Yes it was... love this kid’s development. Post up game coming along and if he can add a high post jumper to his arsenal, defense have to come out to guard him and he is a good passer to find mates cutting under the basket. He is such a big part of our future success.

It would be huge if he could add that to his arsenal.

It was one shot, taken out of necessity, just before the shot clock expired. Relax.
Post defense needs major improvement. He fouls way too much.
Low post offense needs major improvement. Right now, all I see is an inconsistent jump hook.
We'll talk about a jumper in 2 years.

All true, but he's still the best freshman big man I've seen at RU in a couple of decades! Huge potential if he can keep improving.

If he can make that jumper right now I don’t want him waiting 2 more years to take another one.

Unlike foul shots, he only needs to make 40% of jumpers from that spot to have a positive effect on our offense.

That's not true. 40% on 2s = 0.80 points per possession.
If he becomes a legitimate threat from that spot it would have a positive effect on our offense by pulling a defender out from underneath, even when he spots up from there but doesn’t shoot it. Doesn’t mean he will take those shots exclusively. Opens up the paint a bit for others to score. He can also be an effective passer from that spot.

Also, by that logic, 2-shot fouls are never worthwhile getting, because even if you shoot 80% from the line that’s only 0.80 points per possession.

40% on any 2-pointer is bad, full stop. Rutgers as a team is shooting 45.2% on them and that's 327th in the country.

And your math is wrong or I'm misunderstanding the foul shot thing. Being an 80% free throw shooter means each one-point shot is worth 0.80 points. So a trip to the line for two shots would be worth 1.60... very valuable.

And since you're more likely to be fouled at the rim than shooting a jumper, that's more incentive to not shoot them.

I stand corrected, shooting 80% on FTs would be 1.6 points per possession if every possession resulted in a 2-shot foul.

Still, I stand by my point about the benefits to our offense if our center is a legit threat to make a jumper from the foul line, and I consider 40% a legit threat from that distance, especially for a center.

As a team we do not shoot 45% from that distance anyway — my guess is that without lumping in 2-pointers made at or near the rim our 2-point percentage inside the arc is no more than 40%. Does that mean nobody, not even our guards, should EVER take a 2-pointer from distance?

Case in point: Geo shoots 35% from 2-point range. Should he stop taking those shots? On some of his drives to the rim in traffic he gets the ball swiped or gets called for a charge, so he is not credited with a missed shot attempt. I would argue he’s better off taking a pull-up jumper inside the paint because he’s good at it and he will not be called for a charge or get the ball stripped.

They leave Myles wide open inside the key for 12 footers. Agree with others that I don't want him taking that shot, but hoping at some point he might be a threat at that range.
