there is still no excuse for students to not go to the game...drink in your dorms and on campus and come over...its done like that at alot of other Big 10 schools
It must have been a series of micro-aggressions!I'm betting it offended somebody. You know, a student who feels threatened (especially since there was no trigger warning) by it's very existence.
Not sure if it would have been fine, but yes, the AD promoting it probably was the issue. Can we just make the Alley an official gameday parking lot, but the only ones eligible to purchase that pass are people who buy young alumni season tickets? This is exactly why I tried to tell people not to discuss it on the boards. If everyone low keyed it--including Hobbs-- all would probably have been fine. You can't have internet posts and social media with the AD implicitly supporting it. Unfortunately in this day and age, the legal ramifications are huge. Sad. My guess is legal and senior admin realized the liability risk and felt they had no choice. Totally sucks and probably could have kept it going but the internet, media, etc just had to have minute by minute updates. Really feel bad for the students. The state needs to make the age 18 again.
Yep, it's gonna be bad. Unreal how good this school is at shooting itself in the foot.Early twitter reaction, student section won't look good on Saturday.

Agree 100%. But it's not just the students.
If RU announced no tailgating was allowed, I'm sure a huge % of our fanbase wouldn't go to games either.
It's a fanbase thing.
without tailgating, there is very little difference between being in the stadium & being at home in front of a 55 inch HDTVAgree 100%. But it's not just the students.

why don't they just go party in the blue or yellow lots?
is it really that difficult
Exactly. Our group used to make it over from Cook/College Ave for Ohio U, Army, and Buffalo when we were students. We now play a schedule I could've only dreamed of as a student. With a bit of gumption and some ingenuity, they can have their cake and eat it too.the students who care about college football and supporting their fellow athletes will be there...the amateurs and bandwagon students who are just concerned about getting shitfaced will not be there...and you know what...alot of them tailgate and then do not go to the game anyway. Kudos to our die hard students who WILL show on Saturday

Fraternities and sororities are getting the news at 6pm

The students used to be in blue back to the '60s that I am aware of. Rightly or wrongly non-students got pissed that kids were out of hand so the students were segregated to the alley. I think if it were low key it might have been fine. Those students that go will be back in blue, I'm guessing.why don't they just go party in the blue or yellow lots?

I'm sure the Hobbs video didn't help but let's be real this would have gotten shut down at some point this season.
This was destined to not work considering the size of the student population, our soft administration, the pussification of America and the scummy lawyers who roam this country.

they need to put these students behind Yurcak...there seems to be plenty of room on the side there..perhaps because the Alley was so confined to an area in the back it got shut down because the inability to get emergency vehicles and control the crowd...they need to work on the compromise and give out at least 50 blue lot passes to these students
I'm tired of being right. I'm not posting the link so it doesn't spread, but a student on here just got a link to a change.org petition to boycott the games until the Alley is reinstated.
Hahaha. Some of you are clueless. None of the party kids go to the games. Same when they were in the Blue. They party. Wait until they are told they must move and than get in their cars and get the hell out of there.Plenty of seats just opened up in the new end zone
Chugging? Hyperbole much?Even if the legal age was 18 binge drinking is a hot topic on campuses. So it probably wasn't the brightest idea for your AD to be chugging a beer in front of the students.
Per twitter.
An official announcement and reason why to be released soon .
this
these kids don't know how good they have it, Iowa, one of the biggest names in college football, is coming to town, yet they want to skip the game because they cant get blackout drunk in the parking lot. Amateurs

Frankly, it was a completely idiotic idea to begin with. The school cannot designate an area for underage drinking. If they create it, they have to police it. Better to let this stuff just happen organically.
Back in the 80s the only lot that was reserved was the Scarlet and it wasn't called the Scarlet Lot. It was the reserved lot. All other lots were first come first served and you could park anywhere you wanted. There were no rows. You made your own spotI don't get why people don't want students in the blue. I'm in the blue.
