Shaun O'Hara Supports Flood

a RU Hall of Famer who supports RU much more than most has the right and should say what he wants--especially when he believes it

Cabbage you are dead wrong
I've seen Shaun at some of our football letterwinners meetings and he's been involved in things his own way. Some folks like to maintain a low profile. In this case he felt that perhaps it was a good time to come out and support a solid coach and educator as opposed to having Flood be exposed to the typical Rutgers Screw by administrators running scared. Barchi will probably be finished this coming June. His best thing would be to finish up what he was brought in for and fade away. When it comes to athletics he has brought nothing to the table nor has he added anything to what was on the table.

Shaun has earned his right to speak out. 'Nuff said. And thank you Shaun for the many good things you do and how well you represent Rutgers. A true Hall of Famer in many ways.

He has every right to say what he thinks, but just like everyone else, should think about how it makes RU look when he speaks out

you are wrong but still alive---your defense of ?whoever? and acting like he just has some grudge is wrong and just an excuse for what?? he has all the right in the world to defend flood and criticize whoever he pleases---and yes he knows more about what's up at RU that many

I was asking for support for your comment that 'Shaun knows more about Julie or Dr. Barchi than anyone here.' You've repeated it again in this post "yes he knows more about what's up at RU than many" Do you have any basis for that?

As I said above, to my knowledge, Shaun has virtually zero affiliation with the school since Pernetti was fired. Even prior to Pernetti being fired, Shaun was not a big supporter of the school. He has always been primarily involved with other charities. He has never worked with Julie. I am not defending anyone, I am just stating the facts as I know them. I may be wrong, because while I have spoken with Shaun on occasion, I certainly don't have the opportunity to speak with him regularly.

If you can support your comments and Shaun is involved and supporting the school, than I agree he can criticize whomever he pleases. But, if he is not doing anything for the school, I don't appreciate him publicly criticizing school leaders. His post shows a general lack of understanding, and accomplishes nothing other than to incite more ill-will towards our AD and President. As I noted above, the inquiry is objective - Flood either asked for a grade change or he didn't. "Support" is meaningless.

Let me ask you, if the investigation uncovers an old email where Flood said to a professor "you better change that grade or I will have you fired" would you still "support him"? If you said "no," then you know the reason we haven't heard from Barchi or Julie. They are waiting until they have all of the information. Imagine the media if Barchi publicly declares his unyielding support for Flood, and then the following day that email is uncovered.

How is he supporting the school in general?
As someone else posted prior to this ...if you, I and other alumni gave back like O'Hara we would be doing quite well as a program...
How anyone affiliated with RU doesn't know this is just blind eyed.

The tweet doesn't any good for anyone and just fans the embers. We should all just sit tight until the findings are made public. Anything else is just speculation at best, at worst it is gasoline for those inclined to see the whole house burned down.

I am talking about his tweet.

I know. I'm not accusing you of that. Just saying we all love it, and show it in different ways. I appreciate what he tweeted.
I think it was ill advised , but O'Hara has a right to say what he feels, just should think about how it looks to the general public.
His tweet might be meant for Barchi and Hermann, but reflects on Rutgers University as well.
There are better ways than call the RU leadership spineless and silent.
Just say you're disappointed in the lack of support they seem to be giving Flood.
Don't make it look like, or imply, the school is dysfunctional while an investigation of possible impropriety is going on.
That feeds the media types looking for a negative story and gives them something to use against Flood and RU.

How much does Shaun give to the school?

And now dan the dbag has an article up about ohara's tweet.

like i said in my first post: ohara shouldnt have attacked anyone. it makes it seem like theres a war internally in the university. there isn't.

Big deal, Baylor AD (forgot name) and President Ken Starr had statements the very next day after the Boise St player got arrested and Briles coverup was mentioned everywhere. They said there would be an investigation, and they'll get back to everyone when it's over, now that story is pretty much gone.

Generic statements were sufficient. Our Pres and AD have their heads in the sand. Actually Barchi is no where to be found, even though underclassmen are in dorms and classes start this week. Maybe he's back now, who knows. They better get this settled this week. It was so supposed to done 'quickly', lol, yeah right.

Because Baylor will circle the wagons and protect their own. We wait for a slip up so we can have a public hanging. If I was either of them, I wouldn't say anything until investigation is over.

Cabbage, you asked how much Shaun has given to the school. I guess you are a non alumnus or really don't follow things closely. For your information Shaun has set up an endowed scholarship at Rutgers which I believe is or has been funded by him in the amount of $100,000. This was done under Tim Pernetti's watch. If every one of the former Rutgers players who were or are in the NFL or any other pro sport would commit to doing half or even a quarter as much, the program would be in great shape as far as scholarship aid and reflect a true meaning of giving back. Great job and comment and show of support by Shaun....and he was a walk on! Check your facts first!

