The problem many of you are having

Oh, so everyone knows this. OK. So if the NIL sneaker and multimedia deals are not Rutgers related, why didn't Ace & Dylan get those deals and then also get NIL money from boosters at other schools? Because they love Rutgers and Pike, you say?

Oh, and Trilly Donovan says that the RU NIL deal involved Goldman Sachs. What did everyone who knows about this tell you about that?
Very few people seem to know more than some vague info. I read this board everyday and to me it’s still not fully clear what the arrangement is. Certainly no one who covers the team has reported it. But that goes for all teams/players

2 of the 3 top recruits are playing at ru in this era of millions of dollars of nil when they could have gone anywhere and topped off their non school related sneaker and media endorsements with additional millions. i’m sure there’s good reason to keep the information from going public, but you can bank on the fact that both players got tons of ru related nil. perhaps ru nil was tapped out or close to it for the rest of the roster, or perhaps Pike just didn’t spend it wisely on the transfers, thinking they were perfect compliments to the big 2. We just don’t know the story. i’m tired of reading about rutgers had no nil and our fans are cheap. Did you see the 2 superstars playing for rutgers this week? jwill? somerville? grant? dortch? i’m sure they’re here only because they all love Rutgers and Pike. The roster build is on Pike, stop feeling sorry for him.

That’s been my take too.

Jeez, so many dumb comments, it's like people thinks that maturity and consistency just happens, it takes time and hard work, there are some positive signs from the 3 games in LV, we rebounded better, we scored the ball in all three games, Harper had a great tournament, Ace had a double double against A&M, he shot selection was much improved, progress at the center position, JWill showed some positive signs. We were within five points of a top ten team, 4 pts. Off a top 20 team.
This tournament was big boy basketball, we need to be more consistent, still committing to many dumb turnovers, we need to figure out how to close out a good top 10/20 team, what are we going to run end of game, who's going to have the Ball in their hands, who takes the shots. (then you need to execute)
There a crap load to of work to be done yet, as good as Ace and Dylan are they have never played top 10, 20 college teams with very good opposing coaches. As long as the team embraces the challenge and continues to grow and improve we have a chance to be a top 25 team, but it won't be tomorrow.

We’re on a private fan board that costs money. I have no idea who contributes to nil and who doesn’t. But we are probably the people who care and donate. I suspect it’s people who aren’t here who need to be engaged. I wonder about the numbers.

As someone who donates (within my limited means), it definitely sticks in my craw to listen to morons who don't contribute that have super high expectations and then complain about everything when their stupid expectations aren't met.
The more money people donate, the more level headed (most of the time) they are when discussing athletics and Rutgers as a whole, that's what I have learned.

Or maybe the causality goes the other way...fair people expect to have to contribute for things they want, so they contribute to RU's success. And since they are fair they have reasonable expectations.

No one has ever said which 5 was going to come here to play maybe 20 mins and potentially get beat out by a star freshman and a promising returner.

Umm, I don't know about you but it costs me nothing (per my choice) to participate on this board. Actually I expect that most posters on here do not contribute to the athletic department nor to NIL and are not season ticket holders. I do all three.

My experience is that the overwhelming majority of people with the financial resources to spend large amounts of money on entertainment (large being loosely defined as over 100K per year) are not the sort of people who typically discuss their finances or their specific financial decisions (such as donations) on the internet. Or discuss it anywhere, really, other than with financial advisors, accountants or lawyers.

In some cases, particularly large donations become public (e.g. when donating funds for a named construction project, or when institutions feel compelled to publicize a particularly large donation). But I know people who, like me, refuse to donate any amount to anything unless it can be done relatively anonymously (relatively because the IRS will know in cases where it has tax implications).

Because, even for small donations, people get chased to the end of the earth by the receiving entity forever. And for large donations, you get chased to the end of the earth by everybody everywhere for eternity. Which sucks.

Seems like it'd be hard to say how level-headed such people are because nobody knows who they are (or how many).

That's because (inheritances and such aside) the people who actually amass the kind of money to donate significantly are more level headed in general. The people on the board screaming about how WE MUST DEMAND EXCELLENCE after every loss or bad play are just doing a cheap imitation of what they think successful people act like.

While I completely agree that fans who whine about the fanbase demanding excellence are not being level-headed, I don't think there's a strong correlation between level-headedness and amassed wealth. We probably all know examples of very wealthy individuals who don't behave in ways that most would describe as level-headed.

E.g., Woody Johnson.

Inheritances and creatives/athletes (authors, performers) aside, IMO the only common thread among people that amass a lot of money is that they really really care about money.

So I think I mostly agree with you here and my original post was too hasty and too much of a generalization.

That said, I still maintain there are a lot of people on these boards that are basically cosplaying as “successful people” and that they are overwhelmingly the people posting “DEMAND EXCELLENCE!1!1!1!1!1!!!11112222” type nonsense.

Inherited a fortune and has not contributed to society other than all the things one gets appointed to when you are uber rich. He can take credit for all the joy the Jets bring to their fans.

Give up expectations, laugh at the fact that this was a whole new, sick, Rutgers sports kick in the balls you didn’t expect, and just watch the season knowing this is only an NIT team

That’s great except they’re both one and done.
