of preseason hype? 7-6? Gave up 31 points in the bowl game to Southern Miss??

As bad as we were at times last year (and we were REALLY bad at times , especially defensively) we were one good D stop from upsetting MSU and one play from beating WSU

I have no doubt they're good. But these guys are full of themselves too. We'll see.

I'm not sure they are all that deep either...just saying. We tend to look at our team in a fishbowl and sometimes fail to realize that there is another team on the field that also have some underlining pluses and minuses...

26point favorites is a joke....This is not a playoff contender team although you'd think so based on the betting line. I hope Rutgers uses this as additional motivation.

It's a travesty that sports book is not available in AC

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to bet this game anyway because it involves an in-state team.

All legislation that they have attempted to pass excludes betting on games involving in-state teams. Which sucks.

Not sure if that's just for non-pro games (I'm sure it would be) but I know I was sorely disappointed when I read the full proposed legislation.

I am optimistically pessimistic for both the game and the season. In true RU fashion we will steal the game is Seattle only to return home and lose to Howard.

Like most other teams we've played lately , UW will stuff the box and defend the run, and see if Laviano can keep them honest w his arm. Seeing and hitting the Receivers will be key .

We may not win. It would be more than great to win and I hope we do.

What I want more than anything is to represent; I don't mean just show up. I mean play smash mouth football, bloody their noses and whether they win by 1 or 26 I hope the Huskies come out of there knowing they were in a fight for SIXTY minutes! I want them to respect RU Football when this is done because IF we lose, revenge will be sweet.

I'm too lazy to go back and look but how many times in the recent past have we not covered against OOC P5 or equivalent type teams?
We were close to double digit dogs against wsu last year
Prior year we were big dogs to wsu, navy, and NC
Arkansas twice? Fresno state?
In fact, I remember a thread about how many straight times we had beaten the spread.
Will we cover? Not sure but IMHO the spread is way too high. Vegas set the spread based on us being a dumpster fire. It has stayed there based on national perception we are a dumpster fire. Are we?

Winning the Fulmer Cup didn't help matters .... with that said the spread is crazy high. I have Washington at +13.

26.5 at Stations and happily took it...... I think you may be able to get 27 by Friday (though I bet the line comes down fast Sat. morning as the sharps jump on it).

UW D is good.... but you don't score points with D... their O is questionable at best... essentially 4 TDs to cover? taking it all day.......

Just to give you an idea, the point spread was smaller when we faced #1 ranked OSU in 2015.

I am not saying we have a chance to win this game but they are giving us zero credit and UW too much credit, IMHO.

Over my limit of articles read from the Seattle Times. When I google the article title and click on links, it all leads back to Seattle Times stating I'm over my limited. Bummer. Would love to read these articles, however, don't want to spend the time buying a trial subscription and then cancelling

20-23 I understood as a line but NOT 26. The odds-makers are smart, however, as they're evening out the $$$ now. Not surprising.

I sure as hell hope our kids aren't checking, let alone worrying about, point spreads.

BINGO!

Wasn't he beaten out for a starting spot by younger players during camp?
No idea ... all I know is the WR group was already hurting before this event. Lenius is known to Huskies fans for making 'the catch' last season vs USC. It was the ESPN play of the week.

I f'in hammered RU +24 a month back even though line moved as high as +27, I am very confident in +24

Some prime bulletin board material.

Seriously? You want people to take the comments on Rutgers stories on our local papers' websites seriously? If one of their players said something like that, sure. But fans? The same kind of clueless yahoos who inhabit every team's fan base?
