Two qb's with game action ready to go. Serves many purposes, including keeping the D planning guessing. Fearing a weapon and having to game plan for it should be where we are.

Had Retting seen time and even if he threw Nova like INT's in those games, I feel pretty confident he would have also made some throws that show him to be a weapon and not just a check down run at the first pressure qb. That would have caused MSU to prepare for that.

And wouldn't it be nice to have a weapon who if hot on a given day could produce a big result...instead of a grind it out we win only if we are better but not really capable of the upset?

Bottom line is we should have had them both ready by now with data to see who gives us the best chance to win. Instead we are upside down in W and L's and have a rusty backup who didn't see time when some of that rust could have come off.

Yes because most top teams do, Oh wait no they don't. They have a QB and stick with him.

4 wins with a competent coach that preaches discipline. We are blowing a huge opportunity in a down year for the conference.

And if they're alleged to be close, THEY usually give both a shot to see how they do "under the lights".

But if there's a clear better one then yes they go with that. The evidence we have does not show a one qb situation at all.

Most of us are fine with Flood using Laviano as his starter, but if you don't see a problem over the last few years with Rutgers inability to get the backup QB's any experience and development time, then you are not paying attention.

Go back and look what Cinncinati's back up QB Hayden Moore did against Memphis(557 yards passing) and what he did against Miami in their big win.

Now go back and look at the games before Memphis and you can clearly see he got some meaningful playing time with passes, not just garbage time handoffs. Please explain to me why FLood and Rutgers can't do this with Rettig, especially since FLood said the competition was even through the first game.

So yes, most teams have a starting QB, but many coaches won't hesitate to try other QB's when not playing well, or give other highly rated QB's a chance to get some meaningful playing time to help their development and get them ready in case they have to play.

This has been a huge problem for Flood and Rutgers.
