Even if the legal age was 18 binge drinking is a hot topic on campuses. So it probably wasn't the brightest idea for your AD to be chugging a beer in front of the students.

I parked in the RV spot in the Blue Lot for 10 years. They'd come in. Party and drive out. Every game.Couldn't be anymore wrong.
You honestly think none of the kids that were in the stands on Gameday attended the Alley pre game?
I graduated in 2011. Thousands of kids went to the lots before the game and then went into the stadium.
If there was a "safe space" there, this wouldn't have happened.

without tailgating, there is very little difference between being in the stadium & being at home in front of a 55 inch HDTV

Not trying to be hostile but i dont think you have been paying attention the last 13 monthswhy don't they just go party in the blue or yellow lots?
is it really that difficult
I'm tired of being right. I'm not posting the link so it doesn't spread, but a student on here just got a link to a change.org petition to boycott the games until the Alley is reinstated.
I'm fine with students in blue too, have been since high school or before. Others had a problem with it.I don't get why people don't want students in the blue. I'm in the blue.
there is still no excuse for students to not go to the game...drink in your dorms and on campus and come over...its done like that at alot of other Big 10 schools
Curious to see what other schools do. Here is a story from last week that limits tailgating for fraternities at University of South Carolina:
Members now have to register to tailgate. Registration must include a list of who will be at the tailgate. Those of legal drinking age cannot bring more than six beers for personal consumption. Plus there has to be one sober monitor for every 30 chapter members.

when I was walking in at 11:40 last week there were hoards(sp) of students walking from the alley to the gates....and the alley was still crammed. I was impressed. They need to just figure this thing out and Hobbs having a beer..BFD! (who cares..only at Rutgers)Couldn't be anymore wrong.

the students who care about college football and supporting their fellow athletes will be there...the amateurs and bandwagon students who are just concerned about getting shitfaced will not be there...and you know what...alot of them tailgate and then do not go to the game anyway. Kudos to our die hard students who WILL show on Saturday
Maybe you should go back and read my original post. "The party kids" don't go into the game. The alley just intensified how big the party crowd was.Yea the kids with the giant trucks and speaker systems didn't go into the games that doesn't mean that all the students who made their way from their dorms, apartments and houses to enjoy some beers in the lots didn't go to the game.
I drank in the blue lot for many a games and know tons of fellow students who did the same and then went into the game.
Would love to know how many students complaining about this actually left the tailgate party to go into the game...my guess is not manyEarly twitter reaction, student section won't look good on Saturday.

Pat Hobbs video now making the rounds in media...ugh.
Why do I have a feeling this is NOT going to end well...............
Quoting this just so more people will see.So.......the school shut down the alley permanently, effectively denying any responsibility for a student sponsored tailgate.....the area is not scheduled to be used for anything else; would the school allot personnel to the area to deter any gatherings there? If people just showed up, would they be chased? ... not that I'm suggesting this should happen...

Students that drive in without 50 friends, set up a tailgate and enjoy a few beers go in like the rest of us. But the Alley was a stupid idea from the start. They should have known that from the disaster a few years back when they tried that by the golf course near the Scarlet and Green lots
That was actually one of their better decisions.Such as firing Joe Paterno

If you think the 6000 kids that sit in the student section every game are coming in off the street stone cold sober, you may want to check that bus for gas leaks.Maybe you should go back and read my original post. Theres very littlle doubt in my mind this decision was made cause Pat Hobbs had a sip of beer. Only at Rutgers.
