Don't know exactly where I'd rank this one on the RU pain meter, but it sure was one helluva gut punch, that's for sure. I don't know that I've ever watched a game before where I switched so many times between feeling...OK, we've got this; to: ugh, no we don't; OK, we got this; back to: damn, no we don't, etc., etc.
I think I really got the sense this one wasn't destined to go in the "W" column for us after JG took his 2nd return back to the house and WSU began what would end up being their game winning drive.
Don't remember what down it was, (but it might have been 3rd and long for WSU). The Cougars' QB threw a pass that either Cioffi or Jacobs, (not sure which), went up for and looked like he was going to pick-off, (which might, might have allowed the Knights to run out the clock since there wasn't a whole lotta time left at that point).
Instead of catching it, though, the ball deflected off the RU DB's hands and went about 20 ft. up in the air, and when it came down it didn't go out of bounds or bounce harmlessly on the ground, but ended up in the mits of a WSU receiver for a 24 yd. gain and a drive sustaining 1st down.
Now, had that INT been made would that have been THE thing that finally sealed the deal for a Rutgers victory? -Can't say and clearly we'll never know. ...But when I saw that happen, I couldn't help but wonder, "'Ya know, maybe RU is built on some ancient Indian burial ground".
