Flying an Isis flag would kind of seal the deal on terrorist
I agree. My post you quoted was from just when this news broke hours ago. I don’t know who knew what and when (you don’t either) and I’m willing to give our intelligence & law enforcement communities more than a few hours to collect all information and decide what to release to the public.

Thankfully they postponed the game. Why did the FBI say it wasn’t terrorism if he had an ISIS flag? Is it ok to call him a radical Islamic terrorist?
In a statement from the FBI:
>The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism. We are aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject.<

Saw that but originally they said it was not a terror attack. I'm glad they updated. Sadly the last few years people have been saying that we may face more terrorist attacks and they were called conspiracy theorists. I wish the FBI would focus more on these radical Islamists instead of moms at high school board meetings. Praying for all involved in this.

Some outlets, the usual suspects, calling it a “truck attack”.

Time to ban cars.
It is a truck attack by a domestic terrorist and reported that way to differentiate it from a terrorist bomb going off.
Some ( usual suspects) media sources tried to imply the scumbage came across the boarder is what I gathered what was being reported
But in my opinion, we look at what's being reported according to our political POV and the media might just be handing out what they heard at the time, not how we feel they are reporting, and waiting for verification from the authorities investing what happened of what's being claimed then updating that into their report.

Billion dollar lawsuit

If you take down a safety barrier you better put up the replacement the same day.

Do remove all the windows in your house , wait a month and then put in new windows ?

OR

Do you take out the window and put the new one on the same day

Maybe it’s my mind going from binge watching Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton , this terrible but someone always sues and this case will be fast and easy

The FBI doesn't rush to judge when they are investing attacks like this, and update the info they release about it when they start finding out more during the investigation.
That's better than needlessly accusing before knowing the pertinent facts of the case.
In the beginning of investigation they didn't really know if it was just a nutjob or a terrorist and if they claimed terrorist and it was found out different they would have been deemed incompetent.
With all the problems the FBI seemed to be facing over the years, being cautious with what they said in the beginning of this investigation is understandable.
One word wrong is reported in a second and many times the retraction comes too late for it to change what people think ,even if it comes a minute later

Ok, when people think "terrorists attack"..they think Osama bin laden international terrorists. They are saying they found an IED but aren't sure if it was a viable explosive. Despite numerous people in this thread saying he was flying an isis flag that hasn't been confirmed either. Any type of mass killing like this is an act of terror but the way the word has evolved over the years it has come to mean something else. If this is just some crazy loser wannabe from upper middle class America that wanted to rebel they don't want to insert unnecessary fear. But anonymous trolls with cartoons as profile pictures on twitter thrive on fear and emotional engagement on their Twitter posts. Take a step back and look at the situation logically..

let’s not worry about offending the terrorists by calling them what they are ….TERRORISTS!!! stop the madness we have seen the last few years.

Seems like the thinking is it might not be a lone wolf. To cancel The Sugar Bowl for 24 hours is a smart move by the FBI and NCAA. Let's be honest, many of the FBI problems were self induced, they need to get this right, the world is looking.

You're making a good point about potential lawsuits and based on this they would have merit:
>A 2017 report commissioned by the city noted that the French Quarter "is often densely packed with pedestrians and represents an area where a mass casualty incident could occur."
The reported said the "area also presents a risk and target area for terrorism that the FBI has identified as a concern that the City must address."<

They knew at that moment he had an Isis flag. It was on his truck. Likely why the mayor said it was terrorist

This is one of the first things that Kush Patel has to change with eradicating the stench culture of the FBI.

I watched the initial press conference at about 8-9am or thereabouts and both the mayor and police commissioner said it was terrorism.

Then the FBI lady said it was not terrorism. She had all the facts at that time.

No need to mislead the public at that time.

Probably. But I’m still willing to allow for some time before what is definitively released to the public. And I’d say that regardless of what party sits in the Oval Office.

Yep. She could have just said we aren’t sure at this time

I can't for the life of me understand how an FBI spokesperson could definitively say "not terrorism" before even a cursory investigation and then end uo being wrong and embarrassing the agency. How does that happen when "we're not ruling out anything yet" is so easy to say.

They have gotten used to lying to the American people in recent years and can't help themselves anymore.

Sorry but a person gets into a truck and drives through a barricade into a crowd, then gets out of the truck with a gun and starts shooting at the police, oh and on top of it has what looks like and explosive in the car and we need time to figure out if this is a terrorist attack? I don’t care what nationality, ethnicity, sex, religion or any other category you want to add - it’s a terrorist attack. That guy had one intention and that was to kill.

You do actually because we've seen plenty of random nuts engaging in high profile public killing sprees, sadly.

Are mass school shootings deemed as terrorist attacks? The Vegas hotel shooting?

These are all horrific events. I wouldn't spend too much energy worrying what is/isn't referred to as a terror attack.

they usually use garbagey
Random nutjob school shooter type is also still a possibility.

I was in Times Square last night and while they don't let cars get within two blocks of the gathering area for the all drop, the barriers themselves seemed relatively "soft."
usually they use garbage trucks to block entrances. barriers used for humans

Look, I get it and I understand the rush to label this. But think about what law enforcement has to do before saying the “T” word. Assess the initial damage, respond to emergency needs of the dead/wounded, collaborate with local authorities, determine whether other accomplices may or may not still be at large. And a million other things I probably can’t even think of.

I’m fine with immediately saying a maniacal ahole committed a crime. But given our history since 9/11, I’m not saying “terrorism” until I’m damn sure it does NOTHING to make the situation worse.

One thing I keep wondering about is if this attack was moved up on a moment's notice, I mean I know the streets of NOLA are crowded all night on New Year's but I would imagine much more so at midnight. Why wait until 3am when there is less of a crowd unless their plans was the Sugar Bowl, plus they had bombs they never used.

Anyone who believes anything coming from a government agency is truly ignorant. We've been lied to much more than people know or would ever imagine. This fbi response proves how comfortable they are at lying. There is zero accountability so why not?

How exactly would telling the truth about the known evidence cause more damage?
