- The most important tidbit: Who the hell is Stephen Austin? Via research, he is the father / founder of Texas settling there in 1825.. And its capital, Austin, TX is named after him.

- SF Austin plays in the Southland Conference. In the last 11 years, they have won 6 regular season titles; 5 conference tourneys and have played in 5 NCAA Tournaments. 5 NCAA TOURNAMENTS IN 11 YEARS....They're the Iona of the Southland Conference...:)

- Actually with a personal tidbit, I witnessed SF Austin several years ago defeat WVU in the opening round at Barclays and then lose to Notre Dame by a point. They were good!

- Brad Underwood was their coach per the above who then moved to Ok State and now at Illinois.

- Currently, SFA is 4-0 with wins over NC Central (94-64); Niagara (89-80) and Drexel (82-67).

- After our game, SFA plays at Duke.

- There is a guy on their roster named Charlie Daniels. The Devil went down to Georgia...:)

- Current HC is Kyle Keller who is 60-38 in 3 years who succeeded Brad Underwood.

- They are a 4 headed scoring machine highlighted by Kevin Harris;John Comeaux; Gavin Kensmil and Cameron Johnson - who all score in healthy double digits.

- They shoot FT's well and don't go nuts with 3 PT FG's.

Me thinks a very difficult game.....

they lead the nation in forcing TOs so far and play at a very fast pace. I’m assuming they full court press nearly all game but confess to not having seen them yet this year.

As a matter of fact, they play very little full court press. What they do is play a man to man overplay defense with zone concepts. Which means if a ball goes to an area beyond the defender, help defense comes and the original defender switches. They will invite the ball into corners and trap on occasion. For those who say they've played nobody, that is true, however, SFA led both Drexel and Niagara by more than 20 points before the deficit was closed in garbage time. SFA forced 31 Drexel turnovers, Rutgers turned over Drexel 12 times.

They probably also lead the nation in playing opponents that turn it over.

Game 1 La Tourneau (analysis stops there)
Game 2 1-3 UNCC--- afterplaying SFA they turned it over 28 times vs SC Upstate
Game 3 0-4 Niagara---we turned them over 17X and blew them out
Game 4 2-3 Drexel--ranked 344th in TO%,19 Tos vs Niagara, 24 vs Albeline Christian

Interesting in that their opponents have had the 8th fastest possessions in the country (out of 355 teams) and their own offense has had the 67th fastest possessions. Shots (or turnovers) have tended to happen very early in the shotclock on both ends of the court in SFA games this season.

First play will be a missed layup

Vegas odds
Odds of a lob attempt during the 1st 2 possessions 3 to 2
Odds of a successful lob during 1st 2 possessions 3 to 1

Odds of Rutgers having more assists than turnover 2 to 3

Odds of SFA winning 25 to 1

From what I understand, Austin had been in Texas a long time before large numbers of Americans migrated in. Many of them wanted to go to war with Mexico and break away. Austin was trying to avoid bloodshed against a fairly organized army of Mexico. He went down to Mexico City to try to talk with Santa Anna. He was hoping for more freedoms for Texans, not a complete break to form a new country. They threw him in jail for a couple years where he developed health issues. When he got back to Texas, people didn’t recognize him because he had aged quickly while imprisoned. He knew by the time he got back to Texas that the inevitable was coming.

Austin knew Schiano was coming back?

A fast pace might favor Jacob Young. Look for him (and possibly Mathis) to have a breakout game.

A four headed scoring machine that beat Niagara this year 89-80
Niagara, as a team, shot 55.6% from the floor and still lost. They were down 21 at the four minute break and cut the deficit in garbage time. Drexel was down 23 with 1:30 left, hit a bucket and 2 threes to make it a 15 point game. They shot 50% for the game.
