throw in Fresno st, Baylor and I think 6-7 others. What about Butch, Kelly, Sumlin, Mora - do they get the boot also? Do you get the feeling there just aren't that many good coaches out there?

Technically, LSU fired Miles almost 2 months ago.

But, other than that, San Jose State also fired their coach, too.

Butch is a front runner for Oregon.
Summon should be fired
Kelly could go either way but ND boosters are crazy. They will want Meyer, Saban, or Gruden. Jelly is a great coach

Don't think Mora is getting the boot. This was just "one of those years" for UCLA , and their QB injury ended the season for the most part. Think he'll get another year and I suspect UCLA will bounce back. Rosen is an awesome QB.

I get the feeling that what a guy has to accomplish in order to be considered a "good coach" in that league is pretty ridiculous.

If Georgia could go back a year and not fire Richt, would they? They sure had more talent than a 7-5 team that got outscored overall.

With the prices colleges charge for football they need to constantly goose their over-paying customers. Older coaches with past glories seem exciting to people but they rarely deliver. You have Saban and Meyer and then everybody else far below them. I find new coaches with a little fire are more interesting than retreads like Butch Davis.

I like proven winners. I could not care less about "Interesting" coaches.

I kind of wonder if there will be any more firings. It's kind of late as it its. Usually, most coaches are let go by Monday after the regular season finale. Neither the coach nor the AD want things to drag out. Helfrich was a little unusual but that decision was actually expected to happen mid week because the Oregon AD Rob Mullens was on the CFP committee.

I don't think there are any issues like that at other schools. A&M/Tenn have been rumors I've seen during the season but if it hasn't happened by now I wonder if it will. Seems like it could be a slower year for P5 coaching changes.

Texas/LSU/Oregon/Baylor/Purdue and maybe some possible dominoes for P5 to P5 replacements. When I looked last year during our search there were usually low double digit number of P5 jobs open most years. I don't think we'll get that high this year.

Butch Jones to Oregon really? Wow, the guy couldn't even with the SEC east which was on a silver platter this year. All his top recruiting classes really helped.

I've seen McElwain rumored. UF is a great job obviously but there's a new AD there so who knows. Dan Mullen's name is always thrown around so I could see him. Maybe a Dan Holgorsen at WVU. If he can be rumored for Houston why not Oregon, lol.

Then you have Harsin and Fleck. I've always kind of liked Venables at Clemson but have wondered why he's never gotten a job despite a decade or so being a pretty strong DC at OU/Clemson. I've read rumors he's got temperament issues but I don't know. He's suppose to be a good recruiter too. Oregon seems like they could use a strong defensive coach who would be familiar and willing to use the spread. Defense has been their achilles heel recently.

Still haven't seen Les Miles name pop up much even though he seems pretty eager to get back in this year. Might have to sit out the year.

Gee this thread sounds familiar--I started the same thread 2 days ago- title was about how Mora fired his OC after one year, and some got all wadded up about it. Was saying how it was unfair to the OC--is it his fault Rosen got injured? More is not getting fired--he has a huge buyout, and he saved face by sacrificing his OC.

When I saw "Butch" in this thread, I could not who the heck the OP was talking about and could only think of Butch Davis. Butch Jones had me laughing out loud.

um, no.

But, there are a ton of irrational alumni.
Was talking to a Georgia Tech fan yesterday who was saying Paul Johnson should have been fired last year after going 3-9. This year, GT is 8-4 and going to a decent bowl. In 2014, Tech was 11-3 and went to the Orange Bowl. Since 2008, Johnson is 69-48 and has been to a bowl every year except last year. Would not mind having a coach with that record.

I don't think its a case of not enough 'good' coaches, but more a case of donors, alums, and fans wanting an instant winner. The administration follows along. There is a select and VERY small group of schools that figure to be playoff candidates every year. Its a difficult club to join.

Miles will be a hot commodity. Maybe Tressel too... coaches who have won National Championships have a great recruiting story to tell. That is at least partially why Saban and Meyer stand out. Unlike Meyer and Saban, these two did not leave on their own accord.

I think Saban benefited greatly from the SEC propaganda push by ESPN. That is, while ESPN was shouting to the rooftops that the SEC is the place to be, Saban became head coach of the SEC's most storied program. Like Meyer though, Saban knows what to do with the talent.

At perceived elite schools head coaches always have to be looking over their shoulder because championships matter far more than just winning seasons.

In-depth article and interview in the LA Times the other day with Tressell. He's quoted as saying he's very happy as Res. of Youngstown St. and has no interest in returning to coaching.
(Which means, I guess, that he'll end up coaching next year.)

Yeah but I always thought a Dave Wannsted or Butch Davis were pretty solid coaches and could get us the buzz back...we just couldn't afford them when we were in the BE...

You really have to wonder about where we are going with sports when 3 guys get fired with no scandals and their career win percentages are 710 for Miles (770 at LSU), 698 for Oregon coach and 589 for Strong.
