What the real issue is with Rettig not playing

My issue with Laviano against PSU is he throws to the sidelines too much when in trouble or when no one is open. He should try running a few yards first. 2 and less than 10 is better than 2 and 10.

I'm sure Rettig is reading Tom Savage's Amazon book "How I Became an NFL Backup QB By Playing For Three FBS Schools (and You Can Too!)"

Not without first reading Joe Flacco's Amazon book "How I Became a Super Bowl winning NFL QB by Transferring to an FCS School (and you can too!)"

Rettig was screwed after he started the season against Norkfolk. He lost a year for 1 half.

Although laviano had his moments, I think it would have been prudent to give Rettig a chance since we were going nowhere anyway. He made some things happen in the first game and showed some good moves.
It kills me how most college head coaches treat college football like it was the NFL. I think both guys have some good attributes. But when things aren't working, change it up.

Especially when you have trouble throwing the ball 10 yards...

I love how in that article it says Laviano is leading the Big Ten in completion percentage. I could too if every pass I threw was less than 10 yards!!!

Laviano has got to go. Rettig is the way to go:

1. Laviano doesn't look to stretch the field against BCS opposition (likely afraid to rip it); plays like friggin Alex Smith, with more turnovers.
2. Makes bone-head errors (see Wash St game)
3. Seemingly throws off his back foot constantly (maybe he just has a weird motion
4. Rettig's got a hose
5. Rettig isn't afraid to make a throw beyond 8 yards
6. Rettig has been exemplary and doesn't miss curfew-- need to look to these guys in a time like this
7. Who will make a better pro prospect? How do the pro's develop QBs? They go for the guy with the BIG ARM. Laviano isn't making any damn pro roster ever. Pro roster = higher profile program = better recruits.
8. LSU schedule > Rutgers; California HSFB > Long Island HSFB

Play Rettig.

He had already redshirted, he did not lose anything by playing against NSU. He came into the season with 3 to play 3.
So if transferred prior to the season he would have 2 seasons at the new school. If he transferred now he'd have only 1 season.

Unless Laviano is injured, my prediction is that Rettig never sees the field. Flood seems to be stuck on it, unlike Urban Meyer who has no problem pulling his starter. Given the fact that both of them were so close in camp its beyond me how he didn't play at the start of the 2nd half. I think Flood is so afraid of having the QB feel he is playing for his job and playing tight because of it.

For guys who have seen both Laviano and Ryan Hart throw. Who has the stronger arm?
Hart, by far. And, more importantly Hart was more accurate with intermediate passes.
"Hart played in just 38 games (10 less than Teel) in his four years at Rutgers, amassed 8,482 yards passing and threw for 52 touchdowns. He finished with a QB rating of 124.5 and averaged 223.2 yards passing per game."

Flood talks about open competitions at every position, but QB is not one of them apparently.

I am not sure what you have to do to get pulled at QB @ Rutgers under Flood. There is giving guys enough room to grow and there is meathead thought process allowing guys to continue to run into a brick wall. We see a lot of the latter with Flood and QB's and Flood and the running game.

"Flood talks about open competitions at every position, but QB is not one of them apparently."

Very true. And very telling about his ability as a head coach imo. Even Top 25 teams aren't afraid of switching their QB to get a spark in a game if the starter isn't playing well, but Flood never does that at all.

I am not happy being told something and not seeing evidence that it actually happened. (e.g. QB competition)
