SU won 3 bowl games since 2010. That's 1 more than Rutgers. Not bad for a hoops and lax school.I was not aware the Orange still played football. Did they restart their program?

lost to penn st 23-17. Go ahead scoring drive ended with an INT thrown by a first year starter. Lost to USC by 14. USC was ranked #2 in the country. Lost to #8 Notre Dame 31-15. Would have been different if we didnt have 5 turn overs. Those are not blow outsRemember Cuse thought playing in New Jersey was so important that they had that whole series of "home" games at MetLife Stadium, which is about 5-6 hours away from their school. They lost every game badly and failed to sell many tickets and that series was cancelled.
Starving them out is ok with me. See Boston College. It works!
Temple is different since they are only 1 hour away from us, so they are already here if we play them or not. So it actually helps both schools to play each other. It helps us with South Jersey and Philly and it helps them with Central Jersey. Plus it is a quick and easy trip for both fan bases. It's a win-win!
Syracuse and BC, who are in regions with poor cfb recruiting, chose to join a conference with no presence in the recruit rich NJ/eastern PA region. Why on earth should RU throw them a lifeline?According to NJ.com we had a verbal agreement with Syracuse but Flood didn't want to lose to a local team and hurt recruiting.
This is within the last 7 years. If you want to talk prior to that then you have to talk about all the years prior. No need to.Talk about cherry picking stats.
I agree. They were out numbered but look who they played. Teams with richer tradition and more recent success. lol. Again, we won more bowls games then Rutgers within the last 7 years. Who has more dust? Both games Suckexcuse played at the Swamps of the Meadowlands, their fans were heavily outnumbered. I mean heavily.
Plus, I keep receiving discounted/promo ticket offers via email everytime they play at that stadium.
Their football program is dust at this point, no need to ever put them on the schedule.
80% Grob, 20%Schiano. Greg Robinson was the main reason but Schiano contributed too. I think Schiano took advantaged of that. Rutgers replaced SU as a top 4 or 5 team in the Big East during that era. There is a misconception that SU relied on jersey players. This is totally not true. They relied on many states. Schiano made it harder to land a few higher lever jersey players that SU normally got. Like a Johnnie Morant.
Any question about Syracuse's football following in this area was answered when they drew 39,000 to play USC at the same time RU drew 50,000 to play Howard. Both games Suckexcuse played at the Swamps of the Meadowlands, their fans were heavily outnumbered. I mean heavily.

Schiano did what every other coach did to SU during the G Rob era. How can you give him 40%? lol. I really think 20% is giving him too much credit.I'd say it was 60% GRob and 40% Schiano. Schiano didn't have as much success shutting out BC, but there the parochial school factor played a role. When he went 1 on 1 with a previous significant recruiter from OOS without religion coming into play (Syracuse) he created a significant change.

Not ever gonna question the football following. lol. It is what it is. SU has more basketball fans than football fans on the road. Thats tells you what the emphasis is. SU has fair weathered fans for football. Its pretty obvious. If they are not winning like they did in the 90's, they wont get any interest from the fans. NYS just don't care enough about football.Any question about Syracuse's football following in this area was answered when they drew 39,000 to play USC at the same time RU drew 50,000 to play Howard.
Saying Syracuse has a big following amongst NYC sports fans because of how they drew at the BET is like saying "The Hunt" should be a weekly occurrence because it draws so many people for one Sat in October.
Amen to that !Teams we should never, and I mean never play again. BC, Cuse,Uconn,or Pitt.

