Since when is an obvious loss by rule for all to see not open for Rutgers to challenge by contesting it with the conference?

That's just not a remedy that you tend to get anywhere in sports ever? Rutgers will absolutely bring it up with the conference; I'm sure it will factor into whatever kind of ref evaluation there is. But you don't get games overturned for bad calls, it just isn't a thing.
 
It doesn't really make sense for a basketball game.. there are infinite calls and non-calls throughout the game that all affect the result. Even recognizing a blatant mistake at the end of a game I just can't see how you could ever change a result. The only way I can see it is if a team is found to be cheating or something.

Rules violations or interpretations allow for protesting a game in MLB and some are upheld

Is it cheating to run out of bounds then in to catch a pass and get the opposition to bit cover you because you are not eligible?

No. I don't think there is any grey area here. Going out of bounds and then catching the pass isn't cheating anymore than goaltending, committing fouls, or travelling is.

I think it is more gray because the adaptive response of the other team is to incorporate that you are an incredible receiver of the ball
