What percent of RU football fans are also Basketball fans?

I have season tickets for both but had football much longer.

Follow all Rutgers sports but season ticket holder for men's basketball and football. Favorite sport is basketball.

Football season tickets (10) since 1982 (although I attended games regularly starting in 1976), mens' basketball since 1978, and women's basketball since 1990. I also attend nearly all women's soccer games, a few men's soccer games, softball and baseball games, and occasional other sports but I watch nearly all of them on BTNplus since I am retired. Also sponsor scholarships for football, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's soccer and women's lacrosse.

Midway thru the 3rd quarter of the Michigan game I said I felt like I was taken hostage by Rutgers Football. There were better games to watch, but I am tied to a chair stuck watching Rutgers implode.

But once its over, I could flip channels and watch Bama go down again. Then I could re-focus on a few positives from the 1st half of our game. Hope springs eternal. You think Bama fans get to experience that? Its a curse.. and a blessing.

Good post. I think of you as a great basketball fan . You know a lot about the team and I enjoy your input and back and forth (especially since I am always right lol). You were in San Diego last year for Notre dame games . Do you live there or just went there hoping we would advance ?
Good post but not good enough to read the whole thing apparently 🤣

I live in San Diego. Been out here for 5 and a half years now. I was going to go to the tournament regardless but bought tickets and the outfit ahead of time and just said F it I'll wear it anyway it'll be funny. Got mostly positive responses though. A few jerks but mostly people respecting how good of a program we are building and what a great game ND was... ended up buying tickets to the second session and the next day too.... where I wore it again 🤣🤣

Both sports since mid 70’s

When playing big time teams in either sport I always feel like we are big underdogs

With football it winds up being true, with basketball I am continually surprised by our team and how we are right there with those teams

Just thinking it's gotta suck to be a football fan but not a bball fan. Awesome first half at least, but ends in a disaster as usual against any good teams. Can't wait for basketball to start. So much more winning. So much more fun.

Curious how much crossover there is from the football fans?
Its alot harder and takes alot longer to rebuild and get competitive vs top 10 teams in football than bball. Need alot more patience in football than bball, not just at RU but universally.

two totally different sports. Im a bball fan but mainly just to pass time til football

Have had football season tickets since 1994. Really got into basketball since Pike got to town. Went to games throughout the 2000s but god were the fred hill/mike rice/ jordan years just brutal. A few bright spots here and there.

All in on bball now to and with moving back to NJ will (hopefully) be able to get my hands on season tix at some point.

Except in the portal era where many teams turn it around quickly i.e. Kansas

Still think the rebuild is headed in the right direction but the pre portal timelines are not always the case anymore. It can be done quicker. It has been done quicker. It's just not happening quicker here

There are a million threads on that topic though and this is the bball board

Well done. Ok yea I think I would put two and two together know if I see the walking truffula tree coming down the concourse.

Also more on the original question.
I am a fan of both...also a bit of a lucky bastard (maybe that's why). I went to my first game at the RAC on a lark freshmen year. Just so happened that was the game we beat Melo with Lamizana's bank 3. My experience as a student culminated with the Louisville win (took a partial super senior semester). So I was lucky enough to experience some memorable basketball games and the rise of the football program (was actually a trainer for the team junior year).

I was a season ticket holder for football as a young alumni but stopped in about 2010. 1st season as a season ticket holder for b ball (after convincing the boss). Someone mentioned bandwagon fans. With all due respect to the die-hards here. Seriously hats off to you...I think there are a lot of folks who go through cycles of engagement and dormancy. Personally I've gone through periods where I tune out because when I'm tuned in...I'm typically all-in. And I can't take the miserable ass-beatings (i.e. Ash years). There are just so many other things in life. I personally don't want to spend too much of that time watching a helpless/hopeless team and getting upset about it.

Yes, but your OP explicitly talked about football lol. Portal isn't the end all be all. Look at MSU. They're a disaster now. They got lucky one year with the portal. The portal isn't how you build a football program imo, it's where you fill some holes. The problem is, Schiano didn't just have holes in the boat, he literally didn't even have a boat to begin with. The program was literally buried.

Me and my buddy who is actually in that pic next to me on TV were freshman for the Herve 3 game against Melo and tried to storm the court but no one followed us and security pushed us back 🤣

The Ash years and Jordan years were both similar in the level of embarrassment and lack of any real hope. Those regimes lose fans bc people tune out. It's only natural. Pike has the fans back and there are signs of hope for football

I am a diehard Rutgers football fan …but it takes a backseat to Rutgers basketball

I was a kid fan when we were the Beast of the East in the late 70s, in College when Wenzel made Rutgers basketball matter again

The RAC is my second living room .

i can taste getting back to that level that we were at in the 70s ….we are damn close and I think .the class of 2024 ….that I think we can and will sign , will get us there

So was Kansas. The Rutgers of the Big 12

The OP wasn't about the details and timeline of the football rebuild. It was about the current state where football still can't beat anyone good. Forget good we didnt even win a single home B1G for yearsss.... meanwhile basketball has been a tournament team 3 years in a row, upset the #1 seed last year, set a record for most consecutive wins against ranked opponents for an unranked team etc etc

It's just way more enjoyable right now to be a basketball fan bc it is further along in an extremely successful rebuild.

Those who are football only fans are missing out. That's the point

Kansas schedule and ours are two totally different ball games. And Leipold is a better coach than Schiano. Schiano is the right man for RU though, it's a unique job.

Schiano was better than Pike in years 1 and 2, pike will be better years 3-5 imo. Can't really compare bball to football though. Two totally different sports. You hit on 2 kids in bball and your program is changed. You need to hit on like 30 kids in football AND then wait for them to get older to change the program. Football is a sport of men physically imposing their will on one another, bball can be a finesse game played by boys/freshman.

Not fair to really judge Schiano/Pike until year 5 imo. But to your point, bball can be made competitive and more entertaining to watch alot quicker than football. Football is still brutal due to the offense/lack thereof, which ironically is kindve the case with our bball team too but one big shot after a defensive stop makes the arena erupt. But again, two totally different sports. You get a score every minute or so in bball, every quarter or so in football

The comparison I'm making is in terms of the current level of enjoyment of football and basketball. You're the one making it about the rebuilds

It's more enjoyable currently to be a bball fan and it's not even close... hence me feeling bad for football only RU fans who are missing out on the enjoyment the bball season brings

I agree definitely more enjoyable to be a bball fan haha. Football requires a lot of patience for a massive rebuild, patience not many have.
