Our posters are a bunch of whiny bitches who don't want to give the new coach 2 years in "his" rebuild (he easily deserves four) just because we have sat through decades of various rebuilds.
while others are focused on your 80% comment.... you're really talking BBall IQ. which we've lacked forever. (good news I think Baker has it)That’s what is frustrating. I’m sure I speak for most the basketball posters here. We can all walk to the nearest court and hit 80% from the FT line. We all know where on the court we get our own buckets and what moves we have to get them. We all know how to play help defense without over committing. We all can knock down the open looks in our range at a pretty good clip.
It’s hard to watch the next level (for me; I’m sure some of you played D1 and better) of basketball and see these guys struggle to do the basics you’ve done your entire life.
But it’s ok. There’s an identity. And there are young players on the roster who have a future. And there are talented guys on the way who will fit in this culture and excel.

oh but there is..how long did it take for us to even get AC in the rac? we have been battling a decade (more) of intense failure. fred hill follows by rice (who imploded and all his players could leave at will amid intense scandal)...followed by one of the laziest recruiters in the world who was too good to be seen around nj HS's. Pikiell is trying to show spark early with guys who arent his players, recruit a few who really surprise (baker and eugene), and use that momentum to see a jumpstart in recruiting (working already with guys like shaq and mathis).Missouri went from trash to good in a year, and the #1 recruit isn't even playing for them. There's no reason for a basketball turnaround to take four years even here.
the 4 that play now I don't see it. Pieces of the bench, but nothing more.
It's still JUCO. Don't expect Carter to be better than Freeman. Be skeptical with all JUCOs. They are JUCOs for a reason. If Carter was a can't miss he wouldn't be at RU.

We have a winner for most ludicrous statement on this board today, by a lot. This is a stunningly ridiculous statement to anyone that has either a) watched the games with their own two eyes or b) just glanced at a stat sheet.Williams is better than Baker, by a lot. For the life of me I don't know why Pikiell has him playing 22 minutes and coming off the bench..
I played in HS and a bit in college and you're right. I'm in my fifties now and haven't shot a BB in over a year. Yet I could shoot at least 6-10 from the FT line cold. When I played I always shot at least 8-10 from the charity stripe and that was in the pressure of a game. For our kids to shoot 50% against Hartford and 42% against Stony Brook is beyond unacceptable. It's bad enough that we're a bad shooting team, but there is NO EXCUSE to shoot so poorly from the FT line. None. That’s what is frustrating. I’m sure I speak for most the basketball posters here. Mathis as a bench piece, LOL. Pass what you are smoking please.
We'll certainly find out soon enough. I love Freeman but he hasn't learned a damn thing under the basket when he plays against taller competition, which is practically always. He thinks he can muscle them or out maneuver them and gets stuffed. I thought he learned his lesson last year, and started taking more 8 foot jump shots. But I was wrong and that's why he misses so many chippies under the basket. He refuses to understand his limitations against taller opponents when he has a great 8-12 foot jump shot. It's still JUCO. Don't expect Carter to be better than Freeman. Be skeptical with all JUCOs. They are JUCOs for a reason. If Carter was a can't miss he wouldn't be at RU.

We now know what Baker's great deficiency is in your eyes since you also went out of your way to say that Sanders (who you have bashed endlessly), Freeman, and Williams are the top 3 players on the team. He was recruited by the present coach.
Shack you hit on the proverbial big "if" regarding 20 wins. What we are all seeing is potential, but we don't have good enough players that when one of them who can shoot from the outside suddenly goes cold can someone else can pick up the slack? Corey and Freeman need to elevate their games from now on. Those two have been inconsistent. I penciled in 18 possible wins. Now, who knows. We may be lucky to get 15 which means we fail once again to have a winning season. I hope I'm wrong. But these last two head scratching losses against inferior opponents really has me concerned going into B1G play.Greene and Higgins
The answer lies somewhere in between
Truth is ....and you are talking to the guy who predicted a 10 seed for this season....it requires the seniors (and Corey ) to get seniorits ...and make their damn shots
Truth is....it isn’t happening.
The guys Eddie left ...plus a couple of guys that transferred (Laurent, foreman)
all had skills but truly had one common denomonator...could not shoot at a high percentage
This team right now is a 20 win team if it could drain its shots. We get good enough looks...we just don’t make them
Baker and doucoure shoe that ability. They both are getting minutes on a rebuild that they would not be getting on an established program but it doesn’t mean they won’t be good
Let’s not damn the future. It’s not certain but the pieces we are adding next year are another step in the right direction.
Freeman isn't awful, but he still hasn't learned his lesson under the basket. When he players taller and longer opponents, he still thinks he can muscle or out maneuver them under the basket and is constantly getting stuffed. He has a very good pull up jumper between 8-12 feet. He needs to do that more, but I'm afraid he doesn't do that enough and that's why he misses so many chippies under the basket because he thinks he's 6'11' when he's barely 6'7'.Carter certainly won't be worse than Freeman. Freeman is awful.
Humor us though. Back up your statement. What are the things that you think Mike does better than Geo in your words "BY A LOT"?We agree to disagree.
Baker is one of the top freshmen in the big ten. Williams is a guy. With the impact he is making, we will be happy when we have mathis instead of williams. I bet you were one of the guys who cried about nigel leaving even though baker has already been a massive upgrade over him.We agree to disagree.

