What about Greg Marshall from Wichita State?

His team is always in the tournament and they are GOOD!
He is a home run ! Unfortunately we had a chance in the mid 2000's when he was at Winthrop. We missed once again. Jay Wright, Jon Belein, Gregg Marshall. Any of those 3 would have changed our fortunes forever.

I was about to say he was on the list back when we hired Waters IIRC. BTW an example of why I don't dismiss out of hand lower level names, good coaches come from that level. Those days have passed and we have as much chance of hiring the other Gregg (Popovich) as we do this one.

That Roy Williams can really coach too.
Actually he cannot coach. Has the best talent every year and gets beat ! He never calls timeouts when the other teams go on runs, his man to man defense has never been great. Most of my Unc people I know pray they win despite Roy!

Marshall has turned down offers every year from big 5 programs in better shape than RU. This one as 0 chance of happening.

As my earlier post mentioned, we had our chance when he was at Winthrop and blew it. We all know he is not coming here now!!!

Pretty sure that the $3.3 million is just the school's portion of his financial package. Alabama couldn't lure him away from Charles Koch Arena with $4.9 million/year.

Wichita State has the multibillionaire Koch brothers behind them. They have the money to fend off any school wanting to hire their coach. Alabama tried but failed. No way he would consider Rutgers.

Thanks for the answers
Had no idea why is has remained at a "mid major" for so long
That salary explains it.

NEXT!!

Francessa is good friends with him. He would call it a travesty in college BB.

Correct the shockers have big time donors not excuse ridden nickel and dimers like we have here. Here we hope and wait for the big time donor who will save is all. $$ has held us back it's why we always shop In the clearance isle for every coach instead of ponying up and going after the big fish. We live in one of the wealthiest states in America our grads make good to great money yet we have what we have. It's truly pathetic that we are in this predicament.

I remember Jim Carty pushing for "the Winthrop coach" for a couple of seasons on the boards. I don't know if he had sources saying that Marshall wanted to come to Rutgers or if he just saw how good that he was early on his his career and was simply tossing the name out there. Anyone still in touch with Jim? And if so, is Jim still really shiny?

Jim still posts on the Grease Truck. He moved out of state many years ago and is no longer in the sports journalism business. But he still follows college sports and still has contacts in the business (both in journalism and athletic departments). So his posts are worth reading.

I remember when Jim left and became the original #NJ2AA before hashtags were simply number signs.
