St.Johns Closed door Scrimmage per NY Post

We have too much talent for an exhibition against a D-2 team IMO, especially after St. Johns. What can we get out of it, unless it's for a good cause?

There may be a little value in playing lesser competition. Lesser competition usually means smaller lineups which presents different challenges. In addition, gaming the system is beating teams by 30-40+.

Scrimmaging Pace ? What are they Division 3? What is the point of scrimmaging Pace when there are a gizzilion division 1 schools in the area to scrimmage?

One of the toughest parts of game day coaching is squeezing juice.
Basketball is a game of runs. Your team goes on a 14 to 2 run to start the second half. Good coaches know how to keep the pressure up, how to keep working on what is working, how to extend a 14 to 2 run into a 20 to 4 run, because when a good team solves your scheme they will go on a a 14 to 2 run. You need to practice on patsies so you become relentless.

There was a guy named Jerry Tarkanian and he knew/taught this lesson as well as anyone and everyone hated him for it. There was another guy, name of Big John Thompson, who would schedule Little Sister of the Poor and Refrigerator Repair Tech at the start of every season and would coach his ass off in those games to set his guys to fly right for the rest of the schedule.
