The PSU Lion "roar" and bags into stadium

wrong. at Gate E it wasn't just "no pocketbooks" it was no wristlets, which is specifically in their bag policy as an OK item to bring in. It was no NFL type clear bags with a strap, which is again, in their policy as OK. as stated by RU and PSU fans above, consistency is what the problem was.

You tell 'em!

Wait until you play a typically good Michigan team (you haven't yet) and have to listen to countless renditions of "Hail to the Victors" while they're grinding you.
Oh god!! Haven't thought of that yet.

I don't mind Hail to the Victors at UM but the pom poms during it are the worst. The pom poms just never stop.

@MrsScrew I thought of your group during the game and was glad you had mentioned how large your group was and where you were. I could definitely see the red spot in the first few rows on the 20 behind the RU bench. Was thinking about wandering over but then the rain started.

@kjb32812 we were most definitely not in the first few rows...we were in Row 80-83...which was quite the workout to get to!

funny you don't like the pom pom at UM but you mind the pom poms...which were rampant at the game Saturday! ( I was totally impressed by the student section...from showing up to the songs to the movement.)

If we had shut down their offense, or spent more time scoring our own points, I don't know we would have heard as much roaring.

Sort of like the Temple Owl Screech the last time we played them. Though aurally a nuisance it didn't bother me much. Good thing we are not going to Philly this year

I also thought your group was the red patch behind the Rutgers bench.... Who was down there? 80-83 was pretty far up! I should talk, I was in Row 95!!!!

Yeah, our student section rocks. Glad I didn't go over then if it wasn't you all. Luckily, aren't any pom poms where I sit.

That little patch is part of the visiting team allotment. Most schools use it for players parents and other officials. It was just very noticible this week.

I like the Lion roar! I like the Owls screech! NC State Wolfpack howl is cool. Always thought RU should have Knights horns! Makes college football fun.

My wife got in with a wristlet but of course she was wearing blue. But you are right in that if your going to post rules, at least follow them.

I walk. ALOT!! Yesterday my legs were sore. I think the three trips up to row 81 were a major contributor.

The wristlet thing was more than puzzling. I mean Gina's was pretty much a wallet. She just happened to be carrying it. She walked back out as you suggested and just put it in her back pocket and sure enough, no problem. Probably a bit of unnecessary harassment from a douche security guard.

I was in NJU row 85 and there seemed to be lot of players' families around us. We were right next to Lumpkin's parents and directly behind Cioffi's family. Pretty surprised they didn't have better seats.

Gate E was a nightmare, and half of the gates were closed. Took a long time to get in. The workers seemed overwhelmed.

Having been to enough games there I learned bags are a no no because they don't follow their own policy. However, outside of bags, they don't pay much attention at all. I walked in with four bottles of water in my pockets and nobody cared. Meanwhile, they were about to strip search a women who tried to put a bottle in her purse. She pleaded it was for medication but they weren't having it.

Creepy and sad. Glad I missed that.

So If I put up a "Remember Ray Gricar" memorial would the PSU powers that be tolerate that also?

every stadium has a bag policy listed online. here's the one from psu which clearly states that wristlets are allowed as are commercial 1 gallon sized clear bags with handles.

I actually had a printed out policy with me that I showed the security guard. He didn't care or even look at it. What bothered me more was seeing the same exact bag being carried around inside the stadium.....

like I said, I emptied my stuff into my gallon zip lock bag and put other stuff in my hoodie pouch and then folded up the bag and put it in the back of my pants. once I got inside I just took out the bag and put all my stuff in it. I did the same thing in Arkansas where they have a total no bag policy.

the craziness of Gate E (at about 7:30pm)...

Exactly - that's when I went over to Gate D and got right in (after my journey back to the car with the bags). I should have used my sweatshirt pouches and stuffed the Rutgers clear bag into my pants..... That bald security guard probably would have tackled me inside the stadium once I took out my bag though......

I guess it's just me. I didn't mind the lion roar or the Pom-Pom thing ( which I thought was neat). But the singing and swaying to the multiple show tune type songs that were played I found weird. (kind of cultist). I tried to imagine the RU student section singing like that but decided they would probably just drown out the songs with a chorus of boos.

FWIW, the animals most commonly referred to as "panthers" are differently-colored jaguars or leopards, unless it's a Florida Panther (mountain lion subspecies).

Anyway, why would security not allow clear bags if they can plainly see that there's no contraband inside? Why have size limits, anyway? Unlike an airline, there's no limited storage space and nickel-and-dime checking fees to avoid.

Actually, I was also annoyed with them using music from my favorite Broadway play on third-down situations.....

You should get to know your cats...
ARE MOUNTAIN LIONS, COUGARS AND PANTHERS ALL THE SAME ANIMAL?
YES! The American lion's scientific name is Puma concolor, and is sometimes referred to as "the cat of many names." The scientific name was changed from "Felis concolor" in recent decades. Mountain lions once ranged more extensively than any other mammal in the Western Hemisphere. Historically they could be found anywhere from the Canadian Yukon to the Straits of Magellan — over 110 degrees in latitude — and from the Atlantic seaboard to the Pacific Ocean. As a result, each native tribe and group of European explorers gave the cat a different name.

Exactly right......security says "you can't bring the water bottles in" even though they have not been opened (which you can do at Rutgers Stadium) so me being an idiot throw my water bottle into the trash. We get into the stadium and my buddy has his water bottle. He put it in his jacket pocket. I wish I was that smart!!.....lol

The parents have been seated in the corner of the end zone, on the lower level at every other opponent in the last 3 years we have been going to games. We have quite a few older parents and grandparents that struggled to walk up the stairs. It wasn't good.

That use to be where the seats were. For next time if you know someone with mobility issues they do have a shuttle that will drive them up to the seats or they can request ADA seating.

I thought the RU fans were extremely spread out. I was on a sideline (home side) so I couldn't see if we had an entire section on our side. I was across from the red pocket behind the RU bench. After that, could barely see any red.

There were a few thousand of us somewhere in the stratosphere up to your right.

The cat noise is supposed to be maddening to the opposition and their fans. I remember it at Giants Stadium the night Graber got in Joe Pa's face.
How they piped in that sound for our home game I'll never know, but they did. I wanted to shoot myself.

O.M.G. I totally forgot about that. YES.. annoying as hell being treated as 2nd class at your own "home" game.

Then again, maybe that is why we didn't end up playing Notre Dame at giants Stadium. We know they wanted control of half the seats and boxes and so on... maybe they wanted other concessions (akin to the cat noise) as well. Maybe Penn State got the sweetheart deal from the state employees who then ran the Meadowlands... was it Mulcahy?
