The Yard @ College Avenue Restaurants Announced

Ah. Maybe the sellers just tend to declare bankruptcy. Gonna be interesting in a couple of decades when electric cars are the norm and you have all of these abandoned gas stations out there on prime corners with a ton of cleanup needed.

I see you've moved on to "a couple decades" and "the norm" now. Smart man :sunglasses:

Oops, missed the date. Looks like you moved in the wrong direction. Not so smart ... Either one of us!

Saw in my Facebook news feed today- Surf Taco announces they're coming to the Yard and changed their pic to the Block R. Huge amount of likes. Awesome!

Both The Yard and the new Academic Building open up this summer? Can't wait.

When is the next step (tearing down Brower, building new quad) going to commence?

unfortunately not my jurisdiction....I am hopeful as you all are I believe it is a solid plan by the university

Cofifa, what is Devco's jurisdiction? My impression is that Devco does projects in the city of New Brunswick, but not on the Rutgers campus itself. Am I right?

No a bit tongue in cheek response by me . We are completing TheYard@CollegeAve which is land owned by Rutgers , actually trustee land . We only venture where invited so at the moment we are not involved in any master plan projects . We have completed two large projects in Newark and are currently readying a project in Atlantic City

Cofifa, some people on the sports boards think that Devco has all kinds of money that can be used to finance, say, new sports facilities on the Rutgers campus. Is that really true?

No ... We do not back in the Schiano era we worked with Athletics in an effort to access subsidy programs but in a JH world that interest Slipped

But maybe in a Pat Hobbs' world somebody puts rock salt down to stop the "slipping"?

And nice job getting Pete Cancro on board.

My understanding is that the electrical plant behind records needs to move almost immediately, so probably this calendar year.

My understanding is that once the computer labs in Records Hall are migrated to the new SAS building, that will allow Records Hall to come down in the first step to redo the Brower/Stonier/Records Hall Complex- which I guess means that they can start the underground garage / transit stop on George...

When will this officially open? Will all the restaurants debut at the same time or that will be staggered throughout Summer?

Students will move in Labor Day
We are hopeful that the restaurants will open in early August

Move in day already sounds crazy. Are they planning on forcing people to park in the nearby lot and walk?

Bumping this thread up with the news that Bella’s Burgers closed (and the constant closing/reopening of Starbucks). I'm not surprised about Bella's, as the food at The Yard was bad compared to the Basking Ridge location, which was good but nowhere near as good as Shake Shack and I wouldn't seek it out if I had a burger craving.

Bella's decor left a lot to be desired also.

There's a burger place across from Brother Jimmys and rumors of another opening in the NJ BOOKS location. Supposedly a burger place-a frozen yogurt place-a middle easter place ( think I've seen all of those before ). I believe there is a connection between Shake Shack and a prominent RU booster.

What burger place would want the huge space that is NJ Books...or are you saying 3 different restaurants will open in it (burger, froyo and middle eastern)?

Shake Shack CEO is Randy Garutti, son of prominent Rutgers donors Ron and Joanna Garutti.

It’s all about the name...which was wrong. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes, NJ BOOKS divided into thirds. With another 500 beds coming to Hamilton/Easton ( old FIJI ) there will be a high concentration of mouths to feed. Would be nice to get a Raferty's/Teresa's type place or a sit down breakfast place like PSU Waffle Shop or Princetons PJ Pancakes House

I was in town yesterday and happy to see activity at the NJ Books site. Hopefully those new food options do well.

I wonder what rent is at The Yard. I never tried Bella's but sounds like they weren't a great option. So many options there you have to be able to stand out in your niche.
