Clearly, we don’t have a true, center presence

Okay help me out... which teams on our schedule have a center that will give us problems?
Off the top of my head, in the Big Ten: Indiana, Purdue, MSU maybe, Michigan, maybe, Maryland, ... UCLA brought in a Summit League starting center ...

Out of conference, Alabama (does Omoruyi count?).

But ... if RU is weaker at center, perhaps they are stronger at other positions than some of those teams. You don't always lose just because one position is weaker than than the opposition.

Indiana, Michigan, Maryland, Iowa, Purdue, Oregon, UCLA are the teams that have legitimate threats at C. The others I’m not too worried about, like for as good as Steven Crowl is, it’s not for the reasons I’d be concerned about.

Who is Purdues center? Freshman?

He's a liability for sure. B1G centers will have a field day with him. A lot of issues that what we saw tonight were highlighted by those that pay attention during the offseason.

Unfortunately you had a bunch of suckers that believed Ogbole got way better because of several short clips that the program put out. And they made a bunch of excuses like he was injured most of last year so he'll be better this year. 🤣

Allowing Sommerville to dictate not bringing in a portal center is going to haunt this team. Ogbole should be 5-10 minute center not one that sees 15-20 minutes.
When discussing Ogbole in the off season the talk was that he was able to spend time in the summer developing. It was specifically noted by me and others....."let's wait and see how he develops because he is not injured and can put the work in".

Want the thread linked for you to read it?

Okay ... so ... lots of posts talking about how Ogbole will continue to be a liability - and how this scrimmage "confirms" this.

I post 2 items here:

1) A link to my conclusions, and the entire thread on that subject, after I charted every RU defensive possession vs St. John's: https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/t...ge-every-defensive-possession-charted.283494/.

2) An excerpt from my initial post in that above thread, my paragraph JUST on Ogbole:

"Ogbole was much better than the average fan will think. I will bet you the coaching staff will evaluate Ogbole's game vs St. Johns very differently and much better than the casual fan. For example, I will note that St. John's Ejiofor scored 19 2nd Half points - but other than the 2 minutes BTN+ did not show (during which St. John's scored 4 points), Ejiofor only scored TWO points when Ogbole was in the game ... that's right ... just 2 points. In the 1st half, Ejiofor scored 6 points total, but just 2 points while Ogbole was in the game ... and that FG was when Derkack got caught covering Ejiafor on a switch: Ejiofor posted, missed, got his own miss and put it back in. So ... when Ogbole was in the game, during his 21 minutes of playing time, Ejiofor scored just 4 points (though he may have gotten 4 more in the 2 minutes missing from the BTN+ replay). Ejiofor DID get some offensive rebounds when Ogbole was in the game, but Ejiofor NEVER scored himself off those offensive rebounds - Ogbole successfully contested and prevented the put back. I am not saying Ogbole is a star. nor that he did not make mistakes. But I am convinced upon charting the game that Ogbole was MUCH better than I thought initially. I would add that Ogbole reliably ran the floor in transition, on both offense and defense - and never got beaten down the floor by his man, and several times beat HIS man down the floor on offensive transition. As a sub-commentary: Ogbole showed more often than not he knew where to be defensively (not perfect, but relatively solid, IMO). Still, Ogbole DOES have a lot to learn - not trying to minimize that."

Ogbole is not necessarily where I hoped he would be, true enough. Was not quite as strong rebounding as I had hoped. But he HAS improved, performed credibly (even if he needs to continue to improve), and is NOT clearly a liability - not yet shown, at least. Ogbole was NOT the problem with either the post defense or the lack of offensive rebounding vs St. Johns.

Ogbole will be better simply bc he will be fully healthy with a full off season for someone newer to the sport

The question will be how much has and will he develop

We just need him to be able to score 5 ft and in, set massive screens, protect the rim, and rebound
