The poisonous nut of no commercial value (buckeye) punter averages 46 yards per punt. Even if we stop them on defense, we are looking at losing the field position battle.

So do we try to get that field position back by A) concentrating on blocking the punts or B) setting up Grant for a nice return?

I think we have only one blocked kick this year and that was a field goal try. Have we taken our emphasis off of blocking kicks? Do we not have the personnel to do it anymore? Are teams countering what we do to block kicks? Seems like we only make a half-hearted effort to block the kicks and emphasize setting up the return. Maybe we need to put Grant back there on his own and really go all out for the block. Even a hurry up would help. What we can't do is give up 46 yards AND not get a decent return.

When teams have a good punter, going for the block helps the returner because 1. the OL need to hold their blocks longer, 2. the punter gets the kick off faster and it creates a bigger gap in coversage. By over kicking the coverage Grant may find seams for better returns.
