Virginia Tech game, Sat., 9/21 - anyone thinking of going?

Was there twice. If you are nice then they will be the best hosts. If you're a drunk ahole then they are like any home team and you deserve anything that happens to you as it's your fault. I've had a great time there both times and had blast.
Totally understand that.

Yup. Wife is from VA and FIL went to VT.
They are a big VT family.

What’s the best way to get tickets?
I’ve never gotten away game tickets through Rutgers.

Already made 'em at Spanky's Backyard Grill and Scotch Emporium in Palymra, VA.

stop. you found a restaurant called Spanky's? that's awesome

On another note, I never gave dinner reservations a second thought. Guess I have some homework to do this weekend!

Interesting take from The Athletic on The Hokies, and some respect!!!

"I wouldn’t rank the Hokies in the preseason top 25 as our Stuart Mandel recently did. They’re coming off a 7-6 season with only two wins against FBS teams that finished with winning records. But I also wouldn’t be afraid to take the over on BetMGM’s 7.5 win total because of what they’ve got coming back.

Rutgers (Sept. 21), at Miami (Sept. 27), Georgia Tech (Oct. 26), at Syracuse (Nov. 2) and Clemson (Nov. 9) are the toughest games on paper to me, and three of them will be played at Lane Stadium."

"The key for the Hokies is how well they stop the run. In six games against FBS winning teams last season, they gave up an average of 5.59 yards per carry (13th among 14 ACC teams) and 202 per game."

anyone have thoughts on tickets? right now, except for the upper corners most everything is over $110/ticket without all the fees.

thinking this *might* be a game I need to get tix through RU to guarantee seats. Apparently it's Military Appreciation Day for the game.

I've still got a sore back from the game there vs. UNC in 2021
Do not get the regular bleacher seats

There's seatbacks on the Tech sideline between the 30's

And chairbacks in the endzone club - club is decent, nothing great compared to ours and other places, but it could be a hot one down there in mid September, so not a bad option

Great atmosphere but Rutgers has had equal craziness during Schiano’s first tour… we will have similar crowds again but you gotta win.

Enter Sandman entrance is legit - make sure you're in your seat for that

There's a great restaurant that's in an old house right on one of the main streets there, I can't remember the name but it was on ACC Network on the tour of Blacksburg - best biscuits and gravy i've ever had

Top of the Stairs (Tots) is a great bar, right on the edge of campus.
Downtown is right there also, pretty good scene as is the tailgating

Memorial for the kids that were killed on campus is pretty chilling

Doing a quick search The only old house that is a restaurant that was on the ACC Network is the Blacksburg Tavern. They're only serving dinner.

I'm going to keep searching though

No, I was referring to where Tyler lives in Palmyra outside of Charlottesville. He has my old tailgate grill down there and a good selection of single malt scotch, hence the name "Spanky's Backyard Grill and Scotch Emporium"

Just got an email from VT (apparently I've somehow signed up for ticket info from them)

this week’s Ticket Tuesday offer, inclusive of a Virginia Tech USA-themed magnet and ticket to the Rutgers game, 540 Zone season tickets and first-year out season tickets are now sold out.

It’s a 7 hour drive.
Take the western route through PA, VA and the Shenandoah Valley…. It’s a nice ride
Route I took back in 2007. I stopped there for gas on my way down while moving from Jersey to Atlanta. It was like 3 in the morning in early March. When I stepped out of my car I felt cold like I had never felt before. Could have been the contrast of going from a heated car to the outside but it was beyond brutal.

That may be the best bet, but I wonder if Roanoke fills up too on game weekends. Beautiful part of the country, but I'm good sticking with home games for now.

Got an email from The Inn at Virginia Tech. They were able to get me RV parking for the weekend. I will now be attending.
Nice. Want to go but have to get my kids HS soccer schedule. The nicer Hotels seem booked . Maybe have to stay a bit away. What’s the best area to stay that’s on the way down but maybe within an hour or so?

Roanoke is about 42 miles north of Blacksburg & should have plenty of hotel rooms available

Back in November I booked us a hotel in Radford, about 20 min outside of Blacksburg.

My biggest concern right now is if I'm driving down from Charlottesville for the game, is there a place I can park and tailgate where it isn't exorbitant?

Yeah, there’s plenty of parking there, when we went down for the Georgia Tech game in 2018 we parked at one of their academic buildings about a mile and a half from the stadium, it was not more than 50 bucks and there was a ton ton of people tailgating

For the UNC game in 2021, we parked right next to the stadium and again, it was not crazy price wise

Check out the secondary sites

A friend of mine is a VT grad so thinking about meeting up with him for the game, but never really sure what’s going to happen tomorrow

Been there once agest ago./. for VTech vs BC Thursday night game before seeing Rutgers unexpectedly stumble at Duke.

Do the Blue Ridge Parkway thing while down there. Beautiful country!

I asked MS-Copilot what to do around September 21 there and it said:

Certainly! 🏈 Around September 21 near Virginia Tech, you’ll find some great activities:

  1. Hiking Adventures:
    • Cascades National Recreation Area: Explore a four-mile trail leading to a stunning 66-foot waterfall in Jefferson National Forest.
    • McAfee Knob: A 4.4-mile hike with panoramic views of the Catawba Valley and surrounding mountains.
    • Appalachian Trail: Virginia boasts 544 miles of the famous trail, accessible from nearby areas.
    • Huckleberry Trail: A 13-mile paved trail connecting Blacksburg and Christiansburg.
  2. Water Activities:
    • Claytor Lake State Park: Ideal for camping, swimming, hiking, and watersports in Dublin.
    • Kayaking & Tubing on the New River: Enjoy the scenic beauty of southwest Virginia.
  3. Arts & Culture:
    • Check out exhibits and performances at the Moss Arts Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
Whether you’re a football fan or an outdoor enthusiast, there’s something for everyone! 🌟

Looks like The Inn at Virginia Tech is about a mile from town. Stadium looks close also.

I emailed my ticket rep to see what they have to offer for the game. If not I’ll probably just get some lower level corner seats.

Away game Tix aren't available yet. My rep said some time this month. I saw someone else say the 9th but I haven't received any emails about that yet

Ok thank you! I just saw this info in the other thread. I’m worried if I don’t lock some down they’re going to increase in cost.

Thru RU they won't, but they may run out depending on how many we are allotted.

I didn't get an email but went to scarletknights.com and ordered them. $64 each, plus a $2 fee per order.

We all know who WON'T be going to this one ("it" doesn't go to any games....): The 200+ Moniker Jabroni!!!! :WooHoo:
