Odds are RU will not go bowling but its possible..ALOT of swing games: New Mexico, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Penn State, Maryland but RU would have to go 5-1 in those games or score a very unlikely upset in one of the very likely losses to the 5 toughest schools on the schedule. I just do not see RU going 5-1 in swing games athough the good news is 4 of them are at home. I think RU splits the closing two games of PSU and MD but will not win both. I see RU much more disciplined and looking like a team this year under Ash in stark contrast to the total disarray on the sidelines during the Flood era.

RU's best game will be Penn State. Its worst Michigan State. Its hardest fought win will be New Mexico. IMO this game will be very very important for the mindset of the team going forward, a loss could really mess with the teams confidence. Its going to be the game where I think the fanbase falls in love with team and what the Ash era brings to the table.

Michigan and Penn State will be legit sellouts but Iowa will fall slightly short. Illinois attendance will be sketchy for a homecoming game and it will rain alot during the Indiana game. Oh it will also be brutally hot for Howard.

Still too early to make a prediction. Next week. Tough anytime really when so much can change week to week during a season.

One thing for sure. It really hits home that the season is right around the corner when Bac starts his annual poll. I am officially psyched.

Not to make this a personal convo but why hoops? I'd think you'd be pretty psyched about the goings on over there?

Like I've told you before, how will I know what I just watched if you don't explain it?

If the first game was in the EST zone, I'd give a punchers chance. Out west, no way. OSU and MSU will be much closer than Iowa and Michigan. I'll never predict a loss to psu, but let's just say the opposite of the above happens. 5-7. No big upsets, but a few flashes of what is to come.

I have no idea how this season is going to go. But I'll go on record right now that it will be sunny and nice for the Indiana game.

I have us 4-8 with all of the wins you note except PSU, which sadly I think we lose.

I hate going game by game but I'm vacillating between 4-8 and 5-7.

Chris, I'm not one of the haters, but I still see QB as a massive problem for us.

repeated from the unofficial prediction thread :
Washington: would be considered an upset, especially being away.
Howard: should be easy win
New Mexico: not as easy an opponent as might think, but home cooking does it.
Iowa : timing might be right and facing them at home a bonus.
Ohio St: on my wish list
Michigan: gotta hope
Illinois: RU should be good enough
Minnesota : might not be as good as thought, but game there makes it hard but possible
Indiana : Rutgers Stadium give RU the edge
Michigan St: another on wish list that can only hope for win
Penn St : will be coming in loaded for bear. Maybe leaving feeling like to much beer
Maryland : location might come into play, but should be winnable .

Notice I didn't put down any losses?
That's because : before season starts will not predict a RU loss to anyone.
Every game is winnable: if the stars align right:pray:

Woo Hoo thanks Bac!

On my phone I'll do my prediction tomorrow or Saturday when I'm by a computer.

5-7, with some tough close losses. We lose one we shouldn't have, and win one we weren't expected to. We are playing our best at the end of the season which brings hype and a very solid recruiting class.

Can I play?

at Washington - L 37-24
Howard - W 42-10
New Mexico - W 28-22
Iowa - L 24-17
at Ohio State - L 45-16
Michigan - L 28-20
Illinois - W 34-33
at Minnesota - L 31-17
Indiana - W 41-39
at Michigan State - L 20-17
Penn State - L 24-20
at Maryland - W 37-31

Final record: 5-7
Big 10 record: 3-6

I'd love to be "pie-in-the-sky," however, our complete lack of experience at LB, the obvious issues and indecision at QB, and the injuries to 2 key members of the D, keep me from doing so:

@ Wash L 41-20
Howard W 49-6
New Mexico W 27-24
Iowa L 38-17
@ OSU L 35-10
Michigan L 42-6
@ Minn L 20-17
Illinois W (breaking the 4-year Flood HC dumpster fire series) 27-24
@ MSU L 27-10
Indiana L 28-24
PSU W (this is an "upset"..don't say "well if we can beat them why can't we beat ....?") 20-17
@ Maryland L 20-10 unfortunately we come down following the huge home "W"

Final Record 4-7

@ Wash L 28-21
Howard W 55-6
New Mexico W 35-10
Iowa W 24-21
@ OSU L 38-14
Michigan L 31-13
@ Minn W 21-17
Illinois W 20-10
@ MSU L 24-14
Indiana W 35-17

PSU- W 30-17 Pandemonium in Piscataway Part II

Going bowling- 7-5

Rutgers has a 5-7 record with wins against Howard,New Mexico,Illinois,Indiana, and Maryland. There will be blowout losses to Washington,Ohio State,Michigan and Michigan State. The results are dependent on the performances at quarterback and the defensive line.

