Threads bashing players

Almost all my posts are very positive as I haven't been this excited about a team or program here possibly ever but I don't want the board to be a place where only positive things can be said and anything negative is censored. You just simply can't have a good basketball discussion if no one is allowed to point out anything but positives.

IMO if I'm a player on this team reading the boards I'm thrilled with how pumped the fan base is about the team

Absolutely. I agree. We have all seen highly negative post targeting one player on here.

When you make a post with just one name, that draws attention and players read this site.

Thiam was not too bad as most of it was constructive. We all know that is not always the case all the time. That is what I am talking about.

Sorry, but 95% of that thread was pro issa and wanting him to shoot more. If that's bashing then we've reached another all time high in over sensitivity.

If him reading it makes him feel that we want him to shoot more and gives him confidence to ... WONDERFUL.

Now starting a thread TO bash a player...that I don't get.

I call it like I see it. It’s not that I personally dislike the player if they make a dumb play or stupid foul or try to play hero ball and ruin the momentum.

I have no idea what the individual player is like as a human being and that should have no bearing on a post about him making a dumb basketball play. I think it’s within anybody’s rights on a FAN board to post about that play.

As mentioned, I agree that is was mostly very constructive. In the past we have seen those same post turn to shit storms.

Bashing and critiquing are 2 different animals. That said I have seen on this board some posters critiquing a player but the manner in which they critique often makes the comments come across as bashing. Glad to say it is not done on the BB board as much as it is BEING done on FB board

Sometimes I don’t understand the mindset on these boards. But things seem better now than they were under the prior administration. I still recall the first time I came to a player’s defense back in 2011. Someone on this board posted that a student athlete, who was a really fine kid and a decent basketball player, was a “mental midget.“ I went to the premium board and, without naming the offending poster, posted that this was a “classless post.” After the original poster whined, my post was removed as violative of the rules, even though the administrators had not removed the “mental midget“ post. I hope these administrators continue to compel civility when we discuss the students just as they compel civility when we disagree with each other. No matter how much we might become disappointed in their performance, none of them deserve to be called names because of it.

Richie has posted forum rules for several forums--including the CE forum. Among them is a proscription against attacking players. He hasn't posted rules for this board yet, but assume if he gets around to it, the rules will specifically say, no attacking players. Just common sense, since we know the forum is widely read.

I don't give a flying f&*k if kids and their parents read these boards. You think Kentucky fans are fawning over everybody? Only between signing day and opening night. Be real, people. Awww, Corey read a thread that wasn't nice. Sniffle, sniffle. Stop the damn whining.

We all know when a thread is over-the-top bashing. It's pretty clear. But do NOT sign a letter of intent with a major-conference program and expect people to throw roses at your feet if you commit stupid fouls, turn the ball over, don't play hard, or whatever the transgression du jour is.

And don't forget, this board has fallen in love with players who pretty much suck because they played hard. So it works in reverse, too. AND SO DOES ALMOST EVERY OTHER FAN BASE ON EARTH. Stop acting like we're so awful because we have had DECADES without a tournament appearance and are a little cranky about it.

I think we -- and parents and kids and current players -- know the difference between a negative critique and an attack.
