Tulane Shocks USC! Amazing Comeback

What a game !!

But some here think it’s not good because of NIL and opt outs !

disgraceful defensive performance by USC. Moron fumbles the kick return at the 1 yard line and they get a safety right after

It’s Arena football in the 2nd half of these games
And they all come down to the last one and a half minutes, like a basketball game. Our team is doomed to the basement until we have a coach and an offense capable of winning shootouts.

If I’m Riley, I’d see if I could get Leonhard as DC now that he’s left Wisconsin.

You guys pretty stoked to have Rhule?
Question- is Frost worthy to hire as an OC? Asking for a friend's team.
I don’t know if “stoked” is the right word but everybody is happy Frost is gone. Everything was in disarray by the time he got fired. Rhule is very organized and should bring some stability. Unlike Frost and his cronies(except Joseph and Busch) none of them wanted to recruit. A little to much being the players buddies instead of their coaches too. Frost has some series maturity and entitlement issues.

I wouldn’t hire him for an OC job. He certainly has the ability but also a lot of red flags. Him and his wife just bought a $5mil house in Phoenix so I don’t think he is looking. I think he is arrogant enough that he will demand $2mil and only go to a contender if he is looking. He will want it like in Oregon when he was building his name and want total say in what QB’s and receivers are recruited and signed. I think he will take 2 years off before looking. JMO

Definitely has the feel that 40 is the new 20 in scoring now.

Has been that way for over a decade.
Some schools (specifically Rutgers) refuses to accept it.

20.3ppg ranked #113 out of #130.
Look at the scoreboard any given week.
If you don't score at least 20pts then highly unlikely you win.
That's basically the minimum just to start the conversation on winning consistently.

I realized watching USC play Utah that Caleb Williams has USC looking better than they are.
He's best QB by far
He has pocket awareness unlike anything I've seem
Like a lot of people, he can feel a pocket breaking down behind him, but instead of jumping out of the way of a DL by a yard or two he'll move just a few inches while keeping his eye downfield to make a completion.
Guys can do that now and then but he does it all the time
He had 5 TDs today but Tulane averaged 9 yds a carry for 305

Maybe you don't need 100 years to build a decent team

Not sure what the point you are trying to make is, but let's be real. Six years, 2-10 in year 6, and one winning record in the American Conference is shit. People would have been screaming for the HC's head if this was Rutgers. Nice season this year.

Guess you are saying a seven year rebuild is acceptable.

He’s one of the best college QBs ever. He’s that good.

SC needs to buy a defense now.

Seven year rebuild? He won his Conference in his 3rd year. Six wins minimum in 4 of the last 5 seasons.
We would jumping for joy if our illustrious HC won 7 games in his 3rd Year.

You must be joking?
A 3 way tie in the American is something to celebrate? Remember when our "fans" shit all over Flood's shared conference championship in year 1? Oh yeah, that's right, those were Greg's players, and Flood gets no credit for that.
But let's be real-that 2018 Tulane team beat one team with a regular season winning record. Not the stuff of champions.
2-10 in year 6, WTF is that?

RU fans have a tendency to whitewash the crap work of other coaches and celebrate their Pyrrhic victories.

Not all RU fans do that. The guy you quoted loves to hate RU. Travels to away games just to complain. Sad stuff really.

As I said above and you liked, happy for Tulane. Good to see weak teams do it even if their schedule is weak. We just have a steeper hill to climb.

RU#1 Fan is a non-alum, and a long time local fan. The kind of fan we need. I understand his frustration after the years of futility post 2014. He spends his money with no connection to RU, and can understand his need to vent.

I think Tulane's season demonstrates a few things: (1) talent disparity can be overcome by coaching/scheme; (2) 2-10 season is not the end of the world, as long as it is just one in an otherwise good resume (many on this board freak out at the first sign of trouble, but this is the nature of fan message boards; (3) the NIL doom and gloom crowd can tone it down a bit. It is still early. @rutgersal 's thread that RU fans are going to have to be patient is something I vehemently disagree with.

We have the defense in good shape. A good OC and mediocre to good QB performance could get us back to 6-6, and a stepping stone.

While you may not agree, we mostly agree. I'm being whiny/loud about the OC situation, but the delay is understandably frustrating for fans.

Onward/upward.

You vehemently disagree based on what? How should we narrow the talent gap between us and the competition?

This exactly.
A 25 year season ticket holder who never went to RU. Been through the Terry Shea years and have been to many blowouts on the road at West Virginia, V Tech, Miami, and more recently at OSU and Michigan. Also celebrated at all of our Bowl victories since 2006 and watched Bowl losses too (Arizona St, ND, Wake Forest). I am sure I am not alone in being frustrated. Seems like we were given life with Greg 2.0 coming back…not so sure.