Go:
- Free Throw Shooting not enough data
- Two Point Shooting Geo better mid range
- Three Point Shooting not sure, Mike can get more shots off but not as accurate
- Finishing wash
- Playmaking / Passing Geo
- Ball Handling Geo
- Rebounding (Defense) Mike
- Rebounding (Offense) Mike
- Shot Blocking Geo
- On Ball Defending Mike
- Perimeter Defending Mike
- Help Defending Mike
- Pressure/Clutch Playing not enough data
- Intangibles of your choice Mike

Its like you watch another team out there.
The question was not whether they should both be on the floor at crunch time, presumably at the expense of someone else like Thiam, you said Williams was better than Baker by A LOT. So you think Williams is a much better defender than the much bigger Baker by so much that it offsets any superior offensive skill Baker possesses. Frankly, I'm tired of tiny guards trying to defend Big Ten perimeter players and Williams is not a superior defensive player. You are on island on this one and I think even you realize there is no backing up that hot take.bottom line is they are different players. I am biased towards defensive oriented players. When we win almost always Mike is in the middle of it. i think he has intangilbles. there is no doubt that Geo is more skilled. They both should be on the floor in crunch time.

I don't know, maybe because Doucoure and Baker are true freshmen, Thiam a sophomore while Freeman is in his 5th year of college, Williams his 4th, and Sanders his 3rd? You've already written off Doucoure apparently and your denigrating of Baker is just downright bizarre. Thiam has not carried his weight so far but I would expect Kiss to steal a lot of his minutes next year if doesn't take a big step forward before next October so he's not my biggest concern. Not sure why people cant judge Ducoure, thaim, Baker with the same lens as sanders, Freeman or Williams.
I haven't completely written him off, but i haven't been impressed. If he were bigger and more athletic I'd feel better about a high ceiling.
I like Baker a lot, but I like him with a lot of improvement or as my 1st guard coming off the bench. On this team he has to play 30 minutes even though i don't think he is ready for it.
as for Thaim....we all knew what he needed to fix in the offseason and he didn't.
He also plays on, arguably, the least talented team. Everything is relative. He does lead all freshman in the Big Ten in both scoring and assists as of yesterday afternoon.
Baker is better than Williams, I'm certainly not going to argue that. He will not take the next step, however, until he fixes his outside shot. 32% from the perimeter isn't going to cut it.I don't know, maybe because Doucoure and Baker are true freshmen, Thiam a sophomore while Freeman is in his 5th year of college, Williams his 4th, and Sanders his 3rd? I was at a basketball event right after the Pikeoh but there is..how long did it take for us to even get AC in the rac? we have been battling a decade (more) of intense failure. fred hill follows by rice (who imploded and all his players could leave at will amid intense scandal)...followed by one of the laziest recruiters in the world who was too good to be seen around nj HS's. It is a slow build plan meant to breed success..that doesnt take less than four years. The only way that happens is if literally everything goes right. Obviously, after these two losses, there are expected bumps along the way while you transition the guys from the previous staff who couldnt shoot with guys who can create points like mathis, harper, kiss, shaq, baker AND while some of your gambles dont work out (souf, bullock) as you recruit over them as quickly as possible.
