Never would have made the comparison before the season...but if Eugene keeps playing like this I would. Similar height and build, good rebounders, can shoot the three..Keith a little more polished offensively with his post up game while Eugene O a better defender.
Thoughts?

I don't remember Hughes being a great shooter.

Wasn't a great 3 point shooter but very solid otherwise. Shot around 46% at RU, averaging close to 20ppg. He also led the A-10 in rebounding twice and was player of the year as a junior. If Eugene can match that we've really got something.

My eye tells me that Eugene has a higher basketball IQ, especially on D. Don't get me wrong, I loved Keith when I was in school, but I actually think that Eugene has a higher ceiling than Keith.

One thing going for Eugene in the comparison is he hasn't had to sit like Hughes did. Hughes didn't play a lot at Cuse for 2 years then had to sit a year after transferring.

Keith was very good handle with the basketball and right now better than Eugene’s

That’s the big difference between the two right now

Keep in mind Hughes was a 20/10
Guy on teams that went to the NIt and NCAA...so he got his numbers and won

Eugene is really impressing me through ...

I think he is on track to be as good or better but I agree with the other poster that he is not there yet. Keith was a very good scorer and played good defense.

What will Eugene 4.0 look like?

If I am Paul Mulcahy or Brandon Knight better work real hard. Eugene 4.0 will be fighting for minutes as the backup PG and assistant coach.

My Montez Mathis comparison was to a guy who coached in the NBA unsuccessfully for 3 different teams and started his playing college career at Garden Community College.

Don't know about the comparison but I'm sure Keith didn't draw 25 charges in a season. Not as good but similar type player to Phil the Thrill.