I don't get how anyone can think that making a statement before the investigation is over is a good thing

I am not going to slam Shaun as he clearly loves and supports RU...but his tweet showed a serious lack of good judgment

You are right. I forgot that he endowed the scholarship. I remember that being posted here after a lot of people were criticizing Shaun for not giving back. Please don't get me wrong, Shaun is certainly an incredibly charitable person, and the world would be a better place if more people were like him. His charitable efforts are generally not directed at Rutgers however. I continue to believe that he hasn't been involved with the school since Pernetti was fired, but I was absolutely wrong to forget about the scholarship.

No need for the dig, I asked in both my posts for anyone to tell me if I was wrong. Must be a non-alumnus? Seriously? Do you know everyone who has endowed a scholarship at Rutgers? I have two RU degrees and follow things very closely. My reactions are driven by the fact that it is time for all alumni to get over the firing of Tim Pernetti and stop attacking the school. Many of these individuals do not realize or care the damage they are doing to RU as a whole. For me, I am not a Tim fan or a Julie fan, I am a Rutgers fan. Whatever is best for the school will always carry the day for me.

Some of you guys need to take the sticks out of your a $$es Shaun said what needed to be said and exactly the way it needed to be said. Barchi is gutless and spineless he's more concerned about his own disposition than supporting an employee below him

Thanks Shaun for not being a pu$$y and not being afraid to say something that might upset some who like to walk on eggshells. It's about time.

What exactly is the damage being done to RU by Shaun making that tweet ? He has a right to say what he thinks.

Look, the President and the AD are good people but they are just the type of people TRENTON wants. Take orders and don't make waves with the bi-partisan politicians in Trenton that would cut even more funding to RU if they got the chance. We need someone to take it to them, in Trenton, and show them that investing in RU both academically and athletically is a Win-Win for the state. I'd love to have a RU version of George Steinbrenner.

OK. Lets play what if

Barchi comes out and says what we all already know - Flood is under investigation for this infraction and we will get back to you when the results are in.

Well damn - thats been known since day 1. Do you think Barchi or Hermann repeating it makes it less likely that the Ledger doesnt run 4 stories a day trying to make this a scandal when it isn't? Seriously?

You people have to be smarter than this. You are playing right into the hands of the Ledger - who by the way - is fully aware that neither Barchi nor Hermann are particularly popular among RU sports fans. O'Hara did too.

WTG O'Hara. The longer this goes the more I think they're trying to find a way to dump Flood. Just how much "investigation" is needed to read an e-mail and interview Flood? So you build this up from nothing and go back and find every single e-mail Flood has ever made, find some horseshit "pattern of abuse" and give Flood his walking papers. You make the faculty happy, and you pacify the alumni faction that wanted Flood gone in Hermann's first year and now want it more because they think he can't recruit. Win win for all the a-holes. But not for Flood, a decent guy who's done a decent job but never was the marquee name that some know-it-alls think we need to compete in the Big Ten.

THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH PERNETTI

Of course it does. Explain to me why Barchi is a "spineless president" without referencing the firing of Pernetti. Barchi gets absolutely hammered on these boards, and the entire basis for all of the hatred is the firing of Pernetti.

Barchi had shown nothing in the way of leadership as it pertains to athletics and even to student life. Compare him to some of the past presidents like Mason Gross or Ed Bloustein who occasionally would stroll over from their home adjacent to the practice field. Heck Barchi doesn't even spend that much time in residence at the President's house. He was hired for one thing only and that was to integrate the med school into the Rutgers family. On that score he rates high on anything else it's low. Let's call it the way it is and that's what Shaun did.

Shaun backs up his comments both in knowing Kyle as a person, educator and coach and by his willingness to support the program with an endowed scholarship which is probably more than 99% of the folks who question his comments. Anyone who thinks Barchi has handled any athletic related situations effectively and on target better question themselves first. Rather than handle things in house his method has been to refer to outside counsel at an unnecessary expense and waste of funds for a financially challenged university.

Sweeney's smiling and the media has more ammunition to use against Rutgers .
Shaun's tweet hurt more than it helped and those who think he was only supporting Flood must have blinders on.

yes it does...people still hold that stupid grudge...move on

People in this thread do not get it.....what has Barchi done wrong here. They don't want Flood gone..you people with your conspiracy theories that someone there is a scheme led by Julie and Barchi to get rid of Flood and by not speaking it confirms...ludicrous.....an investigation is going on..no one is supposed to comment...if Flood didn't comment last week this may have been over already. Support Flood because he really did nothing wrong but I am scratching my heads as to why people are praising Shaun for nonsense bashing of the Pres and AD. They didn't create this investigation, Flood did

lmao..move on...do you really think the school wants to create as scandal so they can fire flood who they pay under $1 million..so laughable

Politi must be laughing at how easy it is to divide the RU fanbase. They can play both sides now, he actually praised RU for doing the investigation and now he will slame them for not publicly supporting Flood even though the investigation is still going on

The pettiness of some members of our fanbase needs to stop..including Shaun, its not the first time that he tweeted negatively against the administration

Especially laughable, because if they wanted to fire Flood, they would have just done so last year. Why create a scandal when they could have just fired him for losing to Penn State and getting blown out by Wisconsin.
