Tonight's game is almost sold out (not really but that's what RU wants us to think)

As the home opener approaches, ponder this. Is Rutgers full of shi* or is tonight's game really on the verge of being sold out? Just took a quick peek at ticket availability and there are only 314 tickets available for tonight's game, all but two of which are in the 300 level.
Here's why RU is lying and/or shooting itself in the foot, though.

If you try to buy a four-game flex plan with tonight's game as part of it, there are plenty of 200 level seats available. So the question is, why, with the game less than 11 hours away is the athletic department trying to create this false impression that there are so few tickets left? It makes no sense not to release those tickets for single-game sale at this point.

I think season ticket holders were given option of claiming 2 additional free tix for tonight's game. If they claimed them (they're free - why not?) then maybe that contributed to this even if they never actually get used. But no one here probably knows.

I mean...its a tune up against FDU. As long as they are not saying its sold out, who cares. They don't want to sell the 200's as single game tickets.

There were a lot of offers to get free tickets to this game. When you do that, very hard to manage what's left.

RAC Pass has me in Row H in the top corner (307). Somehow I think I'll find something better.

I don't know why you're defending their stupidity. So you just don't even offer unsold tickets for sale? What sense does that make?
They know these games will not draw a ton of interest. They show a new, entertaining product and those people who obtained free tickets will come back. Better that than seats go unfilled. Just what I think.

Yup RAC pass has me in the same section Row D, should be able to find something closer in the 200s & if for some reason we do not, I will be okay with that as well because that means we have a pretty packed house & I might not have been alive the last time an opener would draw that many fans that the 300 levels were actually occupied lol.

It's not hard to manage at all - make the free offer"while supplies last" and sell the tickets if there are buyers.

Is this like when the pizza place won't give you free slices at 3am

there will be 3k in the building with the heavy rain outside, sit anywhere

I would've guessed maybe 4K tops, but the boxscore shows 5521. Awesome turnout for a tune-up game, especially the student section being just about full. Was simply a great, fun night of basketball.

The band filled a third of the student section.Considering the weather the attendance was better than expected and might be higher than Sunday because fans will stay home and watch professional football.
