Not saying good or bad hire. Personally I would have preferred someone with CEO pedigree as we've had 4 years of learning on the job. He looks to be a solid coordinator.

Finding the "diamond in the rough" assistant is however such a search firm move.

So much for backing up the brinks truck for a new coach. Really, really, really, like to see him get well paid and EXPEREINCED assistants. Energy looks good-but someone needs to have the tempered CEO hand. We've seen the fiery dc (Muschamp) in over his head as CEO. The staff is going to be really telling.

So if Ash came about on Wednesday after Cuse interest, who were we on from Monday till Wednesday? Interesting.

1 don't like the ceo analogy because the fb hc only runs fb. If you are trying to make a buinsess analogy the fb hc is like a business unit head not a ceo. Sheesh.

2 forget hc experience of those available to ru, I would have loved to have landed Mullen, however of the coaches out there that are in RU'S wheelhouse Ash appears to be as a person much better than Cristobal ot that other guy who used to coach at da U

3 which brings me to the prized hc hires. I was hoping however when you look at RU and the support - politically, fan base, student body, media - if I'm an elite hc with options I'm not touching RU. So many posters think it's all about $$$. Throw enough out there and you will get the hc you want however there is an equally important part of the relationship people forget - the coach. If I'm an established elite coach and I've heard and seen RU I may listen but he'll if I'm taking that post.

A coordinator from the previous season's national champion is a "diamond in the rough"?

Why would a big name coach take on a rebuilding program with little tradition? Ash is a,good hire ..

The biggest issue isn't that he's a coordinator. Narduzzi was a coordinator and he would have been a great hireastrong recruiter and area ties - The issue is that you have a guy who not only is not known as a strong recruiter but he has no ties to the area. This is exactly like the terry Shea hire. We had our head turned by some fancy guys telling us how great he is and that trumped any smart empirical analysis. Wow.

If you think a hfc is not a ceo type position you very much misunderstand the position. From summer banquets to recruiting to staff management, oversight of the whole thing is the key.

A coordinator is a division head, responsible for only one aspect of a business-their division. It's not even close that a hfc is an analogus ceo.

As for a diamond in the rough, was anyone talking about Ash last week? You think it was an obvious choice and Hobbs came up with it? If this came from other than the search firm it would be a giant surprise.

The staff is where local ties and EXPERIENCE really will matter. Again, really hope his fiery DC is more GS than Muschamp. It will be all about staffing and being a CEO

Huh? Who said he's not a strong recruiter?
