Security when entering the Rac

this

I don’t.care about kids smuggling in a 12 pack .

I’m more concerned about people smuggling in firearms ……
Yes, even just getting the express scanners that alert for weapons would be a great move and reduce bottlenecks at the door. They don’t do any real checks at football games either which is just as confusing.

They can also do a full check and allow sealed food/water unless they really botched the vendor contracts. A lot of venues allow sealed water bottles and at a minimum allow food for kids and special circumstances.

Airport security does nothing
One of the craizer takes I've seen
Well, it's based on my experience as a federal agent and more specifically, what I was taught at Quantico and what I learned while flying armed probably 30 or 40 times (maybe more). My point about Rutgers athletic events is also buttressed by my experience as yellow jacket security for two years at both Rutgers football and Rutgers basketball games (as well as other live events at the football stadium and at the RAC).

The security is powerless to prevent any type of terrorism. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when airport security was being taken more seriously than at any other point in our country's history, the TSA was missing 70% of all contraband (drugs, guns, knives, explosives, large stacks of cash, etc) that was going through airport checkpoints based on testing and audits the Department of Homeland Security was performing.

EDIT:
They miss 95% now.

💯
Which is exactly why I started this thread, as it’s literally the only athletic venue I’ve ever been to in the past 10 or so years that does not have metal detectors

The football stadium doesn’t either, at least at the North and South gates

Has there ever been a single incident because of lack of security? I'm cool with not waiting in long lines in the cold but maybe that's just me.
You think it would be appropriate to wait for an event to occur before implementing/enforceing any deterrent measures? Oh boy...

I think it would be appropriate to enact deterrent measures if there was some real risk. Has anything ever happened at any sporting event in this country ever? Plenty of minor league stadiums and college stadiums/arenas don't have metal detectors.

On the other hand, events have happened at malls, movie theaters, grocery stores. Does that stop you from going to any of those places? Because none of those have any security still.

I'm hoping with the ouster of the security chief 8 1/2 years ago and technology getting better in that time, that the 95 % number has gone significantly

95 % seems really high - not saying these guys catch 100 % of the bad stuff, but only catching 5 % seems way off

You make very valid points above. I think there is always a risk for soft targets and no that doesnt deter me from being present. I'm actually surprised heavily attended sporting events have not been targeted. But the bigger/more popular ones do have a heavier police presence and who knows what that may or may not have stopped. Waiting for "real risks" to occur sets up for possible failure if those risks are not detected or not detected quick enough. Who would have thought on 9/11, four planes would have been hijacked simultaneously and used as missiles against national targets? If today's security measure were implemented in 2001, we wouldnt have lost 3,000+ to those terrorist attacks.

Don’t know about anyone else but I like being alive. I wouldn’t mind walking thru a metal detector or waiting an extra 2 minutes if it meant preventing someone from bringing in a gun.

Me either
I also don’t mind paying extra for tickets if it means a little bit of security

Yeah let's make it like the North gate in football so it takes 25 minutes to enter.

If some people are really concerned about someone bringing a firearm into the RAC or a terrorist attack they should probably stay home. If you seriously view that as a possibility, why would you ever take the chance to watch a sporting event?

Went to a Broadway show yesterday , had metal detectors but didn’t have to empty pockets of keys, phone etc. Pretty smooth, but lot less than 8,000 passing thru

I feel the country has fallen asleep again and gotten a bit too complacent

Of course it's a possibility
Things like this have been on my mind (not at the top, and not to the level of becoming a hermit and giving up things I love) ever since 9-11
