Thanks.

I know nothing about wrestling but obviously hope RU does well.

Just based on the rankings, it would appear that of 10 matches, RU has a good shot at winning 4 of them. I guess if RU can win those 4 matches where the RU wrestler is ranked well above the Iowa wrestler, and if RU can somehow get ONE upset ... that makes a close match, as long as the other RU wrestlers do not get destroyed.

It is crazy that Iowa has wrestlers in FIVE of ten weight categories ranked in the top 4 nationally of their weight.

I put up a post earlier about how difficult the BIG wrestling schedule is. As much as we talk about the football eastern division being rough, almost half of the top 25 national rankings are in our conference.

Where is the dinner? I can flash signs if it's close to my house. ;-)

Iowa will get bonus points in about 4 bouts, RU will be fortunate to get bonus in 2 bouts. I expect Iowa to win by 15 points or more, but hoping for an upset or 2. Wrestling at Iowa is more difficult than anywhere else. Their coach is a nut, who gets their team to wrestle 'The Iowa Way' ,which means being overly aggresive, head slaps , push out of bounds, cross faces, etc. Won't be easy for RU but RU is wrestling at it's peak right now.

Can you guys run results ITT please? The Iowa wrestling board is one of the best in the entire Rivals network but I would rather follow it here.

Kj Abro posted ru wrestling twitter link should have updates there. By he way u guys got a nj stud in Soriano

This class is shaping up to be pretty sick. Probably not DT/Ruth sick unless we land Lee, but pretty damn good.

Ashnault beat Topher Carton but didn't major. Won 8-4. That's a disappointing result when compared to Iowa's ranked guys who preceded Ash. RU trails 9-3.

Now down 14-3. Guys are getting their asses kicked in early rounds, losing by big scores.

In a bad surprise, our #17 ranked Richie Lewis was upset 6-4 by unranked Iowa wrestler. RU trails 17-3. The rout is on. Don't know if it's fatigue, intimidation or just a bad night, but not a good showing so far.

Nick Gravina got outscored 8-2 in 3rd period to lose to #8Brooks 11-5. Iowa up 23-6

Iowa wrestlers have dominated most of the third periods

In a fitting ending to a very disappointing evening #6 Billy Smith was upset 3-1 by a takedown in OT

Final : Iowa 29-RU 6

A victory over #2 Iowa was not expected but this was a poor showing. Perhaps there were lessons learned. RU wrestlers faded late; Iowa clearly dominated the last round of almost every match. The two RU wins were by their best wrestlers, but neither earned bonus points over lesser opponents. Two of RU's ranked grapplers were upset by lower ranked guys.
Hopefully, they will regain their energies and feed off of the home crowd in a very tough match against #4 Nebraska this weekend

Yeah, I obviously wasn't watching the matches but not a very good showing by RU. The best part of this dual might be that it wasn't at home.

'The Iowa Way ". They push, dominate and get physical. At their home arena, they are even more confident. I wasn't able to watch as i was at a business dinner, but was able to follow on RU Wrestling twitter. I wasn't surprised by anything. Not from no bonus points from AA or AP nor Smith losing. Carver is a damn tough place to wrestle well for the away team, and our team although improved, is still far away from Iowa, as is the everbody else besides Penn St and Nebraska, and maybe Ok St and NC St. RU's ranking will drop by 5-8 spots this week ,if Nebraska is a similiar result.

We have to learn to play with a lead in all of our sports. We have yet to establish a culture of winning (I say this primarily as a football and basketball fan), and playing with a lead is a learned thing. There are different psychologies involved in playing with a lead and playing from behind. We don't have the killer instinct that elite teams have, and it's frustrating to watch in other sports, too. Wrestling will get there, and I think Coach Ash will change the mentality of the football team to one that wants to crush rather than keep things close, but for some reason this match upset me. I didn't expect to win, I just didn't expect to see us get throttled like that (I thought a 15-point loss was about right).

Hopefully the Nebraska match at home will help us get closer to a destroy-the-opponent mentality.

Also, Abro, they've (Iowa posters) responded to a post or two of yours over there since the match ended. Nothing nasty.

Wrestling is really crazy because the difference between #1 and #10 is generally pretty big. I think this just shows that you guys need to recruit more talent. The good thing is that NJ has two of the T5 HS wrestling teams in the country. If you click the weight links, I think you'll be encouraged by just how much talent is in NJ and right across the bridge in PA. I'm really looking forward to watching your program over the next five years. I think you will become quite a handful and become one of the best in the entire country.

I kinda knew the difference between #1 and #10 would be similar to what it is in football, but wanted to at least keep this one respectable. Brand has installed in his wrestlers a "bloodthirsty" mentality, and these guys already come into his program with aggression. But as a Rutgers fan, knowing that the talent in all sports is right here in our back yard, it is tough to see us have to wait another two or five or ten years for the culture to change. Our entrance into the B1G has forced our hand, which Barchi finally got on board with after the media beatdowns, but we still have to be patient. Of all the programs I am excited about (football, women's soccer, and wrestling), wrestling has captured my attention in a big way. I hope we keep it close against Nebby this Saturday, but I don't know how much of a toll it takes on wrestlers to have matches two days apart.
