Last year, after losing Caroo for a few games, we looked almost this inept on offense. Now, Caroo in playing with the Fish, Grant is out and Martin appears not fully healed. I understand Hicks is not a fit unfortunately in this offense but our OL is beyond terrible yet again, regardless of the scheme. We ran those plays to take some time off clock. Can't throw downfield, or at least no one respects it. we were not in a hurry up tonight. Our WRs are led by a RS frosh. No TE since Tyler Kroft. QB is a mess. Maybe Ash could have tried to bring in some JUCOs but you can't just make up for 3years of sun belt level recruiting with a new coaching staff. It is mostly idiot flood and his pathetic staff fault.

Yes, offense is frustrating and embarsssing. But I'm in the camp of wanting to keep continuity on offense through an off season, something we havent had in years with annual changes at OC.

I was a bit encouraged about D, and some of the younger players there.

Stop blaming the talent.

We do not have great talent. However, we also have a head coach, and a coaching staff who are terrible at their jobs.

Ash might be Lombardi or he might be Shea.

An honest evaluation can't be had until he either gets talent in here or doesn't.

No coach in America could win with this talent. Flood left a completely talentless roster. We have nothing at any level.

D played their hearts out and the O tries. Neither has any playmakers anywhere. Specials? Slooooow. OL can't block, receivers can't get seperation and when they do we either can't get them the ball or they can't catch it. We have one QB that can't run and one that can't throw.

Must be really frustrating for the players and coaches a like. Football, like most sports, are about making plays. We just can't make any at all.

You need to go watch the reply of the game. People keep blaming the OL but watch closely. Many of the broken plays-and for that matter the blocked punt- the blocking was not the issue. People were being blocked. There was a hat on a hat. It was that PSU brought an extra guy at the point of attack that we couldn't block because there were no blockers left. And Drew couldn't write up a play to compensate. There was one play where the zone blitz was coming and the announcers saw PSU set it up and called it 5-10 seconds before the ball was hiked and Drew didn't call out of the play.

It's never all black and white. You fall on one side completely it's the players or you fall on the other side completely it's the coaches. It's usually likely to be something in between. I'll fall on the side of lack of talent more but I also don't believe were are so inept talent wise to get demolished and look as putrid as we have at times this season so coaches bear some responsibility as well.

How much would that have improved us though? How much "prettier" would it have been. Maybe a win or 2 extra or maybe less goose eggs but in the scheme of the retooling/rebuilding is scoring 7-10 pts going to make everything so much rosier? I'm not saying Ash & company will be good and I'm not saying they will be bad, I'm indifferent just as I was right at the start when all the typical hype of a new hire was going on. Just have to see what improvement there is, if any, as they get their own players in their system.

A discouraging year, but it will get better. Our rookie coaches will get more experience. The team will get more talent through transfers and recruiting. The talent we get will be better suited to the schemes. The guys will be more comfortable with the schemes. And not every year will we lose all the toss up games.

This not all about the lack of talent. It is an issue but if you are not seeing evidence of Ash and company learning on the job then I don't know what to tell you. The offense in particular is well......OFFENSIVE!

The talent is not good, can we let Oden throw a few passes? Who care if he throws a pick.

But what if he throws a pick?

We are trying to lose well. Didn't you know that?

quit blaming players.. this falls completely on the coaches and their lack of experience
Again, we are not fielding a team of 11 walk-ons on both sides of the ball. These are 2 and 3 star level players. There is absolutely no reason that they should be 0-8 in the B1G east with four shutouts. Our recruiting classes were much better than Temple's over the last four years, yet Temple blew out Penn State at home last year and could have easily beaten them at Happy Valley this year. The difference isn't talent, it is coaching.

It is easy and convenient to blame the talent, if it is the talent you can convince yourself that a couple of good recruiting classes and we will be competitive, however, if it is the coaching we are looking at 5-6 years before we even have a chance at being competitive. Ash is not going anywhere for the next 3 years, and then you would have to give the next coach 2-3 years to get his kids on the field. So, you can see why some are quick to blame the talent and not willing to face the scary fact it has a lot to do with the coaching. Not every hire works, that is just a fact.

This is the thing people either don't get or refuse to get. Watch some film. Yes, you need talent and athleticism in the same stratosphere to make it work, but football is primarily about scheme and blocking assignments, and we are consistently overmatched in this department. We were last year too with another young first time OC.

Exactly. we certainly could have scored a TD here and there, and may have won another game.

Does Temple have a good senior QB? Much better quarterback.
Temple's QB has had a very modest year at best, 18 TDs, 12 ints. It was his poor play that caused them to lose the Army and Penn State games. It is not all about the QB, that again is an easy out. It is not only the losing, it is the way we are losing that reflects on the coaching.

Temple beat PSU 2 years ago& lost 34-27 this year & are tied for 1st place in their div of the American Conf....three things weve never done...
-beaten PSU in the past 2 years(make that 20 if U like)
-put 27pts on PSU this year in a loss(their QB pasted PSU for 286 yds,,,if thats bad QB play i want some)
- been tied in the American conf for 1st place

Mehringer is at JMU level..hes got to go or Ash will be making a big mistake .himself and program wise.
#Rutgers lost 39-0 at home to Penn State. They've been beaten by Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St. & Penn State by a combined score of 224-0.
Should we over react to this stat or the one where we just set the B10 record for most punts in a season??
Come on..nobody expected six wins but the offense is at Div2 level under Mehringer.

His offense will only work if we manage to land a fully-developed upperclass transfer Vad Lee (The 1aa version of Michael Vick) who is head-and-shoulders better talent-wise than anyone else on the field.

Enough. Seriously, enough. We hung with Iowa lost by o e TD, they beat Michigan. We hung with PSU for a half, and our Defense played well for that half until they were burned out and deflated by another patheric showing by the offense and our cookie cutter play calling/hurry up. Who runs a hurry up in a defensive struggle where we can't move the ball?? We were in position to beat Indiana. Michigan state had no big ten wins.

It's not talent.
