Tara Sullivan had a very nice article today on the Hurley decision.

Basically:

- Hobbs was as professional and as masterful as can be in his pitch to Hurley
- Hurley was offered a 6 year contract with assurances of upgrades - with facilities; weight room etc.
- Rather than Hurley saying No to Rutgers - he said Yes to URI - as he feels his team is a top 25 squad next year - when 2 pre season A10 Players - Matthews and Martin - return to URI next season after incurring season ending injuries.
- Source per article said that if Hobbs was AD 3 years ago - in lieu of Kirschner at the time - Hurley without question would have been announced as HC - in lieu of EJ.
- Process for new HC will now in all likelihood take a bit longer.

Is that package available to other candidates ?

Makes me wonder where Hurley could possibly envision himself coaching in the future. SHU may not have an opening for a long time.

true....I think ASU was out of the mind for going with Bobby off of just one season. Danny will likely need to maybe get to the Sweet 16 to make a leap maybe one win..who knows what jobs are open next year...BC, who knows Penn State, Minny, Illinois, Wake, Ga Tech,

Thanks, Phil. Here's what I don't get. The "he said Yes to URI" is such unmitigated BS. If he wanted to stay at URI, why put on the full court press in the papers to get an offer at Rutgers, and then to push that offer away and trash the president? He knew what he had coming back to URI two weeks ago.

It's one thing to think about a job and turn it down. It's another to do so in a fashion that ridicules the place that made you the offer.

I don't think Dan will ever coach at shu regardless of our situation. Other pirate fans disagree b ut I think the hurley family holds our booing Danny while a player against us. And as the father of a former hs athlete, I don't blame them.

I recall lots of drama during Dan Hurley's playing days at SHU. Didn't he even step away from the team for awhile during one season ? I remember reading the SHU BB board at that time and Pirate fans were pretty down on him as a player. Surprised that Seton75 was among the boo birds who taunted the kid on the court.

My honest belief is Hurley did not make the final CUT! Steve Pikiell has a better record and looks like the better coach

I DOUBT IF WE CAN GET sLIM pICKENS. i HEARD THAT HE HAS A LONG TERM,IRON CLAD CONTRACT WITH gENE aUTRY.(CRAP. BUT I am not correcting the typing)
Slim Pickens, great character actor, especially in Dr Strangeglove

He was saying that he didn't blame the Hurley's for their feelings toward SHU fans. Nowhere did he indicate that he was among the boo birds.