No your right Pasqualoni was cracking. Thats why he was fired. SU made the wrong hire. Some one with no ties to the program, no ties to East Coast and never was a head coach. It backfired. It got worse and worse as a coach. Even when he went back to being a DC, he was bad. Your right, Leonard boys and the New Rochelle flips hurt a lot but only because of what they did in college. No one predicted them to do what they did. I saw Rice play several times in HS. I thought he would be a average college player. Most SU fans will tell you the biggest thing to happen that started the down fall was not getting Mike Vick. He was pretty much a done deal. Some how he was convinced to stay home. That killed us.I think there were a couple of key events that tend to go overlooked. Pasquiloni's regime was starting to show cracks by the late 90's though they were masked in large by McNabb/Harrison/Freeney. After that group left, there wasn't really anyone close to their level to sustain the level of winning that cuse had achieved from the late 80's-'98. There was a great 10-2 season in '01 but the cracks were fairly evident there (a too close for comfort win over a weak 2-9 Rutgers squad, getting blasted by the top teams in the BE). Pasquiloni also made a HUGE mistake when he stopped recruiting Nate Leonard after he got injured in HS; Nate ended up at Rutgers, and his younger brother Brian never forgot about that. I remember reading an article where it was reported that when the cuse coaches would come to recruit Brian, he would ask them, "why did you stop recruiting my brother?", with the cuse coaches then saying to themselves, "we lost him".
...add in the Pasquiloni firing and subsequent Rice/Greene flip and you get a bit of a 'perfect storm'.
Joe P.
This isn't basketball. Cuse would never have 10,000+ fans at HPSS. 1,000-2,000 maybe.
The Washington series was announced 3/14/14. Don't know how long before it was on the burner. Cuse was going into their 2nd year in the ACC and RU their first in the B1G.

CALLING BS on POLITI HERE
Rutgers was SIGNED to play UCLA in 2016 and 2017 to open the season.....in 2009 by TIm Pernetti (deal started by Bob Mulchay)...
In FACT, RU was supposed to HOST UCLA on Thursday of THIS week (On September 1, 2016) and VISIT UCLA on Sept 2, 2017
The series was moved a couple of years ago at the request of Rutgers to get their OOC games to match the NINE game big ten schedule of the big ten which had RU having FIVE home games on even number years and FOUR home games on odd years
RU found Washington to replace UCLA at that time that flipped the home and away sequence to an away and home sequence to match big ten schedule so that in years we have four conference home games...our power five OOC would be a home game
There is NO WAY we were signing Syracuse to a FOUR GAME series...and playing 11 power five games! We did not have the space in our schedule....and I don't think Kyle, Chris, or any other RU coach wants 11 power five games per year with the Big ten east schedule every year.
It is possible that we did discuss replacing the UCLA for 2016-2017 series with Syracuse....but I am really confident that there has been "influence" by the big ten teams to schedule as many pac-12 ooc games as possible....and the brass at top of the big ten wanted RU to play Washington and not Syracuse (or another unnamed team former big East rival that I heard that was being considered)
I have PLENTY of issues on how Coach Flood did things here...but he certainly did not "opt out" of playing the Cuse out of concern of losing...
Typical Politi back hacking as usual....

Spanky is the most measured person on the board, but when it comes to Syracuse the venom comes out. I love it!We have nothing to gain by giving exposure to Syracuse or BC or Pitt in our stomping ground. Let the rotting, decrepit orange continue to freeze in their frozen tundra of a wasteland up there.
At the risk of being crucified, I kinda like still playing the Eastern teams. I would play Cuse every year with the caveat that every game is played at Met Life. It could be our version of the Worlds Largest Cocktail Party. Would end up being a virtual home game for RU. Ease any scheduling difficulties too.
I can't believe how short sighted and delusional people are on here. Cuse is in the ACC they aren't going anywhere, sorry. Yes their program is down but thats not about us. If they get the right person in that job and spend some money on facilities they will become relevant again. Rivalries are good exposure for everyone. I always see people bitching about, oh this radio talk show said no one cares about RU or why doesn't the local national media have a better perception of us. Well guess what having some actual rivalry games helps with that. You're so worried about them calling themselves NY's team. Who gives a sh!t that's a losers mentality.
And Cuse fans hate Rutgers and Rutgers fans hate Cuse. That's a rivalry folks.
So playing a stronger team with a higher profile is a loser mentality?
Weren't we still in the BE / AAC and Cuse was going to the ACC when this game was scheduled? I think the worry was that with a home and home against Cuse we were putting ourselves in a situation where we were giving Cuse exposure in the NYC market that they had lost by joining the AAC. Also, they would probably fill 25% or more of the seats for the Rutgers home game at Rutgers Stadium. If the Meadowlands bought the game it would probably be 50% Cuse fans.

its a stupid article by a stupid Potato Head up to his old tricks again. Assholes do not change their spots.
Syracuse is a dump and if U want barbecue they have one in Newark. Spending 4 days in Seattle is much cooler.
