I do not a 5? I need a 4 , a real old time 4 that can swallow up every defensive rebound and get you 10 points on the offensive glass put backs. I do not need him to be a shooter but that would be a plus. I am talking big physical guy.
this is 2024, if Jwill is your PG and your 5 cant shoot you have Ace and Dylan as only 3 point shooters...

Our 5 can shoot. Somerville can shoot , can hit an 3 occasionally , and drive and dribble . We need a real rebounder that was a huge problem this year and cost us games.
We need another guard that shoot 3’s and can drive and make layups thru contact. Ton of guards like that. Now that Derek is on the portal , Pike can go get one.
Your scouting report says he can shoot. Cliff could also shoot the 3 18 months ago.

It is not a requirement that my 5 shoots threes. He can take them occasionally when open but Latham does so much more as he is the best big man we have ever had that can dribble , with a handle , can drive and make layups , can pull up from 2 and make a jumper and can hit the 3. No Rutgers Big man including James Bailey could do that .
Now that Wolf is in the portal , Pike can go get another 5 that can score , rebound and shoot some threes. Will complement Lathan and Egbole perfectly as a 3 headed monster.

Yes. Old school 4 plus a shooting guard that can make threes. He will split time with JWill and give Dylan the 4-6 minutes of rest per night . Ton of guards that drive and make layups thru contact and hit a three. Doesn’t even need to be a starter but can play many minutes.
Are you saying we do not need an old school 4 rebounder ? Are you saying we do not need another 3 point shooter to help Dylan , Ace and Lathan ? Those are 2 priorities. Now if the old school 4 is and can be a 5 who can score and rebound then we hit gold.
I think that's a recipe for disaster, don't see either one of the freshman being extra special from 3 next year.
UNC went out and got Harrison Ingram as their old school 4 , who is a monster on both boards and can hit a three and they got Cormat Ryan , their 3 point specialist , that we played against at Notre Dame in the NCAA game. They also got Weathers from Louisville for additional rebounding and defense. They are the number 1 seed for a reason. RJ Davis is having an All American season as one of the best guards in the country but I expect Dylan to be really good and ACE to exceed what Ingram has done for UNC. You need the holes in our lineup solved with those 2 priorities. If our 4 can rebound like a monster and also shoot that is a bonus. If our shooting guard can hit 3’s and also finish at the rim , that is an added bonus. But that is the focus of the search

I said he could be a 5 as well that can rebound and score or shoot as well. We have to , absolutely have to correct the 2 year trend of terrible defensive rebounding. You cannot play defense for as hard as we do for 30 seconds then allow an offensive rebound and expect the defense to play well for 50 seconds. That is suicide. I meant old school 4 like a monster rebounder. Today’s 4 and 5 ‘s can hopefully rebound and shoot threes.

How is someone a power forward at 195 pounds? And it looks like a high percentage of that weight is in his neck . . .
There’s some risk involved with Monsanto though. He’s had several major injuries, and apparently wasn’t the same after coming back this season from his most recent injury, a torn left patellar tendon that he suffered in early 2023…
In the 11 games that he was able to play in this season his 3 pt shooting was down to 34.7%…. He shot 17-49 from 3, and 0-1 from 2, and averaged 12.5 minutes a game. His defense wasn’t the same either due to mobility issues, and they had to move him from the 3 position to the 4 because of it, and he wasn’t available for Wake’s last 5 games, allegedly due to knee pain. There still may be a question of whether he can return to the player he was before his most recent serious injury.
Unfortunately a hard pass for this reason. We need a “sure thing” for our shooter spot, not more damaged goods.
