Just saw a bleacher report that this past Saturday was the first holding call on tOSU since 2013. Absolutely disgusting, but they're allowed. Their holding in last years game was so flagrant, it was unbelievable. My guess is that when we accepted our B1G spot, we accepted special treatment for tOSU and Michigan. It is what it is.

Will the ref that actually made the call be at our game on Saturday?

Actually it's the first holding call since the 2nd quarter of last week.

The amount of holding that goes on in the B1G is ridiculous. We need to do much more of it.

B1G officials simply don't call holds that have zero effect on the play. If you see a run to the outside, and there is holding on the inside or other side of the field, it's not getting called and I'm 100% fine with it so long as it goes both ways. I've always hated those calls anyway.

We actually had ZERO penalties against Ohio State last year.

I may have the wrong ref, but I remember during a broadcast, this guy made a call against us (he used to be in the Big East), and Ray Lucas said something like, "oh no, it's that guy."

Jerry McGinn. Interesting background on him:

RU Holding has a whole different meaning.

MO

Do more of it. Make them keep calling it. At some point, the disparity in penalties will be a problem for the refs and they will either have to stop calling it on us or start calling it on them.

If they don't, they don't, but playing it straight up when no one else does isn't a great strategy, especially when we are looking at the mother of all upsets.

As long as they call it down the middle, then who cares!

Hopefully, it won't be the same crew from the infamous UM/MSU game, those guys should all be fired.

Pretty sure he didn't write the BR article. I am sure if an OSU fan saw that UM went a whole season without a holding call, that might be a red flag.

I remember watching a football show some years ago and they said that holding could be called on virtually every play. If that is even close to true, you obviously either change what constitutes a hold or, as already mentioned, ignore the ones that were of no importance to the play.

FWIW, that fact only includes B1G games. Ohio State was, in fact, called for holding in non-conference games both in 2014 and 2015. Second, again, that fact is not true. Ohio State was called for holding in the 2nd quarter against Maryland.

Finally, in most of Ohio State's 2014 games, holding was not called at all or called 1 time (with an outlier against MSU, where it was called 4 times on the Spartans). So it's not like they're calling it like crazy against opponents and letting Ohio State get away with something. Unless everyone here thinks Joey Bosa, Adolphous Washington, Michael Bennett and company were easy to block last year.

There are two simple reason for it. Most holding calls are made when the offensive linemen is beat. Ohio state has a very good offensive line so they are likely not to get as many holding calls. Secondly Ohio State uses a different blocking technique. I saw their OL coach at a coaches clinic. He picked up this technique from a small school who had been using it for a couple of years. That school went 2 years with out a holding penalty. Instead of getting extension they are taught to pull the linemen into them. Therefore it hard to see holding. Like everyone has said every play guys are holding. All officials will only call it when it outside the body and effects the play.

the Big ten calls a LOT less holding and lets thm play more than most confrences. get used to it

We did not adjust to this for pac-12 game against Wassu

Maybe Ohio State's offensive line doesn't hold?

Trust me, as an Ohio State fan, I would love if they started calling a *tad* more holding penalties, because our defensive line has been held egregiously on nearly every play this year. Other teams have admittedly gameplanned to hold on every play against us.

Preemptive crying about officiating. The op should be proud. You sound like a ped state fan.
Why would you , a Buckeye fan come on here?...We are insignificant at this point but then again...maybe we're not...monitoring the Rutgers sight is quite funny.
