LOL!He really needs some work on that throwing motion. Maybe take a year to work on that before throwing him into the fire as well.
Only a person very close to the situation would be able to determine this. The Sooner we move away from Laviano and Rettig, the better. Initially, you spot Oden, but by mid-season he's the starter. Bring in Lewis the following year, and the beat goes on.
Btw, both Laviano and Rettig are redshirts, and it didn't help them one iota.
I don't disagree. All things being equal, having Oden mature along with the rest of team seems more efficient. If next year is going to be a throwaway year, I would much rather throw it away towards the future than dealing with a 10 lbs bulkier Oden with 0 game experience next year leading to possibly another throwaway year, that is if Oden can prove himself to the coaching staff to be "at least" on par during the summer camp.
Based on the early success of Ash's 2017 recruiting thus far, I suspect we will see even more talented dual threat QBs rolling through here in the next few years so I think the need to redshirt Oden is somewhat overrated. To be lethal, this offense needs a QB who is a "constant" running threat, not just a QB who is "mobile" when he needs to be.
I was in the same boat as you, with respect to thinking Rettig can't run. But after one of his runs in the Spring game, I changed my mind. Nobody's mistaking either Laviano or Rettig for a Braxton Miller or a J.T. Barret. But they have shown an ability to make yards beyond the LOS when the yards are there to take.our offense won't work as well without a run threat at QB - unfortunate but true. You can't run a read offense if the edge guys on defense don't have to worry about overcommitting to the handoff. Its a thin line between the quarterback being able to turn the edge and get up field and him getting blown up because he is a step slow.
I seriously don't think Rettig can do it. To me, its between Laviano and Gio. Two italian guys competing for the rutgers qb position, amazing lol

I may linked wrong article. My badThere are only 5 listed.
Go look up savages HS stateHis passing stats are underwhelming which makes me think he is very raw.
LOL!
Sorry, didn't mean that to sound like "the little lights aren't twinkling, Clark." Just was wondering if there were more.I may linked wrong article. My bad
He's going to leave RU fans in awe no matter when he first takes the field.
It's cool. I didn't take it bad...there were a bunch of articles and I must have copied wrong one. There was actually a good bleacher report one but I didn't want to deal with the bleacher report isn't real posts.Sorry, didn't mean that to sound like "the little lights aren't twinkling, Clark." As with all things, the coaches will make the right call on Oden.

Savage had much better passing stats. That being said, Savage was impressive in camp settings and got recruited because he looked good in tee shirt and shorts.
I wouldn't wish a red shit year on anyone. Our coaches were in contact with him and he was a backup plan if Haskins didn't commit. Kid has a lot of talent but needs to pack some size on his frame before getitng on the field. A red shit year for stength and conditioning would be ideal.
Even with his flaws, he's probably the best QB for this system come August.
You do realize the guys in the NFL right now. Right. So I would say he had the talent as well when he was recruited. His head, well that took a little time to get screwed on straight.Savage had much better passing stats. Jameis Winston also redshirtedI believe J. Manzell red shirted behind Ryan Tannerhill his freshman year
He was actually Savages runningback.Savage 1268 yds 10 TD's 94/181 51%
Oden 750 yds 9 TD's 54/92 59%
Savage had a stud WR that went to OSU. Oden has his brother who is a sophomore
Oden's brother has multiple SEC offers as a sophomore and Corey Brown played rb in high school way more than wr.Savage 1268 yds 10 TD's 94/181 51%

Oden plays if he can throw the ball as consistently as Laviano or Rettig, which does not look to be too high of a bar.
His body weight will play no factor.[/QUOTE]
How can you state this? Based on what? Opinion or do you have some inside information?
whether Ash uses him this fall - or not - will depend on a number of things - many will be beyond the direct comparisons with Laviano & Rettig -
Much will depend on a wholistic view of the state of development of the offense - maybe Oden is clearly individually better - but if the team has not fully climbed to a level where Oden's superiority will produce significantly different results - and if basically similar outcomes will be obtained with a 'serviceable' Laviano or Rettig - and if the success in the coming year is going to depend upon fiercely engaging in scrappy hand-to-hand combat, scavenging for every yard, huffing & puffing to achievements of brutal pure will rather than skill
- Ash may look at a red shirt year - rich in practice, repetition, nourishment and growth - as a better 'big picture / long term' use of Oden .
Pat White decimated Big East defenses but with the same physical stats, it only took one hit to end his NFL career. I can still see the hit. Big Ten defenses look more like NFL than any Big East team. Redshirt.
