...if you still care, lol...

After a glorious week of gorgeous weather all over the Northeast (and down OC NJ where we'll be all week), the weather for Saturday's game at PSU is very reminiscent of last week at this time looking ahead to WSU. In both cases, the "official" forecast looked to be warm and dry, but the forecast discussions mentioned the uncertainty around low pressure and potential showers 6-7 days out.

So, right now the official forecast is calling for warm and dry conditions for Saturday day and evening, with daytime highs around 80F and temps dropping through the 70s and into the low 60s by the end of the game (normal high/low is 71/52 at that time). However, it being 6-7 days out, uncertainty is always high and here is what the forecast discussion says, noting that there are precip chances:

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
AFTER THAT...RIDGING BUILDS OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY
AND THE CENTER OF THE SURFACE HIGH SHIFTS NORTH...BRINGING
CONTINUED DRY CONDITIONS AND WARMING TEMPERATURES. BY MIDWEEK
HIGHS WILL CLIMB ABOVE SEASONAL NORMALS.

THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF DRY WEATHER SHOULD LAST THROUGH THE END OF
THE WORK WEEK...BEFORE A SHORTWAVE APPROACHES FROM THE GREAT LAKES
AND BRINGS THE NEXT CHANCE FOR RAIN TO CENTRAL PA NEXT WEEKEND.

Not much interest in the weather, lol - is there some other RU news afoot? Anyway, no change in the forecast out of State College. Still looks to be warmer than normal and dry next Saturday. The State College discussion no longer mentions any possible showers associated with a "cold" front next weekend, but the Mt. Holly discussion still mentions a low chance of possible showers next weekend, as does the Sterling, VA office discussion (for areas due south of State College in MD/VA). So, confidence is pretty high in a rain free event, but not 100% yet, until modeling comes into better agreement on that front.

I noticed this morning even before the Caroo news that there were several offers for PSU tickets on the ticket board.

Numbers - thanks......I'm going to the PSU game albeit very disheartened......

Just our luck. As feared, the State College forecast now mentions scattered showers (30% chance) for Saturday evening. A 7+ day period of dry weather and the only 3-6 hour window with showers is Saturday night. Effing figures.

GIVEN THE WEST TO SW FLOW ALOFT...HARD TO SEE MUCH IN THE WAY OF
A COLD FRONT ANYTIME SOON. PERHAPS A WEAK WIND SHIFT LINE LATE
SATURDAY INTO EARLY SUNDAY WITH JUST A FEW HOUR TIME PERIOD
CONTAINING SCATTERED SHOWERS.

I'll bring an extra shirt and a box of ziplock bags so we can put our phones in them.

Looking ahead to Ohio State,Accu-Weather is listing a low of 35 overnight,a little too cool for October.

Well given the state of our secondary, heavy showers may not be a bad thing.

You almost gave me a heart attack. With all the tsouris going on I thought your title was "Whether RU @ PSU".

MO:grimace:

I care about the weather but I will STILL be on my houseboat...watching on my flatscreen 1/mile offshore........I can yell...scream..whatever and NO one will hear me!!!!!

I am NOT disheartened at all

PSU is ONE team that has far WORSE scandals and problems than we have

THIS is the time for players, coaches and fans to circle the wagons

Not much change. Offiicial forecast is for warmer than normal (highs around 80F vs. 71F, typically) and dry conditions for Saturday during the day and evening, with temps dipping into the 60s during the game, but the discussion continues to mention the chance for a few showers in the evening. May have to wait another day or two to know for sure.

Weather .com has 0% chance of rain from now until Monday in state college, except Saturday night at 10pm-2am, thunderstorms. I forgot, since when did we schedule West Virginia every week?

Very little change, except more clarity on the timing of everything. Tailgates should be warm and dry with high temps in the low 80s and partly cloudy conditions. Clouds will increase late in the afternoon and there is a slight chance (20-30%) of a very light shower or two (<0.1" of rain, which is nuisance level rain - that's the equivalent of <1" of snow and the forecast graphic, below is showing even less rain, i.e., <0.02" of rain). Temps will be near 70F for kickoff and drop into the low 60s by midnight.

Should be a great day for football and odds are greater for a dry day than a day with a light shower or two. I'm not even bringing a poncho, although for all you sensitive lady-types, like T2K, a poncho may be in order. There is a very small chance of an isolated thundershower (impossible to predict where/when they'll hit, but <10% chance of one hitting any particular location - of course, if one hits during the game, I'm sure I'll hear about it, lol). Enjoy the game...

Well, what would RU vs. PSU be without a few showers. Looking a bit more pessimistic now, as a solid line of showers is propagating along the cold front sweeping through PA. The line is just into western PA at this time with showers along a line from Clarion SW to Pittsburgh. The line is expected to dissipate somewhat before reaching PSU around 9 pm, but it's likely to hold together enough to deliver 0.1-0.2" of rain, slightly more than a nuisance to some. Here's the latest discussion from the NWS in State College from 15 minutes ago, below. Sadly, my plans changed at the last minute and I wasn't able to drive out for the game. Comfortably in the recliner and ready to toss the remote and other objects within reach at the TV. Really wish I were there...

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
SOLID LINE OF SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS NOW
COVERING AND CROSSING THE NORTHWEST MOUNTAINS. EASTWARD
PROPOGATION OF LINE TIMES IT INTO THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND STATE
COLLEGE AREA BETWEEN 830 AND 900 PM. INSTABILITY WILL BE SLOWLY
WANING...BUT EXPECTED MEASURABLE RAIN TO CROSS THE WEST
CENTRAL...CENTRAL MTNS AND LAUREL HIGHLANDS IN THE MID TO LATE
EVENING HOURS. MOST AREAS WILL SEE BETWEEN ONE AND TWO TENTHS OF
AN INCH OF RAINFALL FROM THE ENDLESS MOUNTAINS SSW THROUGH THE
CENTRAL MTNS AND LAUREL HIGHLANDS.
ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH
WILL BE CONFINED TO THE NORTHWEST MOUNTAINS AND FAR NORTHERN TIER
OF PA. PRECIPITATION SHIELD SHOULD BEGIN TO DISSIPATE BEFORE
MIDNIGHT AS LOSS OF INSTABILITY COMBINED WITH DOWNSLOPING AND
SHEARING OF FRONTAL MOISTURE ALL COMBINE TO PREVENT MUCH IN THE
WAY OF SHOWER ACTIVITY FROM REACHING EASTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN
AREAS.

And the rain started around 9:04 pm and the line of showers is weakening, so hopefully not too much rain for too long...
