Students:just a thought on the "boycott"

This board sounds more and more like a nursing home every day.

No one's going to care much either way, whether the student section is empty or dressed uniformly in fuschia. Well, except for the meddlers on this board, of course.

I'm guessing most students, and plenty of folks here, don't give a crap about selflessly supporting the school .. it's a football game, it's about fun and entertainment. RU took a big part of that away in a season in which we're putting out a pretty unentertaining product.

Just because you were a student 50 years ago, doesn't mean you're attuned to what's happening now. Might as well let kids do what kids do and not cry about it. Or get your nuts all atwist if you want, but don't think you're really providing much sway.
Interesting post. Times change, people change and so do expectations. It is my perception that younger people enjoy engaging in sports and activities more than watching sports and activities. Gambling casinos are adding more interactive games because young people are not interested in slots. Have you noticed the uptick in bicycling and running and the downswing in golf. Perhaps we need to fill the stadium with Pokemon.

BACK IN MY DAY WE WERE HONEST ABOUT EVERY THING WE DID! With a firm handshake after walking for 50 miles in the snow every day, we bootstrapped ourselves into building character. With a nice "aw shucks," we owned up to our every little mistake.
Heck we just drank beer in the neighbors barns.

When has this been brought up at all as a reason for shutting down the Alley? It hasn't. I'll get off your lawn now.
Imagining that the fact there is a video of the "Sip" had no impact on the outcome is a simplistic view at best. The person who InstaSnapTweeted the video had as much impact as any RU attorney or risk manager on this result.

Just more millennials being millennials. They are entitled to everything with no repercussions for their actions and accept no blame for anything. When does the next generation arrive?
It's funny how you say we're entitled for wanting to protest something, yet on another post on this board, someone told me we should be doing more than just a petition. I told them we would be called entitled for doing that and they vehemently denied it. Thanks for proving my point that we can't win in this situation in the eyes of anyone over the age of 40. When does your generation go away?

@RUin2WIN, thanks for your point of view in this. Question, how many students do you think will show up to the game on Saturday? I mean is it being talked about around campus?

I know that everyone I've asked so far said they're going still. One of my idiot professors told the class the AD should be fired and he got the nastiest looks. Honestly I think if there is a good turn out it's because myself and the rest of the students think Hobbs is awesome. He's making great efforts to reach out to every part of the fanbase, but especially the students. I don't think there will actually be a boycott of the game, but I guess we'll see.

Thanks. I'm really hoping this has the opposite effect-that so many kids turn up the administration has to deal with it.

It's a real possibility. There is no doubt that if the Alley was still running this week it would have made the 5000 mark easily. I'm actually interested to see if students will go to the scarlet walk like Hobbs invited in his letter. It's difficult especially now that we'll be tailgating on College Ave again. We'd have to stop mid tail gate, grab a bus over, and then grab a bus back to finish our tail gate, and then take a bus back to the stadium. Logistically it just doesn't make sense.

Exactly, he would be better served expressing his opinion without commenting about loyalty.

Good points. Younger folks do value doing stuff over owning stuff and sitting passively, I think. Bicycling has definitely been seeing a renaissance, perhaps partly because of that, partly in conjunction with greener living, healthier living, etc.

Hadn't thought about that, but makes a good lens for looking at this issue. Even that blasted electronic noise can be viewed in that light - doesn't make for a great sit-and-watch concert but does invite more dancing/interactivity than rock and other stuff us older guys prefer.

Apples and Oranges. He transferred because his mother was very ill. Nice try. Better luck next time. We have some very nice parting gifts for you.

Or perhaps he could learn to communicate better so he doesn't hang himself with his own words and actions. And the loyalty aspect has nothing to do with his transfer to RU, but rather his decommit from RU.
That may be too much for you to understand. I'll let it go at that.

Also for anyone who would like to help. I'm not very good with design work, but if you create a template or flyer for me with something like #SavetheAlley or #FreetheAlley encouraging students to show up to the game and show their support of the idea. I'll print a bunch and hang them around campus at bus stops and student centers.

"Rally For The Alley!"

Not too much but I do get a kick out of people like you that get your panties in a bunch over commits/decommits. When are you going to learn HS kids do change their mind daily. To try to equate this to a "movement" meant to embarrass the school and desert your fellow students when they need your support is, I admit, not something I understand but carry on.

The genie was let out of the bottle. You have to think like a lawyer who who trying to limit the university's liability. If a student get hurt at this tailgate and decides to sue what impact do you think this would have on potential litigation. Could you imagine trying to defend the university of taking necessary percaution when you have an administrator drinking a beer with students cheering him on? A lawyer would have a field day with that. It probably an overreaction but sometimes it all it takes. At Penn State a student received stitches because they were cut by glass on a field that is used for both intermurals and football parking. The next week all glass bottles were banned in grass parking. You have to take basic safe guards or else it could cost you millions like it has for Penn State.

There was a stadium death due to drinking in the late 70's.

That said on Saturday November 19th we're gonna have a field day those easy country Nittany coeds who don't wind up at "the alley". I think some will get some early Thanksgiving bird...

@knightfan7 The thing is my panties aren't in a bunch over commits, decommits or anything else about sports..pro or college. It's all just entertainment. I want to see our young adults learn how to not trip over their own words. Nothing more than that.
Also, if I wrote anything disrespectful to you please forgive me. I'm not all that interested in being an Internet warrior. It's ****ing lame.

On the last sentence we agree although I do so enjoy the back and forth.