September 3: at WASHINGTON Upset WIN (1-0)
September 10: HOWARD W scrimmage win (2-0)
September 17: NEW MEXICO close win as we over look the them (3-0)
September 24: IOWA Home field advantage. WIN (4-0)
October 1: at OHIO STATE Lose closer then spread (4-1)
October 8: MICHIGAN October 15: ILLINOIS< games linked
If we win the first we mentally /emotionally fall off & lose the next. (old Rutgers
If we lose the first we bounce back with the second (5-2) )< Ash factor do we win both then new era will be here !
October 22: at MINNESOTA very close upset but a win (6-2) We love opposite's Homecoming game for upsets
November 5: INDIANA Home advantage (7-2)
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE home & coach advantage (7-3)
November 19: PENN STATE Franklin's second to last game at PoSU (8-3)
November 26: at MARYLAND Too many unknowns at this point (8-3 +?) < at this point who cares we exceeded expectations :)

4-8. Rebuilding but the future looks bright and we get better and better in 2017,2018 and beyond.

@ Wash L
Howard W
New Mexico W
Iowa L
@ OSU L
Michigan L
@ Minn L
Illinois W
@ MSU L
Indiana W
PSU L (sadly)
@ Maryland L

4-8. But way more competitive against the big boys: fewer and less drastic blowouts and no quitting. Close losses to PSU and Maryland, and a near-upset of one of the big boys.

A way more coherent and aggressive defense. Huge strides in passing D.

Early hiccups with the adjustment to the new power-spread on O, but looking sharper as the year goes on and playing significantly better in Game 12 than Game 1. O looks more energized, creative and crisper than last year.

Record and performance are enough to generate optimism and keep the momentum going with recruiting, which is what the season is all about.

3-9. Only blowout will be vs. Michigan because JH is a dick and will run it up.

Since we now have the one and only prediction thread, I will try to do this one without the Scarlet glasses on.

September 3: at WASHINGTON L 35-21 I do think we have more of a shot then most give credit for but on the road across country, is tough.
September 10: HOWARD W 42-6 they find a way to score. Not sure if Ash has the GS?Flood tendency to call off the dogs or the UM way which is destroy them with no mercy.
September 17: NEW MEXICO W 27-14
September 24: IOWA L 28- 14
October 1: at OHIO STATE L 41-17
October 8: MICHIGAN L GDI - I want to win this one more than any other 35-20
October 15: ILLINOIS W 24-17
October 22: at MINNESOTA L 31-24
November 5: INDIANA W 40-31
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE L 38-17
November 19: PENN STATE W 21 - 10
November 26: at MARYLAND W 28-27

6-6 with a bowl

Long time lurking, First time poster.
Figured this was a good place to make my first post at the beginning of a new season.

September 3: at WASHINGTON L (Close game, beat the spread)
September 10: HOWARD W (Blow Out)
September 17: NEW MEXICO W (Not close)
September 24: IOWA L (Close game)
October 1: at OHIO STATE L (Blow Out)
October 8: MICHIGAN W (Hopefully, but not likely)
October 15: ILLINOIS W (Not Close)
October 22: at MINNESOTA W (Very Close)
November 5: INDIANA W (Not close)
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE L (Not Close)
November 19: PENN STATE W (very Close)
November 26: at MARYLAND L (Unfortunate letdown at end of regular season)

Final regular season record 7-5 or 6-6 depending on the Michigan Game.

September 3: at WASHINGTON loss
September 10: HOWARD win
September 17: NEW MEXICO win
September 24: IOWA win (big upset)
October 1: at OHIO STATE loss
October 8: MICHIGAN loss
October 15: ILLINOIS win
October 22: at MINNESOTA loss
November 5: INDIANA win
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE loss
November 19: PENN STATE win
November 26: at MARYLAND loss

So, that makes it 6-6 overall, 4-5 B1G
I'd say that's best case scenario, includes home wins over Iowa and Penn State.

3-9....going to be a rough year 1.

I'd love to be wrong. A huge underdog to a 7-6 team is telling. How many games will we be favored in?

September 3: at WASHINGTON L
September 10: HOWARD W
September 17: NEW MEXICO W
September 24: IOWA L
October 1: at OHIO STATE L
October 8: MICHIGAN L
October 15: ILLINOIS W
October 22: at MINNESOTA L
November 5: INDIANA W
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE L
November 19: PENN STATE W
November 26: at MARYLAND W

6-6

September 3: at WASHINGTON L 27-10
September 10: HOWARD W 41-7
September 17: NEW MEXICO W 34-31
September 24: IOWA L 26-16
October 1: at OHIO STATE L 42-14
October 8: MICHIGAN L 34-21
October 15: ILLINOIS W 37-34, OT
October 22: at MINNESOTA L 31-23
November 5: INDIANA W 34-24
November 12: at MICHIGAN STATE L 33-13
November 19: PENN STATE W 17-13
November 26: at MARYLAND W 27-21

6-6, birth in a bowl game like Heart of Dallas or something...win a few close games...

I'd take 5-7 if competitive, remove the Flood incompetence stench, build optimism to next season, and beat PSU. That to me counts as 3 wins.

3-9....going to be a rough year 1.

I'd love to be wrong. A huge underdog to a 7-6 team is telling. How many games will we be favored in?

The reason Rutgers is a huge underdog is primarily because they are not treating Washington as a team that was 7-6 last year.
