Welcome home Ahmir

Great news.. Let's get a few more back. I feel sorry for Winbush at Notre Dame. He could start for most D1 schools and is stuck at third string . He may never get the chance.

Great stuff! Welcome home Ahmir!

Not the most shocking comment here:

"Throughout my entire recruitment, Rutgers was always within the top three," he said. "For a while they were leading. It basically came down to the staff. And now that they have a better staff at Rutgers,..."

Ahmir said: "And now that they have a better staff at Rutgers, that's what made me basically want to come back home along with everything going on back at home with my family and stuff like that."
:grimace::smiley:

Trying to be serious here--what is Coach Ash and his staff doing different than what Flood and his staff did ?
Welcome back to The State of Rutgers and your Scarlet Knights !!!

They have changed the culture at Rutgers. The previous staff seemed to be going through the motions. They were not fully prepared to compete at the level needed to be in the B1G. Maybe part of it was that they were just not qualified to run the program at this level or perhaps they were not ready, but regardless things are much different now.

The article indicated he would be able to see the field in 2017 which is great. Can you practice with the team in 2016 like a redshirt freshman?

He needs to be the best scout team guy he could be for this year and then just unleash the beast in 2017.

Welcome to the banks! I hope everything works out for you and your family.

Mitchell is leaving Ann Arbor on good terms with a Michigan program, which has supported him up to this point.

Hence, Mitchell received a full release last week, allowing him to be pursued even by other Big Ten teams.

"It's most definitely been positive," he said. "Everybody here at the University of Michigan is top-notch. It's a great program, but it just seems like with everything going on back home and things like that, the best thing for me to do was to go home and be with my family. So that's what it all came down to. But the relationship here with the coaches and my former teammates here at Michigan, it's all great, all positive."

After receiving the release, a number of schools displayed immediate interest.

Maryland was the program working the hardest to land Mitchell. However, Mitchell's support system believed it is in his best interest to attend a program close to home where he'll be nurtured, and has family close by.

Although Temple was initially in the mix, interaction slowed. Meanwhile, interaction with Rutgers had only intensified.

Apparently, the Rutgers staff carefully vetted Mitchell and feels his potential outweighs any risk of adding him to the roster.

Michigan was willing to allow Mitchell to pay his way through the fall, and have a chance to rejoin the team next spring, but Mitchell opted to seek a fresh start.

Mitchell is still in Ann Arbor but will be home Saturday in preparation for Monday — move-in day at Rutgers.

Good luck to Mr. Mitchell. This is a good opportunity to attack the books and get a head start academically.

You don't have to look very hard. How many CFB championships has Flood been part of? How many years of D1 coaching (at any coaching position) did Flood have prior to coming to RU?

I'm not trying to knock Flood and I don't hate him like many here do. But there's really no comparison in terms of experience. The one thing Flood had that Ash didn't have at the time Flood was fired, was head-coaching experience. But then neither did Flood when he first took over the job from Schiano.

What is another Caroo thing?

I assume he means a guy with major character issues. Being suspended for missing curfew. Getting arrested and suspended for 2 games for beating up a women (even though he apparently didn't).

You know ... stuff like that. I hate when that happens.

If that's what was meant, then all I can say is:

Actually, what he meant was that many people on this forum would misspell Carroo as Caroo. Now Ahmir is being spelled as Amir.

About 2 years ago to the day , I went to watch the Cedar Creek- Cedar Grove game, which took place about 3 blocks from my house. A tiny public Group 1 vs a medium public Group 2. Usually not much talent in a game like that. It was a great game, lots of action, big plays .

Fast Forward 2 years, and the resulting talent in that Group 1 vs Group 2 game turns out to be 5 Divison 1 players :

Cedar Creek's Bo Melton, Owen Bowles, Amir Mitchell

Cedar Grove's Evidence Njoku (Miami), and QB Nick Zecchino, who wound up with a schollie to UConn as a LONG SNAPPER, LOL ! PS- As a former Center and Long Snapper I watched his first game last night on my laptop pretty closely when UConn struggled to beat Maine, however this kid was superb as a true freshman long snapper. Every snap PERFECT Location w terrific velocity, and he hustled down field after the snap as well. PPS- his dad was a long snapper for Tennessee. I tried to get first EJ Barthel interested in this kid, and then Coach Okruch, but with Alan Lucy already on the squad with a schollie, they were only interested in him as a walk on, so he wound up at UConn w a schollie (oh yeah, Bob Diaco is from Cedar Grove too, lol, )

PPPS- Bo Melton was easily the star of the game. Zecchino actually had a good game as .....QB, Linebacker AND Long Snapper !! Njoku had a KO return TD and long pass TD. Mitchell was kind of quiet, and Bowles was banged up.

Wouldn't get my hopes up. Most transfers for us don't work out. If he was B1G caliber, Michigan wouldn't have parted with him especially not to strengthen it's competition (Rutgers).
