The fact of the matter is they came into this season with all this unwarranted hype, and trust me you all know I was very vocal about not understanding the rationale for it. But here we are 12/14/2019, SHU is towards the end of their OOC slate sitting at 1-3 in quad 1 games with their best win being in the bahamas vs Iowa St a team that proceeded to wax them a week later. They drop this game and inevitably Maryland and they finish the OOC slate at 1-5 in quad one games putting them SMACK on the bubble and needing to go at minimum 11-7 in big east play to dance. And remember this is a team that was outscored in league play last year and went 9-9 in league play. They got into the tourney as a bubble team last year (10 seed) because of strong play OOC in particular vs kentucky and maryland and a nice win vs marquette in the big east tourney.

Is it important to us and do we wanna win? Hell yeah. But make no mistake, this game is way more important to seton hall than it is to us despite what hall fans are trying to say.

Maybe I'm not understanding. The premise behind your thought seems to be that because we have higher expectations on the year this game means more to us due to NCAA tournament metrics. Ok I'll sign up for that every year. Yes this means more to us because we have hopes of making it to the second weekend in March. Which team wouldn't sign up for that?

You aren't understanding what he is saying. He isn't saying that you need this win because it moves you a step closer to your goal. He is saying that you need this win so you don't keep slipping further from your goal. Because you are falling short of expectations, you need this win to prevent those hopes from being further tarnished. A win Saturday doesn't help SH build a mountain; it helps prevent SH from falling deeper into a hole.

Yes a goal of an NCAA tournament run. If our goal was the NIT it wouldn't mean as much. Nowhere did I say this would get us closer to our goal, but truthfully every win gives any team a better shot.

Youre understanding just fine. It’s your fanbases unrealistic expectation of believing you can get out of the first weekend, whereas I really dont think youre even more than a bubble team

Its the like the movie Jersey Boys, you sell 100,000,000 records and see how you handle it.

You make the tournament 4 straight years, come into the next season with almost everyone returning, with a preseason ranking in the top 15, and see what your expectations are.

This game is just as important for Rutgers to achieve a winning season.Every home game is super important .I doubt Rutgers will be the favorite in any road game based on the performance in the first three road games.

Man....I like your stuff...but right now ...Let’s call them a nationally ranked team and a ncaa team so after we win ...we can call this a good win

This is a HUGE game for Rutgers season hopes as well. Let's not pretend it isn't. Back to back wins over Wisconsin and SHU could change the trajectory of the season for us

Let's see RU win and both programs get to where they want to go. I'll take bubble talk in late February and that only happens if SHU loses Saturday at the RAC and takes care of business the rest of the year, so we don't lose credit for beating a ranked opponent.

Home court is a huge factor, I think SHU has a better chance next weekend hosting Maryland than a potential buzzsaw at the RAC....win that game next week and they're going to dance.

This is about RU and where RU's steps in progression is, which isn't going to be defined by SHU, it's going to be finding a couple of road wins in the B1G and there are at least 7 B1G home games that are much more important than tomorrow, too many to list here. This is a fun time of year, enjoy the ride....!!!

What are you talking about? It's important to them. It's important to us. Every game is important to both teams.Sorry.

If this game isn't huge for both teams it isn't a rivalry. Its huge period. Rutgers can't go into this game thinking its not a huge deal.

We haven’t played anything resembling an important game in at least 15 years. Thanks for being a buzz kill..

The SHU board is full of false bravado but you know they’re scared af about coming into the RAC. This game means as much to them whether they admit it or not.

I dont buy the premise of the OP. Its extremely important for both schools. If RU wants to get 500 and even have a sniff of any post season, they need to win today. SHU obviously needs this for their goal of NCAA tourney.

For me personally I think the rivalry has worn off somewhat since we are no longer in the same leagues. Yes things will be jacked at the RAC but remember how this board USED to be back in the day leading up to this game.

Both teams are south of where they would have hoped to be right now. For that reason alone it’s an important game for both.

I have seen little false bravado. Lots of us are concerned. Losing sandro, the vad game we played last time out, and the rac and frequent sh/ru craziness.

I've said it a bunch of times. If both of us had been any good, this series would get alot of pub. So many crazy kigames, but few have mattered.

I am nervous, btw.
